Ch. 1Fairy Tail's Deception Mage

Ifrit de la Valier used Deception Magic and a pistol to eliminate the bandits led by Harry, completing his mission without damaging the hideout. He returned to Fairy Tail, where Mirajane accepted his mission photographs and a supermarket coupon.

  • Ifrit climbed to Harry’s mountain hideout and used a cursed-flute illusion to frighten and immobilize the bandits.
  • Ifrit shot the bandits while concealing his actions behind the illusion, then killed Harry when the bandit leader charged him.
  • Ifrit photographed the completed mission at the foot of the cliff and returned to Magnolia by carriage.
  • Ifrit gave Mirajane a supermarket coupon and handed her the photographs showing the defeated bandits.

Ch. 2Ifrit's Bad Taste

Ifrit used his illusion magic to guide Lucy through Fairy Tail’s brawl and confuse her and Mirajane with multiple copies of himself. After Makarov welcomed Lucy and lectured the guild, Ifrit revealed that the apparent destruction had only been an illusion, leaving the guild members furious with him.

  • Natsu returned to Fairy Tail and sparked a guild-wide brawl, while Lucy watched in shock.
  • Ifrit introduced himself to Lucy, escorted her through the fighting, and showed her his illusion magic by making several copies of himself.
  • Makarov stopped the brawl, welcomed Lucy, and reminded the guild to follow the path they believed in.
  • Makarov ordered everyone to repair the guild, but Ifrit revealed that the damage was an illusion and the hall remained intact.
  • The guild members shouted at Ifrit after he exposed his prank.

Ch. 3Erza's Invitation to Team Up

Ifrit was forced to leave the guild after his pranks and Gray's magic caused chaos, then spent several days relaxing before Erza recruited him, Natsu, and Gray for a job. The chapter ended with Ifrit fleeing after Erza knocked Natsu unconscious and threatened to exploit the weakness of his magic while he slept.

  • Ifrit's oil made the guild members slip, Gray's Ice-Make Magic blasted through the wall, and Makarov punished Gray and Natsu before Ifrit left.
  • Ifrit relaxed at home for several days, then decided to return to the guild and take a job.
  • Ifrit saw Erza reprimanding the guild and tried to leave, but she struck him and asked him to join her on a job with Natsu and Gray.
  • Erza told Lucy that Ifrit's magic did not work while he was asleep, prompting Ifrit to agree to the team-up.
  • Natsu mocked Ifrit, so Erza knocked Natsu unconscious; Ifrit left behind a quip and fled.

Ch. 4Lucy: Ifrit Is a Good Person

Ifrit joined Erza, Lucy, Gray, Natsu, and Happy as they set out to confront the Dark Guild Eisenwald over the cursed flute Lullaby. After Natsu was left aboard the train and attacked by Kageyama, Ifrit secretly swapped Lullaby for a fake and knocked Kageyama down.

  • Ifrit comforted Lucy at Magnolia Station and gave her a card with a strange protective pose and incantation.
  • Erza arrived with her luggage, praised Lucy based on a false rumor, and explained that Eisenwald had found Lullaby and was planning a major scheme.
  • The group got off at Onibus Station and realized Natsu had been left on the train, while Gray guessed Ifrit was still with him.
  • Kageyama beat Natsu while the moving train suppressed Natsu's magic, and Ifrit watched without intervening.
  • When the train stopped, Ifrit replaced Lullaby with a fake, stopped Natsu from wrecking the carriage, and kicked Kageyama to the ground.

Ch. 5Erigor: Go Eliminate Erza, Natsu, and Gray

Ifrit followed Eisenwald to Oshibana Station and secretly prevented the Dark Guild from harming the civilians. He warned the arriving military and reunited with Erza and the others as they prepared to confront Eisenwald.

  • Natsu knocked Kageyama unconscious, and Ifrit left the train after giving Natsu a fire dragon card.
  • Erza learned that Eisenwald had taken Kageyama and brought the group back aboard the train; Ifrit secretly stayed behind and saved a station worker from Erigor.
  • At Oshibana Station, Ifrit used magic to clear most passengers from the area and shot a Dark Mage who had bumped into him.
  • Ifrit warned the military that Eisenwald had occupied the station and identified himself as Ifrit de la Valier, the Elegant Magician.
  • Erza arrived exhausted, and Ifrit gave her and Lucy drinks to replenish their magic as Lucy asked about the dead Dark Mage.

Ch. 6Watch Out for Ifrit!

