Background / History
Harry enters the wizarding world with almost no practical magical experience, having been unable to practice at his aunt and uncle's home. On the Hogwarts Express, he meets Ezio Auditore, who helps him with his trunk and begins teaching him basic spellcasting. Harry is uncomfortable with being universally recognized as the boy associated with Voldemort's defeat. 10 11
He is sorted into Slytherin by choice. The Sorting Hat sees courage, goodness, talent, and a strong desire to achieve his goals, but Harry decisively chooses Slytherin as the house that may help him pursue greatness. 16
Harry gradually learns more about his parents, including James Potter's achievements and Severus Snape's history with his mother. Encounters involving Voldemort repeatedly force him to confront the circumstances of his parents' deaths and the lingering magical protection left by his mother's love. 14 23 80

He is compassionate even toward people connected to hostile families. After Draco's confrontation with Ezio, Harry pities him and distinguishes Draco's own responsibility from that of his family. 13
Harry grows increasingly analytical and proactive. He deduces that Hagrid is protecting access to the trapdoor, speculates about Dumbledore's use of the Philosopher's Stone, and volunteers to investigate the Heir of Slytherin alongside Ezio. 51 53 80
