The library.
Before Sakayanagi and Hiyori began their afternoon conversation.
After Kujo left his seat.
During this interval, Kujo encountered an inquiry from Katsuragi of First-Year Class A.
"Kujo, please wait a moment."
This was a first-year student who not only spoke like an old man but looked even older, one of the leaders of Class A.
In the original story, Katsuragi eventually broke away from Sakayanagi and became an ally of Ryuen.
Facing him now, Kujo decided to stop and hear what the other had to say.
"I want to know information regarding Ryuen from your class. I am willing to trade points for it."
Kujo was stunned.
He quickly reacted.
Is Katsuragi currently the type who is lagging behind in information?
Instead of acting like Ichinose, who positioned herself as the leader of Class C, he wanted to obtain information about Ryuen from him?
Perhaps Kujo had encountered too many strange people lately, which led to a strange illusion.
An illusion that he was actually quite formidable.
Facing Katsuragi's request, Kujo made an exorbitant demand: "One hundred thousand points."
This was the amount of points a student would have to save without eating or drinking since the start of the school year to accumulate.
Faced with this sky-high price, Katsuragi countered directly: "Ten thousand points."
Hearing this, Kujo raised an eyebrow.
He had just said it casually, but he hadn't expected Katsuragi to actually pull out his phone, ready to transfer the points to Kujo.
Is Ryuen worth that much?
"I can give you that. However, given the personality of Sakayanagi in your class, it would be difficult for her not to have planted someone to eavesdrop on you. I suggest you communicate with me via text message."
Hearing this, Katsuragi nodded.
Kujo being so easy to deal with was beyond Katsuragi's expectations, but at the same time, he was very concerned about the eavesdropping Kujo had mentioned.
Katsuragi looked around.
At this moment, Kamuro Masumi, Yamamura Miki, and Morishita Ai, who were hiding behind three different bookshelves, were startled.
In that instant, they all thought their movements had been discovered by Kujo and the other.
As it turned out, was it just a bluff?
Kamuro was responsible for observing Katsuragi's movements at all times, following Sakayanagi's instructions.
Yamamura was responsible for monitoring when Kujo would return to his seat, following Sakayanagi's instructions.
Morishita was different from the other two; she leaned against a bookshelf, bored, chewing gum while waiting to carry out a special task assigned by Sakayanagi.
On the other side.
Kujo took out his phone and sent the personal profile of Ryuen he had saved on his device to Katsuragi.
These were notes he had made in his spare time, specifically to deepen the fragmented memories of his past life.
Kujo hadn't expected that such scribbles could actually be sold for points.
Next, he told Katsuragi, who represented Class A, everything since the start of school: how Ryuen had integrated the class single-handedly, and that he had two capable assistants, Ishizaki and Albert.
To Kujo, this information was worthless; if anything, as long as one could speak, one could ask any student in Class C for it by spending a few points.
He speculated that Katsuragi's goal was merely to verify information through him or to obtain leverage regarding his betrayal of class secrets.
In fact, Kujo's guess was correct.
At this moment, Katsuragi just wanted to see if the person valued by the Student Council President had any merit.
Now that the probing plan was going surprisingly smoothly, it seemed he had been overthinking things.
Katsuragi felt that the reason he had failed the Student Council interview had nothing to do with the man named Kujo before him.
According to the prior agreement, he transferred his ten thousand points to Kujo.
But when Kujo deliberately showed the remaining points in his account to Katsuragi, a possibility crossed the other's mind. He had inquired about Kujo during his Student Council interview, and ever since then, he had assumed Kujo was a member of Class C who defied Ryuen, but now that assumption seemed wrong?
"Kujo, have you also submitted to Ryuen's rule?"
This was a clever way to ask.
Asking this in a public place, especially in a spot where Kujo had just mentioned someone was eavesdropping, a normal person would immediately deny it for the sake of their reputation.
But if one could not deny it immediately and needed to think before answering, that in itself was an answer.
However, things did not proceed according to Katsuragi's expectations, and Kujo then generously admitted to his statement, spouting nonsense:
"Ryuen's ideas aren't entirely bad. Everyone advancing to the next grade, right? I was persuaded by him. To be precise, Ryuen and I are strategic partners."
Hearing this, Katsuragi frowned.
In his eyes, Ryuen of Class C was undoubtedly someone who ruled his class through violence and intimidation, a dangerous existence.
As for the rumors recently circulating throughout the grade that Classes B, C, and D were planning to unite to attack Class A, Katsuragi judged that the person who stood to gain the most from this was Ryuen of Class C.
He had interacted with Ichinose, the leader of Class B.
Katsuragi judged that while she was capable of uniting the first-year students, she was not necessarily the type to proactively initiate such a scheme.
Regardless, for the time being, Kujo of Class C was also an enemy of Class A.
But an enemy was not necessarily someone who couldn't be utilized.
At this moment, in Katsuragi's eyes, Kujo was a pawn that could be used to keep Ryuen in check.
"However, it seems you don't fully align with Ryuen, so let's keep in touch. If you can provide any information on Ryuen, I will pay you the corresponding private points."
With that, Katsuragi left the library.
As the current leader of Class A, he was incredibly busy trying to reconcile the relationship between the members of the Sakayanagi Faction and the Katsuragi Faction.
A short while later.
After watching Katsuragi leave the library, Kujo turned his head, only to find another Class A student jogging up to him.
