Background and Standing

Class D is initially characterized by its lack of a unified leader and division into several small cliques. Yōsuke Hirata, a popular couple, and a gyaru appear to hold more influence than the other students, while Suzune Horikita remains detached from the group. 6

Yuan Yuyuan informs the class that the school sorts students by aptitude: Class A contains the elite, while Class D is considered the “inferior” class. Sae Chabashira's silence effectively confirms the claim, throwing the class into disorder. 11 12

By the beginning of May, Class D has failed to overtake Class C and remains 20 class points behind it. The class also faces the school's academic expulsion rule: failing even one subject in the official examinations results in expulsion, with 37 as the passing score. 19

Information Contract

Yuan offers Class D information on the school's point system and class-assignment pattern. His proposed terms require one million private points every month if the information proves valuable; if it does not, he will take nothing. He also offers Horikita a refund and an additional 200,000 points if she helps him exceed his target without revealing the arrangement. 6

Hirata ultimately signs the prepared contract for the class after Yuan creates urgency by warning that their future private points may fall if they refuse. 11

Violence Incident

Class C submits a document accusing Sudō of using violence against Yi Dashan and other students, placing Class D at risk of disciplinary action. 41

A deliberation is scheduled one week later, with Sudō facing possible expulsion. Yuan proposes using Ayanokōji to save him and pressures Kushida to persuade Ayanokōji to intervene. 43
