Background / History

Mori grew up in Shuiyu Village with his younger sister, Shiraishi Rin, and their grandfather while his fisherman parents, Shiraishi Ao and Yanagishima Keiko, were absent. He was protective of Rin and resentful of the Sakamoto Trading Company, which was connected to his parents' disappearance and the village's exploitation 19 20.

When Simu and Hidan visited the family home, Mori witnessed his grandfather submit to them out of fear. Simu deliberately left behind a Jashin Cult necklace; Mori used it and a makeshift black robe to impersonate a cultist and infiltrate Sakamoto's cruise ship in search of his parents 20 22.

Sakamoto captured Mori and imprisoned him. After learning that Ao and Keiko would be used in Kagune experiments and forced into a public death match, Mori was left powerless behind bars. Simu admitted that the necklace had been bait, then offered Mori a Kagune out of curiosity over how his courage and emotions would affect the transformation 25 26 27.

Mori consumed the Kagune, became a Ghoul, and broke into the arena to rescue his parents. He fought alongside them against Sakamoto's forces, but Keiko died shielding him from Abu and Ao was killed by Abu's substitution-and-explosive-tag tactic. Their deaths drove Mori to abandon his humanity in pursuit of strength and revenge 27 28 30.

After absorbing Ao's Kagune, Mori brutalized Abu and defeated Sakamoto's ninja squad. He was initially overpowered by Sakamoto's larger, multi-Kagune monster form, but survived Simu's intervention, consumed Sakamoto's arm Kagune, and decapitated him 31 32 33 34.

Mori rushed back to Shuiyu Village after learning something had happened there, only to witness a Yugakure ninja murder his grandfather. His rage triggered an insect-dragon transformation that killed the attacking ninja force and devastated much of the village. Rin's presence eventually brought him back to himself, though he collapsed unconscious afterward 35 36 43.

Five days later, Mori awakened to find the surviving villagers and escaped Ghouls using Sakamoto's cruise ship as a base. Acknowledging the people harmed during his rampage, he severed his own arm as punishment, forbade infighting, and declared his intention to unite the survivors and retaliate against Yugakure 43 44.

Appearance

Mori was originally a thin, dark-skinned boy with black hair. After surviving his battle with Sakamoto, he emerged gaunt and fair-skinned, with snow-white hair and unnaturally altered eyes 25 35.

• In Ghoul mode, his eyes darken and bloodshot veins spread outward from them 35 43.

Personality

Before gaining power, Mori was protective, brave, and deeply devoted to his family. He hid Rin when Hidan entered their home, challenged threats against his parents despite being powerless, and risked infiltrating Sakamoto's ship alone to find them 19 22 25.

The deaths of his parents and grandfather left him consumed by vengeance. During the Sakamoto incident, his desire for strength became so intense that he willingly discarded his human identity and devoured additional Kagune. Unlike Sakamoto, however, Mori retained dominance over his own mind and identity despite his monstrous transformations 30 31 33.

After his rampage, Mori becomes calmer and more deliberate. He accepts responsibility for collateral harm, shows restraint toward Yasho rather than killing him, and uses both authority and self-sacrifice to unite the Ghouls against a common enemy 43 44.

After becoming a Ghoul, Mori fights to free his parents, loses both of them to Abu, and embraces monstrous power to avenge them. His absorption of multiple Kagune culminates in Sakamoto's death 28 30 31 34.
