Background / History

Nalan Yanran is the daughter of Nalan Su and granddaughter of Nalan Jie, the latter a Dou Wang and one of the Jia Ma Empire’s Top Ten Experts. As the treasured young lady of the Nalan Clan, she grew up heavily indulged by her family. Her status rose further after Yun Yun accepted her as a personal disciple of the Misty Cloud Sect. 56 59

She was formerly engaged to Xiao Yan through a childhood arrangement. Nalan Yanran had already wished to end the engagement, asserting that marriage should be freely chosen rather than dictated by others. 61

Her first meeting with Gu Fengchen dramatically changed her outlook. Initially haughty and dismissive, she attacked him after objecting to her father treating him as a senior. Gu Fengchen easily stopped her attack, and she learned that he was a young Da Dou Shi capable of withstanding part of Nalan Jie’s strength. Humbled, she apologized and accepted his warning to restrain her conduct. 59 60
