Background / History

Mori grew up in Shuiyu Village with his younger sister, Shiraishi Rin, and their grandfather while his fisherman parents, Shiraishi Ao and Yanagishima Keiko, were absent. He was protective of Rin and resentful of the Sakamoto Trading Company, which was connected to his parents' disappearance and the village's exploitation 19 20.

When Simu and Hidan visited the family home, Mori witnessed his grandfather submit to them out of fear. Simu deliberately left behind a Jashin Cult necklace; Mori used it and a makeshift black robe to impersonate a cultist and infiltrate Sakamoto's cruise ship in search of his parents 20 22.

Sakamoto captured Mori and imprisoned him. After learning that Ao and Keiko would be used in Kagune experiments and forced into a public death match, Mori was left powerless behind bars. Simu admitted that the necklace had been bait, then offered Mori a Kagune out of curiosity over how his courage and emotions would affect the transformation 25 26 27.

Mori consumed the Kagune, became a Ghoul, and broke into the arena to rescue his parents. He fought alongside them against Sakamoto's forces, but Keiko died shielding him from Abu and Ao was killed by Abu's substitution-and-explosive-tag tactic. Their deaths drove Mori to abandon his humanity in pursuit of strength and revenge 27 28 30.

After absorbing Ao's Kagune, Mori brutalized Abu and defeated Sakamoto's ninja squad. He was initially overpowered by Sakamoto's larger, multi-Kagune monster form, but survived Simu's intervention, consumed Sakamoto's arm Kagune, and decapitated him 31 32 33 34.

Mori rushed back to Shuiyu Village after learning something had happened there, only to witness a Yugakure ninja murder his grandfather. His rage triggered an insect-dragon transformation that killed the attacking ninja force and devastated much of the village. Rin's presence eventually brought him back to himself, though he collapsed unconscious afterward 35 36 43.

Five days later, Mori awakened to find the surviving villagers and escaped Ghouls using Sakamoto's cruise ship as a base. Acknowledging the people harmed during his rampage, he severed his own arm as punishment, forbade infighting, and declared his intention to unite the survivors and retaliate against Yugakure 43 44.

Over the following three months, Mori led the survivors through repeated Yugakure attacks. Though their numbers fell from nearly two hundred to fewer than one hundred, his RC Cells developed enough regenerative capacity to replace his lost limb with a Koukaku arm. As the movement expanded again, he organized more than two hundred Ghouls under the title of the Chosen People, using Jashin worship, executions of corrupt nobles, and ritual displays to seek legitimacy, survival, and protection from the Jashin Cult 55 57.

With Mr. Crow's guidance, Mori refined his Kagune control while waging war against Yugakure. He eventually led hundreds of Ghouls to the village, launching a nighttime assault from atop the Evil-Faced Ghost Snake and personally slaughtering Yugakure defenders 74 79 80.

Mori defeated two Yugakure Jonin by regenerating and adapting his Kagune in battle, consuming one opponent's flesh, blood, and Chakra to fuel further RC Cell growth. However, the arrival of Konoha reinforcements and the accumulated strain of the campaign pushed him into another catastrophic loss of control. He attacked civilians, Ghouls, Konoha shinobi, and nobles indiscriminately until Kakashi decapitated him with Lightning Cutter 81 84 85.

Mori's apparent death became the catalyst for a Jashin ritual when a Raven emerged from his body and activated a mass genjutsu through his blood and the Jashin symbol. Simu subsequently sealed the Apostle of Fear inside the surviving Mori and had Ravens carry him away. Later memories recovered from his followers state that Mori ultimately died after the Ghoul army was routed at Yugakure with Konoha's assistance 85 92 318.

Appearance

Mori was originally a thin, dark-skinned boy with black hair. After surviving his battle with Sakamoto, he emerged gaunt and fair-skinned, with snow-white hair and unnaturally altered eyes 25 35.

Personality

Before gaining power, Mori was protective, brave, and deeply devoted to his family. He hid Rin when Hidan entered their home, challenged threats against his parents despite being powerless, and risked infiltrating Sakamoto's ship alone to find them 19 22 25.

The deaths of his parents and grandfather left him consumed by vengeance. During the Sakamoto incident, his desire for strength became so intense that he willingly discarded his human identity and devoured additional Kagune. Unlike Sakamoto, however, Mori retained dominance over his own mind and identity despite his monstrous transformations 30 31 33.

After his rampage, Mori becomes calmer and more deliberate. He accepts responsibility for collateral harm, shows restraint toward Yasho rather than killing him, and uses both authority and self-sacrifice to unite the Ghouls against a common enemy 43 44.

As leader of the Chosen People, Mori became pragmatic and willing to employ Jashin ideology, ritual executions, and fear as tools for his people's survival. His desire for revenge also expanded beyond Yugakure: he wanted nobles, merchants, and ninja villages to suffer the pain they had imposed on ordinary people, and sought to overturn the world's oppressive order 57 79.

Despite this growing political purpose, Mori remained vulnerable to extreme emotional collapse. When confronted by Konoha's intervention at Yugakure, he abandoned restraint, released all limits on his Kagune, and attacked allies and civilians as indiscriminately as enemies 84.

After defeating Yugakure Jonin, Mori is driven into a final indiscriminate berserk transformation by Konoha's arrival and his hatred of the world's order. Kakashi decapitates him, but Simu later seals the Apostle of Fear into the surviving Mori. Subsequent accounts nevertheless identify Mori as having died in the defeat of the Ghoul forces at Yugakure 81 84 85 92 318.
