Seventy years had passed since the comprehension contest between Seven Nights Star Lord and Ning Ye.

Just as Ning Ye had predicted, over these seventy years, Seven Nights Star Lord's rate of comprehension had clearly been far faster than Ning Ye's.

He had already comprehended part of the Dao laws within that Great Dao divine weapon, so not only did he no longer need to fear harassment from Ning Ye's subordinates, he could even interfere with Ning Ye in turn.

However, Seven Nights Star Lord had concerns of his own.

He knew perfectly well that no matter how far Ning Ye fell behind, he still possessed his strongest trump card—when he could not win, he could simply smash the pot and turn hostile outright.

By then, every advantage would vanish like smoke, and Seven Nights Star Lord would immediately die.

For that very reason, Seven Nights Star Lord did not dare appear too strong.

To him, the most important thing was concealing his progress.

Having comprehended ten percent of the Dao laws, he had to pretend he had grasped only three percent. Then, when he completely mastered it at the final moment, he could strike without warning and seize the Dao artifact, settling the overall situation in one stroke.

Thus, Seven Nights Star Lord did not dare harass Ning Ye too excessively—but he could not refrain from harassing him either, for he feared Ning Ye would see through his act.

He could even imagine that Ning Ye might be able to tell he was putting on an act, but Ning Ye had no way to judge just how much he was hiding.

Put plainly, this was a battle of minds. Both sides knew the other's objective; the only difference lay in the precision of their judgment.
