Background / History

Early life and Cloudfall Mountain Range

Yuan Ruoyu was once a core disciple of the Jade Pool Holy Land who entered the Cloudfall Mountain Range to compete for the Saintess position. During that period, she was severely injured by a demonic beast’s claws and poisoned by cave gas. Lin Feng treated her injuries and hunted demonic beasts to sustain them while she recovered. 2 7 8

Her time with Lin Feng in the cave became one of her most cherished memories. When she was forced to leave, she revealed both her true name and her status as a Saintess from the Central Province, then made Lin Feng promise to find her. 2 9 15

Holy Venerable of Jade Pool

By the time the Immortal Great Emperor’s diary was exposed, Yuan Ruoyu had become Jade Pool’s Holy Venerable, a ruler whose commands carried the force of law within the Sacred Land. Though usually remote and authoritative before her elders, the diary’s personal accounts repeatedly embarrassed her and brought back memories of Lin Feng. 2 9 46

The diary gradually revealed that “Ruoyu” was the former Jade Pool Saintess. Once cultivators identified her as Yuan Ruoyu, she chose not to deny her bond with Lin Feng and openly accepted being recognized as his dao companion. 53

Refusal of the Immortal Court

The Immortal Court issued a special decree ordering Yuan Ruoyu to ascend immediately. The offer was conditional: she was to help locate everything connected to the Immortal Great Emperor and track Lin Feng down. Yuan Ruoyu rejected the demand, crushed the Ascension Jade Talisman, and challenged the envoy rather than submit. 19 21

The masked envoy proved to be Xiang Qingwan, a long-lost former Jade Pool Holy Venerable and Yuan Ruoyu’s ancestor. Their shared lotus-based cultivation technique confirmed their common lineage. Xiang Qingwan ultimately warned Yuan Ruoyu not to ascend, leading Yuan Ruoyu to uncover evidence that the Immortal Realm had intervened in mortal affairs for at least 300,000 years. 21 22

Conflict and preparation

Suspecting greater threats behind the attempts to trace her and Lin Feng, Yuan Ruoyu entered seclusion, delegated Jade Pool’s affairs to Great Elder Cang Yuan, and ordered the elders and peak masters to reinforce the defensive formations. 14

She later convened Jade Pool’s leadership to prepare for war against the Heterodox Beings threat and was willing to make her connection to Lin Feng public in order to support him. 43 During wider conflicts, she coordinated with allied forces and prioritized delaying enemies long enough for Lin Feng’s plans to proceed. 64 233

Later reunions

After decades apart, Yuan Ruoyu reunited with Lin Feng in the Central Province after receiving his letter. They traveled through Floating Cloud City and the Floating Cloud Mountain Range together, where she publicly warned potential enemies that they could seek revenge at Jade Pool Holy Land. 46 53

Lin Feng later visited Jade Pool directly, and Yuan Ruoyu received him despite the Holy Land’s heightened security. They discussed the altered nature of ascension, the Immortal Mansion Ruins, and the possibility that a power greater than the Immortal Court had erased part of history. 105 106 107

Lin Feng gave her Chaos Spirit Milk to heal the Dao Injury she sustained after burning her Dao Domain. Yuan Ruoyu responded by affirming that she would stand beside him despite the dangers ahead. 107
