Background
Hannibal is a surgeon outside the game. As a Flesh Artisan, he dissected Void creatures to study their pheromones, then devised a “Trojan Horse” infiltration tactic that concealed players inside insect shells. The exploit helped establish his place in the Imperial Dynasty Guild’s Artisan Group 61 62 90.
He later worked increasingly closely with Bone Artisan Bi Ren Liang Mou on biological vehicles. Though Hannibal remained an Imperial Dynasty captain for a time, he spent so much time with Liang Mou’s group that he was treated as Flesh Ascension’s honorary vice president. He is subsequently identified as the guild’s leader 180 232.
Appearance
Hannibal is depicted with a muscular upper body; his appearance can change when he uses flesh-manipulation abilities 351 238.
- He can reshape his hands into a periscope bearing eyes on his palms 235.
- During construct repairs, living tendrils can emerge from his palms to stitch organs into place 355.
Personality
Hannibal is exuberant, confrontational, and willing to test dangerous creations in combat. He treats failed expeditions as engineering data and judges unstable machinery by whether it still works. His arguments with Liang Mou often pit his preference for power and grotesque designs against Liang Mou’s concern for structure and safety 145 234 241.
His ambitions also extend beyond his own inventions. He rallies other artisans to build the Flesh-Reaching-Heaven Tower, accepts that transport constructs need newly grown organs before his combat mechas do, and is visibly moved when the reclaimed Nest City comes back to life 332 333 334.
Abilities & Skills
Flesh Assimilation
Hannibal can suppress and alter living material, including a piece of Tier Four behemoth flesh. Absorbing a small portion temporarily increases his physical strength and gives him Shadow Psionic Energy 238.
- Relaxes a construct’s muscles and tendons to release trapped cargo 257.
- Tames severed enemy tissue for use in battlefield creations 331.
- High-tier material can corrode his body, and assimilation consumes substantial energy 238.
War Creation Incubation and Remnant Reuse
His Humus Creator abilities turn remains into combat resources 238.
- War Creation Incubation: Builds Flesh Giants from Flame Demon corpses; he also assembles a three-headed, six-armed creation to restrain a Lord-rank enemy 320.
- Remnant Reuse: Animates severed Flame Demon flesh to hold living enemies in place 318.
- Can transfer usable muscle from damaged creations into a surviving one, repairing and strengthening it during battle 320.
Living Tissue Cultivation
Hannibal grows and integrates muscles, organs, and cultivated tissue into constructs 329 344.
- Develops cultivation tissue that helps new muscles and organ embryos connect inside damaged constructs 344.
- At Tier Three, his own flesh begins coordinating repairs and movements autonomously while remaining under his conscious control 344.
- His living creations still depend on sound skeletal frameworks, making Liang Mou’s bone expertise essential 238 240.
Biological Engineering and Piloting
Hannibal designs biological vehicles and pilots Fruit Mechas on the front line 90 211 329.
- Helps build airships, the Bone Leviathan, and battlefield-assembled mechas from salvaged biological parts 90 102 211.
- Develops the Skeleton Leviathan’s scent-guided living wetware for automated corpse collection. It can learn specific routes and responses, but cannot reliably distinguish all player possessions from salvage 257 258.
- After a Somatosensory Ganglion is installed in a Fruit Mecha, he can feel impacts and control its hand precisely through the neural link 329 330.
Equipment & Creations
- Bone/Skeleton Leviathan — a jointly developed, repeatedly rebuilt transport and war construct; later adapted for automated salvage 102 234 257.
- Fruit Mechas — biological combat machines Hannibal builds and pilots, including a temporary model assembled behind the battle line from bones and corpses 211 329.
- Hepa Alchemy Compendium — his handwritten copy of knowledge from the Hepa ruins; its Great Library emblem attracts the attention of Hepa alchemist Yi’er 354 355.
- Patrol Carrier — a six-kilometer living vessel developed by the craftsmen to move constructs, cultivation facilities, and wounded units with the front line 342.
Relationships
- Bi Ren Liang Mou / Old Liang — long-standing engineering partner whose adaptive skeletons complement Hannibal’s regenerative flesh. They argue frequently but build and fight together 180 240 331 344.
- Yi’er — Hepa alchemist who examines Hannibal’s compendium and later helps repair his war beasts after seeing their responsive living tissue 354 355.
- Bricklayer Gets Rich — reluctant test subject after the automated Skeleton Leviathan mistakenly collects his corpse; the incident exposes limits in Hannibal’s wetware 257 258.
Story Role
- Hanging City: Survives the Bone Leviathan’s expedition to the Gallbladder and helps establish defenses and material-gathering methods for the new stronghold 103 106 107.
- Flesh Ascension’s expansion: Leads artisan-built battlefield defenses and mechas, then unlocks Humus Creator and begins turning previously unusable high-tier remains into living equipment 142 211 238 239.
- Nest City campaign: Helps defeat the parasite defenders, establishes construct production in the reclaimed city, and organizes artisans to build a larger living transport-and-workshop complex 330 331 332 333.
- Tier Three expedition: Applies his bodily advancement to construct repair and sets up cultivation facilities directly inside an enemy nest so damaged units can return to combat 344 345.
