Background / History
Zhu Xiyan was born as the illegitimate daughter of the Zhu Family Grand Duke of the Star Luo Empire. The Zhu Family’s succession system allowed only one outstanding heir to become family head; the remaining contenders had their cultivation crippled and were imprisoned. Zhu Xiyan’s full-blooded younger sister was therefore also her unavoidable rival. The pressure and demands of her family left Zhu Xiyan deeply insecure despite her admission to Star Luo Royal Academy’s Advanced Class Nine. 34
When Hals became Advanced Class Nine’s teacher, he singled her out as class monitor. Her classmates ignored her authority, and Zhu Xiyan admitted that they looked down on her because she was weak. Hals pressed her to prove her worth, awakening the anger and determination beneath her timidity. 34
Hals then offered to accept Zhu Xiyan as his disciple and give her power. She accepted him as her master, rapidly becoming colder, more assertive, and fiercely devoted to his teachings. 35 36
Appearance
Zhu Xiyan was initially a short-haired, pure-looking girl whose withdrawn posture and lowered gaze concealed her natural charm. Following her Blood Cocoon transformation, her appearance became markedly more mature and bewitching. 34 105
- Short, neat hair during her early academy period; later possesses waist-length red hair. 38 105
- Blood-red, alluring eyes after her transformation. 105
- Commonly wears black stealth attire, a hood, and a black mask during covert operations. 38 39
- Can manifest cat ears when activating her martial soul. 39
- Her blood energy can form a fitted blood-red dress around her body. 105
Personality
Before meeting Hals, Zhu Xiyan was timid, hesitant, and convinced that she deserved no respect because of her perceived weakness. Her family’s treatment had made her desperate for validation, and Hals’s recognition became the foundation of her loyalty to him. 34 35
As Hals’s disciple, she adopted his harsh worldview with near-religious conviction. She became cold, commanding, and contemptuous toward those she considered weak, while developing a taste for bloodshed and a willingness to use enemies—or even members of her own clan—as resources for growth. 35 36 80 110
Her cruelty is not absolute. Zhu Xiyan shows genuine attachment to Hals, has a playful rapport with Shi Jisheng, responds warmly to Ah Yin’s kindness, and carefully restrains her blood aura when holding the infant Man Yi. 96 146 170
