Background

Altered past timeline

Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village as Tang Hao's son and a transmigrator who retained knowledge of the Tang Sect's secret arts. At his Martial Soul awakening, he manifested Blue Silver Grass; despite it being regarded as a weak Martial Soul, the test revealed his Innate Full Soul Power 286 287.

Martial Soul Hall's attention fell on him after Yue Guan and Gui Mei recognized his resemblance to Tang Hao. Tang Hao confronted the pair to protect his son, then relocated Tang San to Nuoding City and enrolled him at Notting Academy 292 293. When Martial Soul Hall's search closed in again, Tang Hao left Tang San in the city so that he could continue studying safely 299.

At Notting Academy, Tang San trained under Yu Xiaogang. He obtained a four-hundred-year Datura Snake Soul Ring through the use of his hidden weapons, but his attempt to spar with Wang Chuan ended when Wang Chuan summoned a vast cloud sword through poetry. The encounter left Tang San convinced that Wang Chuan was an insurmountable existence 303 304.

Five years later, Tang San sought a future at Shrek Academy, only to witness Wang Chuan kill its recruiter and subsequently erase the academy and its inhabitants. With Shrek destroyed, he followed Yu Xiaogang to Heaven Dou Royal Academy, where he resolved to cultivate quietly rather than seek attention 311 314 317.

When Bibi Dong pursued him and Tang Hao, Tang Hao detonated his Soul Rings to create an escape route. Tang San was left with his father's letter and the Clear Sky Sect's heirlooms, then set out to seek the Sea God's inheritance on Sea God Island 319 320. He survived the journey by sea with Xiao Bai's aid and reached the Seahorse Sacred Pillar after enduring the Sea within a Sea 321 322.

The Sea God's fall ended the island's Nine Trials before Tang San could receive the inheritance. Soon afterward, he learned that Tang Hao had died fighting Yue Guan and Gui Mei. Wang Chuan later showed Tang San a timeline in which he would have lived alongside his family, companions, and the Tang Sect; Tang San understood that Wang Chuan's interference stemmed from Tang San's own future manipulation of fate. He accepted this retribution and dissipated 324 325.

Later era

In the later-era conflict with the Abyss Plane, Tang Wulin summoned Tang San through the Sea God Trident. Tang San's appearance restored the Douluo Plane's natural sky and sea, dispersed the Abyssal Sage Monarch's darkness, and restrained the Sage Monarch with Boundless Sea Ripple 270.

Tang San focused on Wang Chuan rather than the Abyssal Sage Monarch. He defended the Tang Sect's role in preserving balance among the three powers, but Wang Chuan challenged him over the empires' treatment of commoners, Shrek Academy's privileges, and the cost of Tang San's plans. Tang San could not answer these accusations, and the faith sustaining him began to drain away 271 272.

After Wang Chuan ascended to godhood, Tang San's Boundless Sea Ripple was neutralized by Chaos Light. Wang Chuan used Cosmic Singularity to compress Tang San's soul into a single point, ending the confrontation 275. The collapse of faith in the Sea God later led to Tang San being labeled an evil god, while his temples, statues, scriptures, and relics were dismantled across the continent 277.

Tang San's appearance differs between his childhood and Sea God manifestations. As a child, he is a thin boy with short blue hair and clear, determined eyes; as the Sea God, he manifests with long blue hair, an imposing robe, and a golden trident 286 270.

He insists on testing his Soul Power despite Su Yuntao's dismissal of Blue Silver Grass, trains persistently after gaining his first Soul Ring, and continues pursuing strength after losing his home, teacher, father, and opportunity for the Sea God's inheritance 287 303 320 324.

His confidence is deeply damaged by Wang Chuan's overwhelming power. After their first encounter in the Star Dou Great Forest, he no longer believes he can surpass Wang Chuan and instead seeks only to avoid burdening those around him 309 316.

As the Sea God, Tang San presents himself with dignity and paternal warmth toward Tang Wulin. However, when questioned over the Tang Sect, Shrek Academy, and the welfare of common people, he is unable to refute Wang Chuan's arguments; the resulting disillusionment causes his faith power to decline 270 271 272.
