Jiang Chen nudged Tang San beside him. "Xiao San, you go first."
Tang San nodded and walked up to Su Yuntao.
Su Yuntao pulled himself together and injected Soul Power into the awakening array. Golden specks of light swiftly enveloped Tang San.
A moment later, a pale blue Blue Silver Grass appeared in Tang San's right palm, swaying gently in the breeze.
"Blue Silver Grass again..."
Su Yuntao frowned and spoke directly to Jiang Chen. "Kid, your turn."
"My lord, you haven't tested my little brother's Soul Power yet," Jiang Chen reminded him.
"There's no need. Blue Silver Grass is a standard trash Martial Soul. It can't awaken Soul Power," Su Yuntao said coldly.
"How would you know without testing it? What if a miracle happens?"
Seeing Jiang Chen constantly fighting for him, Tang San felt warmth rise in his heart. "Lord Soul Master, I think I should be able to awaken Soul Power."
"You two won't give up until you see the coffin, huh?"
Impatiently, Su Yuntao held the crystal ball out before Tang San. "Test it. You'd better prepare yourself mentally, otherwise..."
Before he could finish, Su Yuntao witnessed a scene he would never forget.
Tang San pressed his hand against the crystal ball. The next second, dazzling blue light erupted, illuminating the entire wooden hut.
"Innate, Innate Full Soul Power?!"
Su Yuntao's eyes widened round, and even his voice cracked. "Th-This is impossible! How can Blue Silver Grass possess Innate Full Soul Power?!"
Old Jack trembled with excitement. "L-Lord Soul Master, Xiao San, he..."
"What a pity! Such a pity!"
Su Yuntao shook his head repeatedly, looking utterly heartbroken. "If it were a beast Martial Soul or a weapon Martial Soul, such talent would surely achieve greatness in the future. But it had to be Blue Silver Grass... Sigh, a trash Martial Soul is still a trash Martial Soul."
Tang San pressed his lips together and said nothing. He merely stepped silently aside, though a flash of defiance passed through his eyes.
"Last one. Your turn," Su Yuntao said as he looked at Jiang Chen, his tone much flatter now.
After being shocked so many times in a row, he was getting numb to it.
Jiang Chen stepped forward and entered the array.
[Ding! Detected that the bonded target has awakened Twin Martial Souls: Blue Silver Grass (pending awakening), Clear Sky Hammer] [Triple Return activated. Host has obtained Martial Souls: Glazed Green Lotus, Purple Sky Dragon Spear]
Hearing the notification in his ear, Jiang Chen felt a surge of delight. He then spread open his right hand.
In an instant, brilliant green light flared. A budding Green Lotus slowly condensed in Jiang Chen's palm.
Its shape somewhat resembled the legendary Nine Star Begonia. Nine Lotus Petals, crystalline as jade, were surrounded by hazy seven-colored radiance.
It was exceptionally beautiful!
"Hiss... What kind of Martial Soul is that?"
Su Yuntao leaned closer to inspect it carefully. "It looks somewhat like the legendary Nine Star Begonia. It's certainly pretty, but I have no idea what it can do."
After all, in his eyes, most plant-type Martial Souls were trash Martial Souls. Even if they awakened Soul Power, their abilities were incredibly weak.
Su Yuntao muttered as he handed the crystal ball to Jiang Chen. "Come, test your Soul Power. The chances of a plant Martial Soul awakening Soul Power..."
Before he could finish, the crystal ball suddenly burst with piercing green light. The entire room was illuminated like an emerald palace, and the radiance was even more dazzling than Tang San's had been.
"A-Another Innate Full Soul Power?!"
Su Yuntao nearly popped his eyes out, his jaw almost hitting the floor. "What day is it today? You Holy Soul Village might as well rename yourselves 'Monster Village'!"
Old Jack was already too excited to speak. The cane in his hand shook as if it were tap-dancing.
Tang San, however, remained calm. After all, Brother Chen was the man who had defeated him.
If even he could awaken Innate Full Soul Power, there was no reason Brother Chen could not.
"Ahem."
Su Yuntao cleared his throat, forcing himself to remain composed. "Child, what is your name?"
"Jiang Chen."
"Jiang Chen... Good. I'll remember it."
Su Yuntao tried hard to maintain the dignity of a Lord Soul Master, but his hands were still trembling slightly.
Two Innate Full Soul Powers had appeared in a single awakening ceremony. What kind of uproar would that cause once it was reported!
He took a deep breath, calming his excitement, then asked, "Although your Martial Soul is also plant-type, Innate Full Soul Power means you have the qualifications to become a Spirit Master. Would you like to join Spirit Hall? It has abundant resources, and it can send you to study at Notting City Junior Spirit Master Academy."
Before Jiang Chen could answer, Old Jack rushed over anxiously. "He's willing! Of course he's willing! Xiao Chen, this is a tremendous opportunity!"
"Grandpa Jack, don't rush."
Jiang Chen smiled as he put away his Green Lotus Martial Soul, then turned to Su Yuntao. "What about my little brother Tang San? He also has Innate Full Soul Power. Will Spirit Hall take him in too?"
Su Yuntao's expression stiffened. He glanced at the "utterly ordinary" Blue Silver Grass in Tang San's palm, and the corner of his mouth twitched.
"Well... Blue Silver Grass is still Blue Silver Grass. Even with Innate Full Soul Power, its potential is limited. Spirit Hall isn't a charity. Resources must be spent where they matter most."
The main reason he had invited Jiang Chen to join Spirit Hall was that there had never been a case like his lotus Martial Soul before. It might possess potential for development.
But even with Innate Full Soul Power, a trash Martial Soul like Blue Silver Grass would be lucky to become a Soul Grandmaster. What potential could it possibly have?
Jiang Chen looked at Tang San, whose little face had darkened like the bottom of a pot, and smiled helplessly. "Forget about joining Spirit Hall. I'm used to freedom and don't like feeling restrained."
Seeing Jiang Chen refuse without hesitation, Su Yuntao's expression stiffened.
Old Jack, standing nearby, was so anxious that he slapped his thigh. "Xiao Chen, don't be foolish! That's Spirit Hall!"
"Grandpa Jack, I know what I'm doing." Jiang Chen's attitude remained firm.
After all, the only thing in Spirit Hall that could attract him was those few women.
But how could women be more important than cultivation?
Besides, as long as he was strong enough, what woman could he not have?
Su Yuntao wanted to persuade him further, but seeing Jiang Chen's resolute attitude, he could only sigh. "Since you're unwilling, I won't force you."
As he spoke, he glanced at Tang San beside him and took two slips of paper from his robes. "I've been helping Holy Soul Village awaken Martial Souls for several years. You two are the only ones who have ever awakened Soul Power, and both of you have Innate Full Soul Power."
"This can be considered fate. I have two Work-Study Student slots at Notting College. The conditions there may not compare to Spirit Hall, but they're enough for you to study."
Jiang Chen accepted the slips with both hands, then pulled Tang San into a bow.
"Alright, alright. I still need to hurry to the next village, so I won't chat with you any longer."
Watching Su Yuntao's hurriedly departing figure, Old Jack leaned heavily on his cane and sighed. When he turned to Jiang Chen, his eyes were filled with heartache and confusion.
"Xiao Chen, you... Sigh!"
"Grandpa Jack, stop sighing."
Jiang Chen waved the Work-Study Student certificates in his hand. "Don't I still have Notting College to attend?"
"How can that be the same!"
Old Jack stamped his foot anxiously. "That's Spirit Hall! Countless people would fight tooth and nail to get in, yet you turned it down just like that!"
