Background / History
Ran first meets Mikage Touji on the bus to school, where she takes his seat and later gives it to an elderly woman because she considers it the “spoils” of having taken it. She immediately becomes fixated on learning Mikage’s name, following him after they disembark and repeatedly asking him to reveal it. 1
After entering the same class, Ran feels that Mikage’s eccentric self-introduction ruined her own carefully prepared introduction. Their antagonism develops into a competitive partnership as both investigate the school’s concealed point and class systems. 3 4
Ran’s family had prevented her from visiting ramen shops alone. She uses her independence at school to try one for the first time, choosing an extremely spicy bowl despite Mikage’s warnings. 7 8
Appearance
Ran is noted for her blue-violet pupils and usually cold, blank, or indifferent expression. Her appearance can sharply contrast with the visible delight she shows when winning against Mikage. 1 7
- Blue-violet eyes 1
- Pale, small hands 11
- Seen wearing two braids while heading to school 11
- Later seen with a ponytail 49
- Often maintains an unreadable expression even while provoking others 2 3
Personality
Ran is intensely curious, stubborn, and competitive. Her first interaction with Mikage is defined by an unwavering effort to learn his name, while their later rivalry begins over the respective merits of Kamen Rider and Ultraman. 1 4
She approaches ordinary situations as adventures or challenges, frequently invoking the supposed traditions and bloodline of the “Morishita Family.” She is drawn to hidden information, obscure books, supernatural folklore, unfamiliar restaurants, and improvised games. 3 7 17
Though she can be manipulative and mischievous, Ran is also attentive to people others overlook. Yamamura Miki credits Ran with remembering her full name, sincerely thanking her, and being the first person to actively seek her friendship. 7 17
Abilities & Skills
Information Gathering and Deduction
Ran independently notices the unusually high number of students choosing free meals, correctly connecting it to possible financial hardship and a low or absent personal-point allocation. 3
- Investigates the school’s hidden rules as a personal “treasure” rather than accepting information from others. 3
- Competes with Mikage to uncover details of the class-point and advancement system. 4 6 7
- Uses a digital voice recorder while eavesdropping to gain an advantage in the information duel. 7
- Recruits Yamamura Miki’s low presence as an information source after upperclassmen fail to notice her nearby. 7
- Helps identify Katsuragi Kōhei as a suitable person to manage Class A’s affairs. 8
Improvised Tactics
Ran turns classroom supplies into tools for pranks and mock combat.
- Launches eraser shavings with rubber bands. 19 20

- Uses her seat behind Mikage to maintain a favorable firing position during their classroom skirmishes. 26
- Keeps a “Mikage-Morishita Friendly Non-Aggression Pact,” though she is willing to break it first. 26
Athleticism
Ran is a capable runner and swimmer, especially when challenged.
- Outruns Mikage to the classroom while both are late. 11
- Records a pool time of two minutes and twenty-three seconds during a challenge. 14
- Regularly turns races and swimming contests with Mikage into wagers. 11 15