"Hello, Kujo Makoto. I'm Morishita Ai from Class A. I'd like to trade points for five minutes of your time."
Kujo was stunned. Were private points really this easy to come by now?
He operated his phone and gave her the security code used for receiving anonymous points.
Then, Morishita asked to exchange contact information, and Kujo agreed.
However, after the exchange was successful, she actually insisted that Kujo change her contact name to: [Sakayanagi Arisu].
Kujo was taken aback, but he quickly reacted and said:
"Are you actually using Sakayanagi's phone?"
Morishita made an "X" with her fingers above her head and muttered:
"That is an NG item."
Kujo frowned, not understanding the girl's words.
What was an NG item?
"A prohibited topic."
Morishita narrowed her eyes slightly and retorted:
"For someone with the personality of a middle-aged man, Kujo Makoto, you've never even been to an izakaya?"
Hearing this, Kujo snapped back:
"Sounds like you're more of an old man than I am. So, what do you want me to do with these five minutes you've paid for?"
Morishita was still chewing gum, which she had popped into her mouth earlier to keep quiet while eavesdropping.
She couldn't spit it out now, so she had to keep chewing.
Consequently, her words were muffled:
"I'm just taking points from Sakayanagi Arisu to do what she asked me to do."
Ignoring her strange habit of calling people by their full names, Kujo teased her:
"Is it really okay to just say something like that out loud?"
Looking Kujo up and down, Morishita asked nonchalantly:
"Should I have let you think I was sent by that bald guy? You two seemed to be having a fun chat. Although there are people in our Class A who enjoy watching cricket fights, watching you bully him was quite interesting too."
Morishita Ai was one of the few girls in the original story who could work alongside Ayanokoji as an equal in the later stages; if one had to describe her, she was a powerhouse character who you could never predict what she would say next.
"So, are we just going to stand here and chat?"
At this, Morishita pulled a roll of A4 paper from her school uniform sleeve and handed it toward Kujo.
This action left Kujo dumbfounded.
Question: Just how much stuff can a girl hide on her person?
Kujo reluctantly took it and gave it a disdainful glance.
The A4 paper contained a message from Sakayanagi, the gist of which was that she wanted to make a deal with Kujo.
Kujo could decide the terms of the deal himself, and Sakayanagi would simply pay him in private points.
However, the reason Sakayanagi was so kindly offering Kujo this opportunity came with extra conditions; after all, not just anyone could conduct business with a student from Class A.
For this, Kujo would be responsible for reserving the opportunity for her to face Ayanokoji later on.
More accurately, he had to create an opportunity for Sakayanagi and Ayanokoji to face each other alone.
Kujo signaled his understanding.
After all, in the original story, Sakayanagi Arisu was just a girl who "only wanted to beat Ayanokoji once, even if just for a moment."
After reading the words above, Kujo returned the paper to Morishita.
Morishita folded it over and over, conveniently using it to dispose of her flavorless chewing gum.
"I'll contact Sakayanagi separately about the specifics later. But Morishita, why do you look so happy?"
Morishita was indeed happy right now, because she felt that things were getting more and more interesting.
The school had been open for less than a month, yet people from all four classes had already started orbiting the person in front of her.
Isn't this exactly what a protagonist in a youth school story looks like?
"Because you, Kujo Makoto, really need points, right? Since you accept points from anyone who offers them, I have eighty thousand points too. Do you want them? I can sell them to you at a special price."
Morishita gestured with her hands, attempting to bribe Kujo with points, and Kujo didn't hold back at all:
"Girls have more places to spend points, don't they? Aren't you planning to keep some for yourself?"
Hearing this, Morishita put on a look of feigned shock.
"Are you trying to swindle all my points away? You're quite bold, Kujo Makoto. But you're pretty handsome, so if you insist on taking them from me, I suppose that wouldn't be impossible."
Looking at the girl who was even more eccentric than himself, Kujo didn't know what to say for a moment.
Morishita had been testing Kujo from the very beginning, and she continued to dig a trap:
"Don't you want to see the look on Sakayanagi Arisu's face when she's thwarted?"
Even though it was just a test, Kujo also felt that this proposal was actually quite interesting.
"The five minutes are up, right?"
Hearing this, Morishita estimated that the five minutes had indeed just about passed.
It was even possible that ten minutes had already gone by.
The task was complete, and there was no need to stay any longer.
Morishita patted her knees and leaned in closer to Kujo, signaling for him to crouch down so she could whisper to him, despite his height of 1.8 meters.
Kujo told her to just say whatever she had to say directly.
Morishita made an okay sign with her hand over her right eye, then tilted her head back and made a public declaration:
"You want to promote to Class A, right? Sakayanagi Arisu has already told us. I'll make a deal with you: as long as I'm still in Class A, if you ever find yourself just short of the points you need to transfer, just let me know, and I'll give them to you."
"Sigh, your words have probably been heard by the people tailing us, haven't they?"
Looking at the indifferent Morishita, Kujo thought of something else, and he used his fingers to trace what he wanted in the air.
You want the chess records from Sakayanagi's usual games?
Morishita was stunned.
Kujo Makoto, are you actually planning to challenge that woman?
Wow!
My god!
You're too amazing, aren't you?!
When Kujo returned to his seat, Hiyori happily told him about what had just happened.
"I made a new friend just now!"
"Is it Sakayanagi? You two have similar interests, so you'll definitely have plenty to talk about in the future."
"Mm-hmm!"