Ifrit stayed behind to examine Lullaby while Erza and Lucy fought Dark Mages in the building. He rescued Lucy after she was ambushed, then embarrassed her by replaying footage of her using the card he had given her.

  • Ifrit intimidated Lullaby into cooperating and began studying the flute as the others went upstairs to fight.
  • Erza fought Dark Mages in the lobby while Lucy and Happy were cornered by a group of enemies.
  • Lucy summoned Taurus to defeat the first attackers, but a hidden mage struck her with a hammer and left her badly hurt.
  • Lucy tried to use Ifrit's card as he had instructed, but it produced no magic, and the enemy advanced on her.
  • Ifrit appeared behind the ambusher and knocked him out, then gave Lucy medicine and explained how to use it.
  • Ifrit projected a recording of Lucy's dramatic spell pose, leaving her mortified before he vanished to check on Erza.

Ch. 7Gray's Scream

Natsu and the others escaped Erigor's Magic Wind Wall through Balgor's underground passage and raced to Clover Town, while Ifrit traveled separately. Kageyama surrendered the Lullaby flute after Makarov urged him to abandon it, just before Ifrit revealed he had been aiming a gun at him.

  • Natsu repeatedly charged Erigor's Magic Wind Wall, then proposed using Lucy's Celestial Spirits to escape, but Lucy explained that the plan needed a Celestial Spirit Mage outside.
  • Happy remembered Balgor, and Lucy used her key to summon the spirit, who burrowed an underground passage for the group.
  • Gray and Natsu rushed into the passage, and Ifrit vanished before the others could leave; Gray's scream and angry threats followed from below.
  • Erza drove toward Clover Town with Lucy and Gray, while Natsu and Happy went ahead and Ifrit hired a carriage of his own.
  • In Clover Town, Makarov persuaded Kageyama to drop the Lullaby flute and surrender, then told Ifrit to lower his gun.
  • Ifrit emerged from the shadows with his revolver and warned Kageyama that surrender had been wise.

Ch. 8Happy: It Looks Like There's Something Between Them

After Fairy Tail defeated Eisenwald, Ifrit revealed he had secretly replaced Lullaby from the start and arranged a machine-exhibition outing with Natsu and Gray. As the group prepared to rest, Natsu carried an exhausted Lucy down the mountain, and a cross-dressed guild master offered Ifrit a girlfriend.

  • Lucy shared her milk tea with Natsu, and Ifrit photographed their awkward moment as Happy teased them about having something between them.
  • Ifrit handed Makarov the real Lullaby and explained that he had swapped it on the train, leaving Gray to realize there had never been a genuine threat.
  • Ifrit gave Natsu and Gray tickets to Alex's Machine Exhibition, and Happy excitedly joined their robot act.
  • Makarov sent the exhausted group to find an inn, and Natsu carried a blushing Lucy down the mountain after Ifrit provoked him.
  • A cross-dressed guild master approached Ifrit and offered to find him a girlfriend from his guild.

Ch. 9Clumsy Natsu

After the damaged railway forced the group to travel on foot, Ifrit detoured to Ahanita Town to explore ahead of the next Alex's Machine Exhibition. As he photographed the town’s sunset-lit streets, he spotted a beautiful woman.

  • Bob pursued Ifrit with offers of girlfriends, but Ifrit escaped using magic.
  • Natsu carried Lucy and innocently compared her weight to Lisanna’s, prompting Ifrit to punch him and leaving Lucy curious about Lisanna.
  • Ifrit climbed onto Erza’s back to explain that carrying companions was normal, then vanished when Erza’s armor became uncomfortable.
  • Natsu tripped and accidentally grabbed Lucy’s breast, prompting her to slap him as cameras clicked.
  • After the group rested at an inn, Ifrit chose to travel separately and explore Ahanita Town, paying the entrance fee to enter its prosperous western side.
  • Ifrit enjoyed the town’s attractions and photographed its colorful sunset-lit streets before noticing a beautiful woman.

Ch. 10Banjou

Ifrit encountered Banjou and her guild companions, then watched a poor boy named Raid steal loose change to buy roast duck for his dying sister, Emily. After learning Emily had worsened, Banjou hurried home and then insisted Raid return the stolen money, leaving them to face Emily’s final moments.

  • Ifrit overheard Banjou refuse to take assassination jobs and end her dinner with Senior Jack and Owl Strongman.
  • A child stole Ifrit’s loose change, which Raid used to buy roast duck for Emily.
  • Raid met Banjou in East Town and told her Emily’s illness had worsened after the family ran out of money for treatment.
  • Banjou rushed home, learned Emily was already too late to save, and returned to the courtyard after seeing her.
  • Banjou ordered Raid to return the stolen money, saying Emily could not eat food bought with stolen money.

