"Silent Sage" Buckner Selys entered the reception room with the support of a maid.
After taking a seat, he looked up at the panel of judges, surprise appearing in his eyes. "Kate, you're here too?"
"Yes, Teacher Selys." Claire smiled. "It's been so many years. Has your health been well, Teacher?"
Buckner Selys rested his cane against the side of his chair, then straightened his back as much as he could. Stroking his white beard, he said, "Don't let my appearance fool you. I'm actually in fairly good health. My legs are just a little unsteady now, so I have to walk around more every day."
"That's good." Claire said. "There's no need for you to introduce yourself, Teacher. Could you tell us why you wish to teach at the Duke's Mansion?"
Buckner Selys narrowed his eyes, sweeping his gaze past Alvitr and Dark before finally resting it on Gatomon.
Then, a look of understanding appeared on his face. "I have never seen a Magic Spirit with such intelligence. If these Magic Spirits are the ones I would be teaching, then I would like to see just how far their intelligence can develop. If not, please allow me to take my leave."

Claire and Alvitr both looked toward Dark, waiting for his decision.
Dark smiled. "Then, Lord Selys, do you believe my Magic Spirits could possibly learn magic, or even become magisters?"
This was an answer Dark had been seeking all along.
Yet after an entire school year, he had only succeeded in teaching the Magic Spirits simple manipulation of magic power.
Buckner Selys could not help but laugh heartily. "I would need a deeper understanding before I could tell you that. But it seems our goals are surprisingly aligned."
