Background / History

Manabu was raised under high expectations from his parents, with his childhood largely spent between school and training classes. His younger sister Suzune began copying his words, habits, schedule, gait, academic efforts, martial-arts practice, and even his preference for long hair. Believing she had greater potential than a life spent imitating him, Manabu grew cold and critical in an attempt to force her to develop independently. 34

He enrolled at Advanced Nurturing High School partly because its isolation would prevent outside contact for three years. Suzune nevertheless followed him to the school, entering Class D while he rose to Class 3-A and became Student Council President. 34 35

As president, Manabu initially handled Student Council and class matters alone. His failure to communicate decisions and build a broader support base allowed Vice President Miyabi Nagumo to accumulate influence among the second-years. After Yuan Yuyuan confronts him over this pattern, Manabu acknowledges that his detached leadership has repeated the mistakes he made with Suzune. 16
