Background / History

The Gate of Death is the eighth and final gate of the Eight Inner Gates, a system that removes the body's self-imposed limits on Chakra. Might Guy describes it as a state that demands both the resolve to die and a body capable of enduring its power; without those foundations, the user cannot wield its full strength. 141 148

Ezio sought the Eight Inner Gates because he wanted to experience genuine danger despite possessing immortality and numerous means of survival. After sparring with Guy and studying the system, he reached six opened gates, tested the Seventh Gate, and recognized that his physique still required further strengthening before he could properly access the final gate. 141 148 155

He eventually opened the Gate of Death during his battle with Might Guy, pairing it with Sage Mode, Magic Energy, and his other powers. This first documented activation produced the technique Burning Universe Ash, a supernova-like attack. 164

Complete Chakra Limiter Removal

The Gate of Death removes the body's restrictions on Chakra by fully connecting its meridians.

Eighth Gate of Death: Burning Universe Ash

Ezio's exclusive Eighth Gate technique condenses the gate's power into a supernova-like blow.

• It creates an unstable black sphere at Ezio's fist that behaves as an artificial miniature black hole, drawing in matter and energy before releasing destructive force. 165 175

Exceptional Survival

The Gate of Death is ordinarily fatal, but Ezio possesses means that mitigate its consequences.

• Yang Release can seal the Eighth Gate and temporarily control the resulting bodily damage, allowing Ezio to recover rather than die from the activation. 166
• He can also voluntarily close the gate after a limited period, as demonstrated during his battle with Amatsu. 174
• These safeguards do not restore the vitality burned to fuel the state; Yang Release can heal surface injuries but cannot replenish that spent life force. 175