Ch. 11A Surprising Request

Ifrit accepted Banjou and Raid’s apology after Raid stole his money, then let Banjou guide him to an inn. Banjou asked him to take a family portrait of her and her younger siblings, leaving Ifrit surprised and questioning why she had not simply hired a photographer.

  • Banjou introduced herself and Raid, apologized for Raid stealing Ifrit’s money, and repaid the exact amount.
  • Ifrit returned the money to Raid as spare change and left to find an inn.
  • Banjou caught up with Ifrit and led him to a reasonably priced inn, where he decided to stay.
  • Banjou knelt and asked Ifrit to take a family portrait of her and her younger siblings.
  • Ifrit froze at the unexpected request and asked why Banjou did not buy a camera or get photos taken in town.

Ch. 12Cheese!

Ifrit agreed to take a family portrait for Banjou and her siblings in East Town, including her seriously ill sister Emily. After leaving town, he bought a new camera and prepared a report about Fairy Tail’s victory over Eisenwald for Wizard Weekly.

  • Banjou persuaded Ifrit to visit her home and take a family portrait in exchange for a favor.
  • Ifrit arrived in East Town and photographed Banjou, Raid, Emily, and the other children.
  • While traveling to the next town, Ifrit chose a new camera and asked a clerk to modify it so its shutter would make a louder sound.
  • Ifrit organized his photographs and wrote an article about Eisenwald, highlighting a photo of Erigor berating his subordinates.
  • Ifrit headed to the post office to send his report to Wizard Weekly and joked that its publication would ruin Erigor socially.

Ch. 13A Strange Group

Ifrit comforted a boy whose ice cream was lost, then encountered a strange group whose three-eyed leader called him a fraud. Back at Fairy Tail, Lucy learned about the guild’s five S-Class Mages and heard that Ifrit kept refusing the rank despite his strength.

  • Ifrit accidentally bumped into Tom, conjured a replacement ice cream, and warned Tom’s mother to keep him safe from the strange group nearby.
  • A three-eyed man called Ifrit a fraud, but an old man in his group stopped him from provoking a Fairy Tail member, and the group left.
  • Ifrit gave Tom the ice cream, vanished, and secretly paid three hundred J at an ice cream stall before returning to Magnolia Town.
  • Gray told Ifrit that Natsu and Erza planned to duel, while Lucy mistakenly thought Natsu and Gray were among Fairy Tail’s strongest members.
  • Levy explained that Gildarts, Laxus, Mystogan, Erza, and Mirajane were the guild’s five S-Class Mages, and Gray said Ifrit repeatedly declined the rank despite his strength.

Ch. 14Mystogan, Laxus

After Natsu and Erza returned from the Magic Council hearing, Mystogan used Sleep Magic during a guild visit, and Laxus challenged Ifrit. Ifrit outmaneuvered Laxus and warned him not to attack his guildmates before leaving, while Laxus flew off in anger.

  • Ifrit explained that the Magic Council hearing was mostly a public formality, and Natsu’s interference had prolonged the team’s return.
  • Makarov told Ifrit to stay by Mirajane’s side as the guild celebrated Natsu and Erza’s return.
  • Mystogan arrived and put most of the guild to sleep with his magic, but Ifrit and Makarov resisted it.
  • Laxus appeared and provoked Natsu before challenging Ifrit to come upstairs.
  • Ifrit dodged Laxus’s lightning attack, cut his earphone cord with a gunshot, and warned him not to attack his companions.
  • Ifrit left by car, and Laxus flew out of the guild in a streak of lightning.

Ch. 15Natsu the Troublemaker, Erza's Fury

Erza took Ifrit to Galuna Island to find Natsu, Lucy, and Gray after Natsu secretly accepted an S-Class job. After rescuing Lucy, Ifrit followed a masked figure to the Moon Temple, where he learned that Deliora would be revived that night.

  • Erza and Ifrit commandeered a pirate ship and forced its crew to sail them to Galuna Island.
  • Lucy fought a red-haired girl, survived Aquarius's tsunami, and was saved from a giant rat by Ifrit.
  • Erza arrived on the island, and Ifrit left to search for Natsu while pursuing his own lead.
  • Ifrit followed a masked figure into the Moon Temple and overheard wizards say Deliora would be revived once the Moon Magic Power was injected.

