Background / History

Feng Hao was a medical apprentice at Hanging Pot Medical Hall who had briefly returned to his hometown for a funeral before being assigned to work alongside Shen Han under Huang Tie at Clinic No. 8. Shen Han's fast and accurate diagnoses quickly impressed him. Under Huang Tie's prompting, Feng Hao began addressing Shen as “Senior Brother Shen” and consulting him on medical questions. 4 7

After Shen Han became a physician and took charge of Clinic No. 13, Huang Tie allowed Feng Hao to accompany him. Shen deliberately entrusted routine illnesses to Feng Hao, giving him practical experience and significantly improving his medical ability. 11 12

Feng Hao eventually became capable of managing most consultations independently, leaving only difficult and complicated cases for Shen Han. He and Shen also helped clear the backlog of patients left behind when Huang Tie went missing. 25 32

Personality

Feng Hao is earnest, grateful, and eager to learn. He openly admires Shen Han's medical ability and recognizes that Shen's mentorship gives him opportunities he would not otherwise have had. 7 19

He is cautious about the violent martial world around Three Rivers County, choosing not to leave the city after reports of gang-related killings. Despite this caution, he acts decisively when danger becomes clear, returning to warn Shen Han that the Green Garment Gang intends to murder them. 16 45

Feng Hao supports Shen Han in operating Clinic No. 13 during its rapid growth. He carries out the registration system that turns an overcrowded, disorderly consultation room into an organized queue, and he increasingly manages patients without direct supervision. 16 25

Stone Ox Town Incident

Feng Hao accompanies Shen Han to Stone Ox Town to treat Green Garment Gang leader Cao Ziping. He helps deduce that the gang's Returning Cloud Pill was likely stolen long before Cao Ziping was injured. 40 42

After returning to retrieve their medicine chest, Feng Hao overhears Cao Lin's plan to kill both physicians with poisoned wine. He escapes and warns Shen Han, but is later struck in the chest by an arrow fired by Black Dragon Gang Young Master Du Chong while they flee. Shen Han treats him in a cave and later kills Du Chong in retaliation. 45 47

Promotion to Physician

Feng Hao recovers from his arrow wound, purchases a new home with the payment earned from the Green Garment Gang house call, and begins preparing to meet a prospective marriage partner. 51

Shen Han later recommends him for promotion to physician. Han Zhengming accepts immediately, raising Feng Hao's monthly salary from two taels as an apprentice to twenty taels as a physician and granting him his own consultation hall. 78
