Background / History

Yuki initially presents herself as an unremarkable student, claiming to have no hobbies, no particular strengths, and nothing she is wholly incapable of. She wants a quiet school life and attempts to fit in with Class B, but remains somewhat detached from her classmates. Yuan Yuyuan notices early that her modest introduction conceals useful ability. 4 22

After a Class B study session, Yuan invites Yuki to dinner and confronts her about the insincerity of her social relationships. He offers her an arrangement: she will no longer need to keep pretending with her classmates, while she will intervene for Class B when his and Ichinose Honami's leadership is insufficient. Yuki accepts, viewing the deal as preferable to maintaining a false social life for three years. 22

Yuki becomes Yuan's confidante and operative. Their partnership expands from handling Class B's internal problems to investigating Class D; she analyzes students' hidden weaknesses, follows Kushida Kikyo, and records evidence of Kushida's hostile outburst and later threats. 27 29 30
