Kong Yubo looked around.
Apart from Xu Zhou, everyone else lay on the ground, struggling to get up.
Just one strike!
With only a single blow, they had lost all ability to resist.
Kong Yubo could feel the immense power contained in that strike—enough force to shatter their bodies.
Bai Zuo had manipulated their bodies to deflect most of the force, but even so, they had multiple fractures and likely couldn't continue fighting.
Terrifying!
Too terrifying!
This was the power of a Weird!
Unstoppable!
When humans faced it, they were as insignificant as mayflies or ants.
Kong Yubo "saw" his own body stand up, every joint creaking and groaning under the strain.
If he kept fighting, his body would probably be wrecked!
A human shell was as fragile as tofu before a Weird.
Only after experiencing it firsthand did Kong Yubo understand what kind of despair this was.
Contract Anomalists—these were the people who, facing such terrifying, unbeatable monsters, still risked their lives to defeat them!
Xu Zhou staggered to his feet, using his blade to prop himself up. That last blow had also dealt him some internal injuries.
"Cough, cough!"
His organs and body ached as if scorched.
It hurt so much!
Hiss! It felt like blood was trickling down from his head, seeping into his eyes, blurring his vision. No! He couldn't fall.
Just as Xu Zhou was forcing himself to stay upright, he felt his body gently lifted by the wind.
A low, magnetic voice rang out: "Alright, that's enough!"
Flying Bird A clapped his hands lightly.
A crisp chirping sound, as if answering his call, echoed in everyone's ears—the tender cry of a fledgling, so delicate.
Yet the moment it sounded, a fierce gale suddenly erupted!
The violent wind, no longer gentle, scraped across the ground like knives, peeling off a layer of earth, flipping up concrete, and toppling walls.
But when it blew toward Xu Zhou and the others, it gently veered around them.
Only Yama was pinned down by the violent storm, unable to lift his head.
The waters of the Yellow Spring were swept up by the raging tempest, losing their menacing power. Yama tried to reclaim control of the Yellow Spring, but under such swift winds, the water could only be dragged along, becoming a powerless part of the storm.
A massive water tornado, connecting heaven and earth as if it could devour everything, rampaged across the ground.
Kong Yubo stared at this apocalyptic, disaster-like scene, stunned into losing the ability to think.
Tian Hua and the others were the same.
Faced with such world-ending power, they could only watch in awe, mouths agape.
Was this the strength of an S-rank Contract Anomalist?
Yama roared in unwillingness. Half its authority had been seized by Bai Zuo, the Yellow Spring waters were swept away, its minions were routed—all the power that could help it was gone.
Finally, it tore off its sheep-bone mask, revealing its true face.
The draped clothing slid off.
A thick, black sludge-like semi-solid liquid crawled out from the clothes, expanding continuously until it became a monster several meters tall.
This monster, condensed from a black mire, sprouted a limb from its head, atop which grew a single eye, and a massive green maw formed on its body.
This was the true form of the Weird that called itself Yama.
It waved a tentacle, and half of a nearby building was blasted away. Its swamp-like body shifted, as if intending to directly devour everyone on the ground.
Xu Zhou coughed, and together with Ji Wu, each hoisted a person on their shoulders, retreating from its attack range. The others who could still move dodged under Bai Zuo's control.
Kong Yubo's eyes nearly split as he looked at the half-collapsed building—there were still many people who had taken shelter inside earlier.
Ji Wu sighed: "When containing a Weird, casualties like this are unavoidable."
But then, under their gaze, countless small spiders surged out from the building, dragging giant cocoons wrapped in white silk, evacuating the teetering structure.
Inside those giant cocoons were the people who had been controlled.
Ji Wu's eyes lit up. "Good work! I'll definitely report this to the Aberration Association and try to get your previous disciplinary actions wiped clean!"
Bai Zuo didn't reply. He just watched those wrapped in spider silk, a meaningful smile curling on his lips. It was hungry—these were all its prey!
The Heart Gu needed to be fed a great deal of malice.
Otherwise, it would devour its master.
The price for contracting each Weird is different.
Some Weirds need to be fed malice, some need to be fed anger, some need to be fed their own kind, and some even need to be fed flesh and blood.
The Heart Gu he had contracted loved nothing more than the malice emanating from humans.
To it, that malice was the finest food.
To raise such a behemoth required a staggering amount of malice. Fortunately, humans were the creatures least lacking in malice.
They would radiate it endlessly—malice from person to person, malice from humans toward animals, malice from humans toward nature.
Yama saw these weak little insects daring to flee. Its hunting instinct drove its massive body to give chase after those who ran.
Yet, before it could act, countless white feathers drifted down from the sky.
A crippled white bird with countless wings stared down at the moving Weird on the ground with clear, crimson eyes.
Flying Bird A had arrived in the sky at some unknown time. Under the refraction of light, several enormous feathered wings seemed to have sprouted from his back.
The wind swept through again.
Countless white feathers floated in the breeze, falling slowly and beautifully.
Kong Yubo lay together with his teammates, staring up at this breathtaking scene.
It really did look like a beautiful white bird!
But these beautiful white feathers turned into a death warrant for the Weird.
Another gust of wind blew, and its body swayed. It looked down at itself in disbelief, only to see countless tiny, densely packed holes suddenly appear on its form.
When that gust of wind came, countless sharp feathers pierced through its body and then drifted away lightly.
The fierce wind kept howling, like blades, slicing its body off piece by piece.
Such a horrifying sight made anyone who saw it feel their scalp tingle and their skin crawl!
Kong Yubo and his teammates all thought that if that wind had hit them, they would probably have been turned into a pile of minced meat in an instant.
The Weird's massive body crashed to the ground!
Flying Bird A took the opportunity to toss out the Weird Cage and seal it away.
"Done!"
Flying Bird A raised his fingers in a peace sign.
Only then did Xu Zhou collapse to the ground, unable to hold himself up any longer.
