Inside the core cabin of the yacht.
The two women listened to the commotion outside, looking at each other in dismay.
Outside, there was a barrage of gunfire, followed by the roar of weapons, and finally, a series of explosions. As the power supply was destroyed, the room plunged into darkness, with only the dim emergency lights providing a faint glow.
However, despite the chaos outside, no one came to check on them, leaving them completely unable to understand what was happening.
"Could it be that the rescue has arrived?" Chu Xiaoxiao asked, feeling a glimmer of hope.
Nothing could be worse than the situation they had just been in, so this at least suggested a turn of events.
Ye Min tilted her head to listen for a while, confirming that it had become completely quiet outside and that even the voices of the mercenaries had vanished. Only then did she say to Chu Xiaoxiao, "It's still not certain. Stay here and don't move; I'll go out and check the situation."
"Bang!" Just then, a large foot kicked in, completely shattering the hole that had been teetering on the edge of collapse.
Ye Min was startled, fearing that a mercenary was about to break in, and immediately pointed her pistol at the opening.
"Don't be nervous, it's me, Nie Yun! Xiaoxiao, are you okay?"
"Nie Yun!?" Chu Xiaoxiao could hardly believe what she was hearing, yet it was undeniably his voice.
Ye Min also widened her eyes in disbelief. That kid from earlier? How was he here?
"Nie Yun, I'm here, I'm fine!" Chu Xiaoxiao finally reacted and shouted with joy.
Shortly after, a head poked through the hole, and Nie Yun grinned at the two women. "Hi, beauties, we meet again!"
The two women froze, exchanged a glance, and their faces suddenly flushed.
"Uh, what's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
Nie Yun crawled in and asked, looking at their strange expressions.
"N-nothing! By the way, how are you here? And what about those bad guys outside?"
"Oh, my brother and I were nearby grabbing a late-night snack when we happened to notice your ship being attacked. So, I asked my friend for help, and those mercenaries have all been taken care of by my friend!"
A late-night snack? Chu Xiaoxiao was already used to Nie Yun's tall tales and couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"Your friend?"
"Yeah, didn't I tell you? I have a friend, the one who builds aircraft carriers! He has wide connections and many friends, so he brought over a warship. The Marines on board were incredibly fierce—they wiped out those mercenaries in no time. But since they were technically AWOL to help me out, make sure not to tell anyone about this. If anyone asks, just say it was a pirate skirmish."
What? Your friend called in a warship and Marines?
Both women wore expressions that clearly said, Do you take us for fools?
However, once they stepped out of the cabin and saw the smoke-filled, battlefield-like ruins outside, they were stunned to realize that it might actually be true.
The yacht was covered in bullet holes and burning fires; it would have been impossible to cause such damage without a large-scale armed conflict.
Compared to Chu Xiaoxiao, the more professional Ye Min could spot even more issues.
First was the shelling—there were many, but strangely, the power was low. The destructive force was weaker than any modern artillery shell she had ever heard of; it was almost as if they had just thrown hand grenades, yet she had clearly heard the sound of cannons.
Then there were the injuries on the mercenaries. Aside from that Feng Ge, not a single person had been killed by gunfire; everyone had perished due to explosions similar to close-range grenades.
In a narrow, close-quarters battle, this was simply inconceivable!
A unit that only fought with hand grenades? Were they professional grenadiers? Did such a branch of service even exist in the world? That was too absurd!
"Where is that unit?" Ye Min asked, staring at Nie Yun after inspecting the battlefield.
"Oh, they had to rush back to their jurisdiction, so they left! You know how it is—if they get caught being AWOL, they'll face disciplinary action!" Nie Yun said casually.
He then turned to Chu Xiaoxiao and handed her the box he was holding. "Here, it's a good thing I happened to come back and run into this. I just picked it up off the ground. Don't lose it again this time!"
Chu Xiaoxiao took it blankly, wondering how the box had ended up outside.
Nie Yun thought for a moment, then took off the silver-white bracelet from his wrist and handed it over as well.
Chu Xiaoxiao took it, confused. "What is this?"
"I've noticed you've been unlucky lately, always getting kidnapped. This is an heirloom from my ancestors; it can ward off evil!"
Chu Xiaoxiao: "..."
Ye Min: "..."
Although she really wanted to punch this guy, for some reason, Chu Xiaoxiao took the bracelet without a word, lowering her head as she pondered something.
"Remember to wear it at all times, it's very effective!" Nie Yun added, only feeling at ease once Chu Xiaoxiao nodded with a slightly flushed face.
This incident served as a reminder to Nie Yun. By keeping this Mechanical Insect bracelet on Chu Xiaoxiao, he would be able to know if she was in danger the moment it happened.
Once Ye Min used her phone to contact the police and the Chu Group, Nie Yun drove off in his battered little fishing boat.
As for the Sea Wolf, it was far too shocking to be seen, so it had already moved ahead to wait for Nie Yun to avoid being spotted by the two women.
"Your friend is truly mysterious. He can just call in a military unit whenever he wants? Could he be some kind of elite second-generation?" Ye Min asked Chu Xiaoxiao as she watched the tattered fishing boat depart.
"I don't think so, he's very ordinary." For some reason, Chu Xiaoxiao subconsciously didn't want others to know too much about Nie Yun; this felt like a secret that belonged only to her.
"Ordinary?" Ye Min rolled her eyes.
"By the way, didn't you say that whoever could defeat all the bad guys and rescue you from danger would win your hand in marriage? It seems the candidate for the son-in-law of the Chu Group has already been decided, right? This is big news, hee hee!" Ye Min suddenly thought of something and giggled.
When Chu Xiaoxiao heard this, her face instantly flushed with shyness, and she couldn't help but retort, "Sister Ye, you said that too!"
"Fine by me! I wouldn't mind two women serving one husband! But are you willing to share?" Ye Min was thick-skinned; there was no way a simple young girl like Chu Xiaoxiao could tease her.
"You!" Chu Xiaoxiao was instantly rendered speechless. She wanted to say she was willing, but the words just wouldn't come out.
"Hee hee..."
"Hee hee..." Chu Xiaoxiao couldn't help but laugh as well.
Across the sea, the crisp laughter of the two women rang out.
Not long after, this stretch of sea was cordoned off by several patrol boats. As the investigation into the case unfolded, it gradually triggered a series of ripples—but of course, that is a story for another time!
