Chapter: Zijing
"Zijing, judging by what you just said, could it be that you and Leisijing were both born from these Amethyst Mountains, and Leisijing is not actually your biological son?" Lincoln seized on a detail from Zijing's words and asked in surprise.
Zijing nodded, recalling, "Back then, I was born and took charge of the entire Amethyst Mountains. Later, by a stroke of luck, I obtained a Main God Spark and became a Main God. Many years after that, a second Amethyst Divine Beast was conceived within the Amethyst Jade Essence—that was Leisijing. By rights, he is actually my younger brother, but I always loved raising him like a son, so I told him I was his mother. Not many people know about this, and I ask that you please not tell him, lest he throw another tantrum."
Lincoln laughed, though he was also full of confusion, "Since not many people know, why did you choose to tell me?"
"Because I feel a sense of kinship," Zijing stood up and looked toward the direction of the Blood Peak Continent. "Lincoln, our experiences are actually quite similar. Your Main God Spark came from Aikes, who was killed by Augusta. For some reason, that Main God Spark drifted into a Material Plane, where you found and refined it."
"And my Main God Spark came from Pontos, who was killed by the Four Divine Beasts. That was a long time ago. Pontos was the previous Destruction Intermediate Main God. He had a conflict with the Four Divine Beasts and they fought a great battle outside Hell. To everyone's surprise, the combined divine ability of the Four Divine Beasts was too strong, and Pontos was killed. But because multiple Main Gods were fighting in the chaos, the Four Divine Beasts didn't have time to collect the Main God Spark. That spark was very close to me in the Spatial Turbulence, so I risked self-exile and successfully refined it."
"Of course, when I refined it, I didn't know the origin of this Main God Spark."
Zijing spoke at length, and Lincoln listened intently. "So, there was such a past." These were secrets among the Main Gods, some even being private matters; before becoming a Main God, Lincoln would never have had the chance to come into contact with them.
"Therefore, when the Four Divine Beasts later came to cause me trouble, fortunately, the Destruction Chief Sovereign and the Thunder Sovereign at the time stood on my side and spoke for me. I also agreed to owe the Four Divine Beasts a favor, and that was how it ended."
So that was it. Lincoln's eyes brightened. In the original story, Zijing clearly owed the Four Divine Beasts clan a favor, yet after the Four Divine Beasts fell and the clan was seen to be in decline, she was never willing to say a word to help. When the Blood Peak Sovereign spoke, the Eight Great Clans immediately retreated; if Zijing wanted to help, that was how she should have done it. Instead, she only gave the Soul Stones to Linley, a clansman who wasn't even that close to the Four Divine Beasts clan. Viewed this way, the logic finally held up.
Lincoln sorted through his thoughts and then asked, "Zijing, you just mentioned the Thunder Sovereign at the time. Could it be that even Chief Sovereigns have fallen over these countless years?" This was a deliberate question, excluding Aikes, the Paragon Intermediate Main God.
"Yes, over the countless years, two of the eleven Chief Sovereigns have fallen: the Chief Sovereign of Light and the Thunder Sovereign."
"Two have fallen, Light and Thunder." Lincoln repeated, lost in thought.
"The previous Chief Sovereign of Light offended Lord Orf and was killed by him. His Main God Spark was lost in the Spatial Turbulence and was only obtained and refined by Augusta many years later. Perhaps out of fear of Lord Orf, although Augusta is very overbearing, his ties to Lord Orf are very close." Zijing explained the situation from back then without tiring.
Lincoln listened quietly, not surprised in his heart. It was very reasonable for Orf to plot a Main God Spark for his own Light Divine Clone.
"The previous Thunder Sovereign, Leiaolangduo, died very unjustly," Zijing paused for a moment and took a deep breath. "At the time, the Earth Lower Main God Hullei offended him and fled to a Material Plane. In his rage, he descended upon that Material Plane with his true Main God body. As a result, the Material Plane collapsed, and he was completely erased by the Overgod of Destruction, including all his divine clones."
Lincoln found this strange, "It is an ironclad rule that Main Gods cannot enter a Material Plane other than the one they were born in. Would the Thunder Sovereign not know this? Could it be that the Overgods had not stated this rule before?"
Zijing shook her head, "Never. The Overgods have never told us how the world should operate or how Main Gods should perform their duties. Once a taboo is touched, the end is destruction."
Hearing Zijing say this, Lincoln recalled another matter and couldn't help but ask, "So, the fact that the Heavenly Realm was able to achieve ten consecutive victories in the Plane Wars back then, and all the Fate Main Gods received a portion of Willpower, was also because everyone didn't know about the reward for ten consecutive victories?"
Hearing this, Zijing gave a wry smile. "Indeed. The Fate Main Gods were just lucky. Otherwise, with the combined obstruction of all the other Main Gods, even the Heavenly Realm could not have achieved ten consecutive victories. Since then, there have been four instances of nine consecutive victories over the countless years, but they were all frantically blocked in the final match. No one has ever achieved ten consecutive victories again."
Lincoln also shook his head. He didn't believe the Heavenly Realm was just lucky to be the first and only one to receive the ten-victory reward. Perhaps, while other Main Gods thought the Plane Wars were nothing more than toys of the Overgods, Orf had already planned to achieve more victories in the Plane Wars. He just didn't know at the time which victory number would trigger a change, but he was willing to strive and work for it.
"That's not right," Lincoln raised another question. "Although the Overgods gave no hints, have no Main Gods tried to enter a Material Plane in all the years since Main Gods were born?"
Zijing sighed again. "They have. In the beginning, during the chaos between Main Gods, the Intermediate and Lower Main Gods felt no sense of security. At that time, some Main Gods wanted to hide in Material Planes. After all, Material Planes are as numerous as the sands of the Ganges; if one really picked one at random to hide in, it would be very hard to find them. However, the moment their Willpower probed into a Material Plane, the entire plane would begin to tremble. In the end, no one dared to enter. But Hullei, who was being hunted by Leiaolangduo at the time, was in a life-or-death situation and chose to flee back to the Material Plane of his birth. He was also the first Main God to enter his home Material Plane after becoming a Main God. Seeing that he was fine, Leiaolangduo dared to enter. Who would have thought he would never return, while Hullei instead obtained his Thunder High Main God Spark? He became the Thunder Sovereign and additionally possessed the portion of Willpower brought by refining an extra Main God Spark, leaping to become the strongest among the Law Sovereigns."
Lincoln was speechless. This Leiaolangduo was truly unlucky; he was the "first person to eat a tomato," and he even ate a poisonous one. As for Hullei, he seemed to have the protagonist's script, encountering such a windfall. After all, the Overgod is Heaven itself; the Overgod killed the Thunder Sovereign right near him, so the High Main God Spark was practically delivered to his doorstep.
After an in-depth exchange, Lincoln sincerely thanked Zijing and bid her farewell, while also cordially inviting her to visit the Darkness Divine Plane and the Chainis Plane when she had time. The Zijing Divine Beast was a Destruction and Earth dual-element beast; Zijing's Earth Divine Clone could go to Material Planes. Of course, if there was truly no other choice, she could always follow the example of the Death Chief Sovereign and use a projection clone.
Lincoln had gained a great deal. He tore through space and left Hell, preparing to return to the Chainis Plane through the Spatial Turbulence. Fortunately, he still had a divine clone in the Chainis Plane; otherwise, in this vast Spatial Turbulence, and being his first time traveling through it, he might not have been able to find his way back.
