Background / History
Hogg was the lord of Wushan Town and the patriarch of the declining Baruch Family. The Zi'ao Family's superior governance and economic development made him envious, while their support later improved Wushan Town and restored his household's standard of living. He remained deeply committed to reviving the Baruch Family and its Dragonblood Warrior legacy 8 33.
Because insufficient bloodline concentration prevented the family from practicing the Dragonblood Secret Manual, Hogg supported Lei Lin's bloodline research. He sent the family's Dragonblood Secret Manual, Dragonblood Needles, and accumulated research insights to Lei Lin, hoping the research could restore the family's ability to awaken 15.
Hogg volunteered to participate in Lei Lin's experiments partly to bear risks that might otherwise fall on his son, Lin Lei. Repeated potions strengthened his physique and stirred a response within his dormant bloodline, convincing him that awakening was possible 30 33 34.
Appearance
Hogg's ordinary appearance is not described in detail. His Dragonblood Warrior transformation is marked by a drastic physical change.
- Covered in silver dragon scales after awakening 35.
- Has a single dragon head in his transformed state 35.
- Received facial wounds while preparing to conceal his identity during his clash with Gilmore; most later healed, leaving faint scars 36.
Personality
Hogg is driven by family duty and a long-standing obsession with restoring the Baruch Family. He is moved by the prospect that his sons may reclaim the Dragonblood Warrior inheritance, and he willingly shares guarded family knowledge to advance Lei Lin's research 15 33.
His devotion to his family coexists with intense hatred toward those responsible for Lina's abduction. Once he identifies Duke Paterson as an enemy, he infiltrates the duke's residence despite the danger and is prepared to die rather than abandon his revenge 35 36.
After Lei Lin explains that reckless vengeance could bring ruin upon Lin Lei, Warton, and Wushan Town, Hogg chooses restraint. He accepts exile and cultivation as the safer path toward eventual revenge 37 38.
Abilities & Skills
Dragonblood Warrior Transformation
Hogg's Azure Dragon bloodline was fully awakened through Lei Lin's Dragonblood Awakening Pill.
- Transforms into a silver-scaled Dragonblood Warrior 35.
- Possesses ninth-rank warrior combat power while transformed despite only having seventh-rank base strength 34 37.
- Slaughtered Duke Paterson's guards, incapacitated Paterson, and escaped with him after awakening 35.
- Was still overwhelmed by ninth-rank Cardinal Gilmore, demonstrating the limits of his newly awakened power 35 36.
Physical Combat and Infiltration
Before awakening, Hogg possessed a powerful physique but no battle aura.
- Reached peak seventh-rank physical strength through repeated potion testing 34.
- Used the absence of battle aura to infiltrate Duke Paterson's residence with reduced risk of detection 35.
- Disguised himself as a servant and moved across rooftops and walls during the infiltration 35.
Equipment / Items
- Dragonblood Secret Manual — ancestral Baruch Family battle-qi manual, usable only by those with the Dragonblood Warrior bloodline 15.
- Dragonblood Needles — family tools supplied to Lei Lin for bloodline research 15.
- Zi'ao token — a gold-inlaid jade tablet engraved with “Order” and “Zi'ao”; concealed the Dragonblood Awakening Pill, activated its magic arrays, and allowed Lei Lin to track Hogg's location 34.
- Dragonblood Awakening Pill — pill made primarily from Saint Realm Silver Dragon blood; safely awakened Hogg's bloodline when consumed 34 35.
Relationships
- Lin Lei — elder son. Hogg trusted him with the Baruch Family's research materials and sought to protect him from the risks of experimentation and the consequences of revenge 15 30 37.
- Warton — younger son. Hogg concealed Warton's sufficiently concentrated Dragonblood lineage from Lei Lin until Warton had grown older 30.
- Lina — wife. Her abduction and presumed death became the source of Hogg's enduring hatred and pursuit of revenge 36 46.
- Lei Lin — bloodline researcher, rescuer, and adviser. Lei Lin helped awaken Hogg, saved him from Gilmore, arranged his escape, and convinced him to prioritize cultivation over immediate revenge 30 34 36 38.
- Hillman — trusted subordinate in Wushan Town who helped manage affairs during Hogg's absence and participated in concealing his survival 34 46.
- Duke Paterson — enemy whom Hogg blamed for Lina's fate. Hogg infiltrated his residence, captured him, and later interrogated and killed him 35 37.
- King Clyde — ultimate target of Hogg's revenge after Paterson revealed that he had acted on Clyde's orders 37 46.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dragonblood Research
Hogg supports Lei Lin's effort to solve the Baruch Family's bloodline problem, providing ancestral materials and becoming a test subject himself. His cooperation contributes to Lei Lin's eventual discovery of a method to awaken insufficiently concentrated Dragonblood lineages 15 30 33.
Revenge Against Paterson
Unable to let go of Lina's fate, Hogg investigates Duke Paterson and infiltrates his residence. He activates the awakening pill when discovered, transforms into a Dragonblood Warrior, eliminates the guards in his way, and abducts Paterson 34 35.
Clash With Gilmore
Hogg encounters Cardinal Gilmore while fleeing with Paterson. Gilmore's ninth-rank magic overwhelms him until Lei Lin intervenes and kills the Cardinal. Hogg survives, retains his awakened bloodline, and learns that Paterson acted under Clyde's orders 35 37.
Staged Death and Exile
Recognizing that Gilmore's death will bring investigation from the Radiant Church, Hogg accepts Lei Lin's plan to “die” publicly and leave the Fenlai Kingdom. Lei Lin arranges his route and supplies a substitute corpse for a false funeral in Wushan Town 38 44 46.
Trivia
- Hogg's public death was attributed to wounds from a level-seven Money Leopard, but the corpse displayed at the funeral was a bloodline-made substitute created by Lei Lin 44 46.
- Lei Lin initially intended the Awakening Pill to provide only a temporary burst of power, but Hogg's bloodline awakened completely instead of leaving him permanently weakened 34 36.
