Background / History
Jia Yanyong is Jia Yanming's younger brother and has practiced martial arts since childhood. He joined the Flying Rainbow Gang, where his physical strength and experience in violent conflicts made him a capable hand. Steward Wu suspects that Jia Yanming may previously have used Jia Yanyong for intimidation or other dirty work while securing the steward position at Yixiang Tea House 9.
At Jia Yanming's request, Jia Yanyong agrees to intimidate and beat Lin Zheyu for refusing Yixiang Tea House's recruitment offer. He delays the matter after returning injured from another fight, but remains willing to act for his brother despite the risks to himself 9 11.
Appearance
Jia Yanyong is a towering, heavily built young man whose body bears the marks of repeated gang fighting.
- Approximately 1.9 meters tall 9
- Burly frame with bulging muscles
- Numerous scars across his body, including scars from serious past fights 9 25
- Fierce, rugged facial features; his appearance is compared to a malevolent spirit when enraged 21
- Initially appears in a tank top that exposes his scars and muscular build 9
Personality
Jia Yanyong is blunt, impulsive, and highly confrontational. He prefers solving problems with fists rather than planning, and is easily provoked into fighting even when the situation is unfavorable 20 43. His recklessness is a recurring concern among his companions, who compare his fighting habits to those that got the stronger Zhou Jiang killed 43.
Despite his brutality, Jia Yanyong is straightforward rather than scheming. He does not fabricate accusations against Lin Zheyu after being defeated, accepts a fair loss, and considers loyalty to sworn brothers more important than his own safety. This honesty is specifically why Xu Jingwu values and cultivates him 22 25 26.
Abilities & Skills
Black Fiend Fist
Jia Yanyong practices the Black Fiend Fist, a fierce fist art built around overwhelming force.
- His punches are powerful enough that a grazing blow can injure an opponent, while a direct hit can be fatal 25.
- He can trade head-on blows with Lin Zheyu during their duel, leaving both fighters' arms numb and their bones aching 25.
- He shatters a stool with a single punch while fighting Xing Jinglong 35.
- His offense is wide, direct, and forceful, but frequently exposes openings to a more technical opponent 25.
Bone Forging Physique
Jia Yanyong has reached the early Bone Forging Realm and possesses formidable raw strength for a Flying Rainbow Gang member 25.
- His large build gives him a slight strength advantage over Lin Zheyu during their first direct exchange 25.
- He is regarded alongside Xie Jiang and Lin Zheyu as one of the gang's more capable martial artists 28.
- His strength is inferior to Xing Jinglong's, whose family resources placed him at roughly the middle or late Bone Forging stage 36.
- He lacks refined combat awareness, relying too heavily on brute force and relentless offense 25 36.
Relationships
- Jia Yanming — Older brother. Jia Yanyong agrees to teach Lin Zheyu a lesson at Jia Yanming's request and emphasizes blood-family loyalty despite Jia Yanming's cynical view of gang brotherhood 9 11.
- Xu Jingwu — Leader of the Flying Rainbow Gang. Xu values Jia Yanyong's honesty and straightforward character despite his lack of tact and promotes him within the gang 22.
- Lin Zheyu — Initially sent to threaten and assault him, then defeated twice by him. Jia Yanyong accepts the result of their formal duel and later becomes his companion within the Flying Rainbow Gang 21 25 26.
- Xie Jiang — Fellow Flying Rainbow Gang martial artist and frequent sparring partner in arguments. They regularly provoke and threaten to fight each other, but continue spending time together afterward 36 50.
- Ning Hui — Fellow gang member who joins Jia Yanyong, Lin Zheyu, and Xie Jiang in discussions at Bidan Tea House 43 49.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Conflict with Lin Zheyu
Jia Yanyong first targets Lin Zheyu at Jia Yanming's direction. When ordered to invite Lin to tell stories for Xu Jingwu without offering payment, he threatens him by invoking the Flying Rainbow Gang's control of the streets 20.
He attacks Lin Zheyu shortly afterward, but Lin uses prepared chili powder to blind him temporarily before knocking him down with Bull Fist. Jia's eyes are badly swollen, though medical treatment saves his vision 21 22.
Duel and Reconciliation
Xu Jingwu gives Jia Yanyong a chance to recover his lost face by arranging a formal duel with Lin Zheyu. Jia enters the fight confidently, believing his early Bone Forging cultivation, Black Fiend Fist, and larger physique will prevail 24 25.
Lin defeats him through Golden Goose Technique footwork, stronger combat awareness, and Bull Fist. Jia accepts the defeat rather than holding a grudge, declaring that he will challenge Lin again after his eye heals. Lin gives him face publicly and later invites the gang members to drink, allowing the two to become companions 25 26.
Gang Conflicts
Jia Yanyong joins Lin Zheyu and Xie Jiang in confronting the Wuding Gang. He fights Xing Jinglong with his usual reckless, offense-only style, shattering a stool with Black Fiend Fist and enduring a disadvantage in cultivation through ferocity and experience 35 36.
When Xing Jinglong attempts to provoke the Flying Rainbow Gang again, Jia is immediately ready to fight. Lin restrains him after identifying an opposing Organ Refining expert, preventing Jia from charging into an unfavorable conflict 43.
Life at Bidan Tea House
Jia Yanyong becomes a regular at Bidan Tea House alongside Xie Jiang and Ning Hui. He enjoys Legend of the Condor Heroes, drinks, gambles, and trades rumors with the group when not needed for gang business 49.
Trivia

- His companions unanimously consider him the sort of fighter likely to charge into an encirclement and get himself killed 43.
