Background

Itachi is Fugaku Uchiha’s eldest son, an ANBU shinobi, and one of Konoha’s most celebrated young geniuses, praised as the “second Kakashi.” 155 163 The Third Hokage personally appoints him as Arima’s protector, while Kakashi recommends him as a patient sparring partner and teacher. 175

Before the Uchiha coup, Itachi serves as a double agent: the clan expects him to use his ANBU post to investigate Konoha’s leadership, while the village assigns him to monitor the Uchiha. 218 He repeatedly argues that the clan must avoid violent policing and rebellion, fearing that a coup would destroy both the Uchiha and Konoha. 181