Ch. 16Ifrit: Damn, This Is Going Sideways

Ifrit followed Sardi from the Moon Temple to a hidden cavern where a group was preparing to revive Deliora, then was discovered by the three-eyed mage Reed. As Reed’s allies attacked, Ifrit dodged a claw strike from a strange boy, leaving the confrontation underway.

  • Natsu damaged the Moon Temple’s load-bearing walls to block moonlight from reaching Deliora, then fought Leo while Ifrit followed Sardi away from the battle.
  • Sardi entered a secret cavern filled with researchers, equipment, and mages, and reported that Fairy Tail had disrupted the plan to revive Deliora.
  • Gade said he would handle the Fairy Queen, while Ifrit found a file titled “Demon Research Records—B59 Squad.”
  • Reed recognized Ifrit despite his Deception Magic, and Ifrit realized Reed’s ability to track him did not rely on sight.
  • A strange boy attacked Ifrit from behind, but Ifrit anticipated the strike and dodged.

Ch. 17Ifrit: Stopping Me Isn't a Wise Choice

Ifrit fought his way out of Reed’s headquarters using the different chambers of his revolver, Till, but a Magic Barrier trapped him outside the cave. After killing the hunched old man who had raised the barrier, Ifrit faced Reed and the pursuing mages and vanished with Deception Magic.

  • Reed directed the mages to attack Ifrit, while Wade charged at him and dodged a bullet.
  • Ifrit used Till’s Wind Blast and Bombardment chambers to scatter the enemies and blast open an escape route through the mountain.
  • Ifrit fired Wind Blast to propel himself outside, then collapsed the passage behind him with another Bombardment shot.
  • A Magic Barrier descended and trapped Ifrit, and the hunched old man who had urged Reed to avoid trouble confronted him.
  • Ifrit shot the hunched old man and obliterated him with Void Flash, but the barrier remained as Reed and the other mages caught up.
  • Ifrit spread his magic power across the area and vanished using Deception Magic as he prepared to attack the mages.

Ch. 18Gade: Taking Down Ifrit? Ten Seconds Is Enough!

Ifrit fought Gade, using illusions and magic to wear him down before cutting off his left hand with Hani. Just as Ifrit tried to finish Gade, Wade intervened and charged at Ifrit at close range.

  • Lullaby appeared and Ifrit’s Bombardment shot killed the squad, while Wade pulled Reed to safety.
  • Gade confronted Ifrit, who evaded his fire magic and used false elemental attacks to confuse him.
  • Ifrit charged Void Flash, then drew Hani and severed Gade’s badly burned left hand.
  • Ifrit amplified Gade’s rage and covered him with an illusion of rotten herring, making him collapse and retch.
  • Wade deflected Ifrit’s fatal strike against Gade, took a bullet through his ear, and charged into Ifrit’s embrace.

Ch. 19Two-Quarters of the Truth

Ifrit used illusion and emotional manipulation to turn Gade against his allies while Reed realized that an unseen accomplice had been helping him. As Ifrit attacked Wade, Reed used his ability to disrupt Ifrit’s magic, forcing him to retreat.

  • Lucy pulled Ifrit out of Wade’s fatal claw strike, and Reed spotted the hidden accomplice and warned Wade and Gade.
  • Reed concluded that Ifrit was using an unseen assistant and illusions, then urged Gade and Wade to attack together.
  • Ifrit intensified Gade’s anger until Gade shoved Wade away and charged Ifrit alone.
  • Ifrit fired a bullet into Gade, then used an illusion of collapsing ground and lava to make Gade and Wade react in panic.
  • Ifrit flew at Wade and swung Hani at his neck, but Reed disrupted Ifrit’s magic, weakening him and forcing him to withdraw.

Ch. 20Ifrit: Could No One Guess the Other Side of Deception Magic If I Never Said It?

Ifrit used Deception Magic to manipulate Reed, Gade, and Wade, then killed Gade when Reed’s warnings failed. He revealed that his magic could also make people unable to see or hear, leaving Reed isolated and convinced the fight was over.

  • Reed used magnetic-field magic to track Ifrit, who recognized how Reed was sensing him.
  • Ifrit overwhelmed Reed with despair, but Reed recovered and shouted instructions to Gade and Wade.
  • Gade ignored Reed’s warning and charged at an apparent Ifrit, only to be cut in half by the real Ifrit.
  • Reed saw Wade attacking empty air and realized he was being deceived as well.
  • Ifrit explained that Deception Magic could make people unable to see or hear, then declared the fight over.
