As a Contract Anomalist, Xu Zhou was still a newcomer who had only recently made his contract.
His ability to control Weirds was not yet proficient, and his experience dealing with them was limited.
This was a Weird capable of unfolding a Ghost Domain—the question was whether the domain it deployed was an Incomplete Ghost Domain or a Semi-Complete Ghost Domain.
If it was an Incomplete Ghost Domain, then this Weird ranked as a Green Face, equivalent to a C-grade Contract Anomalist. If Xu Zhou could get into the right state of mind, he might barely manage.
If it was a Semi-Complete Ghost Domain, then this was a Malignant Curse—equivalent to a B-grade Contract Anomalist. Xu Zhou, as he was now, had no way to deal with it.
Without a clear grasp of the Weird's strength, Xu Zhou—the only one capable of fighting it—could not afford to take risks for an ordinary person he couldn't control.
At the end of the day, the Aberration Association's purpose was to contain Weirds; saving ordinary people was just a side objective.
After calm deliberation, Ji Wu abandoned the idea of rescuing the woman.
Xu Zhou felt reluctant, but faced with the unknown, he couldn't suppress his fear. He was just a college student who had accidentally gained power!
"Xu Zhou! Release the Ghost Hand!"
"But... I can't control it yet."
Ji Wu shot him a look of trust and encouragement.
Xu Zhou hung his knife at his waist and began attempting to communicate with the Weird he had contracted.
A pair of pale, bluish-white hands appeared in his mind, their black nails long and sharp. If not for the skin color, these hands would be quite beautiful.
Xu Zhou's face turned pale. The hands twisted and clawed wildly inside his head, as if trying to pierce and shred his brain.
Forcibly using his mind to control these Ghost Hands placed an immense mental burden on him.
Creak, creak!
Like the sound of nails scraping against glass, it stimulated his brain, sending waves of dizziness through him.
Xu Zhou suppressed the discomfort and formed a gesture with his hands. Gradually, the movements synchronized with the Ghost Hands in his mind.
This was the unique way a Contract Anomalist communicated with their contracted Weird.
Give me your power!
Creak! Creak!
As if responding to him, the Ghost Hands shifted from intangible to tangible, emerging through his chest and appearing before him.
The moment the Ghost Hands appeared.
The infant's cries grew even sharper.
"Wah! Wah! Wah-wah!"
Enduring the throbbing pain in his head, Xu Zhou raised his hand: "Tear it open!"
The Ghost Hands immediately lunged at the Flesh Membrane, clawing and tearing viciously. Pfft! The sharp nails pierced straight into the membrane, ripping out chunks of flesh and blood.
The Flesh Membrane writhed as if feeling pain, while the dripping blood increased.
Sun Chengzhi had been sitting on the ground in low spirits. As the blood increased, it kept dripping onto his head. He looked up helplessly and saw the terrifying scene before him.
"Ah!!! A Weird! There's a Weird!"
"A baby, there really is a baby crying! Xiao Li wasn't lying!"
Sun Chengzhi instantly broke down, crying with his face covered in snot and tears.
Ji Wu stood on guard, tense.
When would that baby, which had only been heard until now, show itself?
The Ghost Hands frantically tore at the Flesh Membrane.
The wound grew larger and larger. At this rate, they might actually tear a hole open from inside the Ghost Domain.
"Wah-wah-wah-wah!"
Shua! Shua-shua! The Ghost Infant crawled on top of it, rushing toward them at incredible speed.
It was tiny—much smaller than a newborn baby—looking like it weighed only about two jin, with a severed umbilical cord still hanging from its belly.
Its body was a dark, bluish-black, dripping with murky yellow-green fluid.
It bit and tore at the Ghost Hands with its mouth and poorly developed little hands.
Though it had no teeth, under the Ghost Infant's gnawing, one of the Ghost Hands' fingers was bitten off.
Xu Zhou's face went white. He made a grasping motion, and the Ghost Hands counterattacked under his control.
"Wah-wah!" The Ghost Infant's skin was cut by the Ghost Hands, and it cried out in pain.
The piercing sound made everyone who heard it wince. Ji Wu felt as if his brain had been struck, his ears ringing with a dull buzz, unable to hear anything.
He reached up and touched his ear. The warm, wet sensation told him his ear was bleeding.
"Sonic attack?"
Ji Wu pulled a wad of cotton from his pocket, rolled it into two balls, and stuffed them into his ears.
It wouldn't block much, but it was better than nothing.
Sun Chengzhi covered his ears, writhing in pain on the ground.
Ji Wu drew the gun from his waist. It held twelve bullets made of special material that could harm Weirds. Ammo was scarce—every shot had to hit the Ghost Infant.
The Ghost Infant was locked in combat with the Ghost Hand.
The Ghost Hand had lost three fingers.
The Ghost Infant bore cuts and scratches of all sizes, with a finger-sized hole near its heart—the Ghost Hand had nearly torn open its chest and ripped out its heart.
"Waa! Waa!"
The Ghost Infant's cries grew shriller, while the Ghost Hand kept emitting a grating, grinding screech.
Xu Zhou's face turned paler and paler. Blood streamed from his ears, staining his down jacket red.
He was now completely focused on the Ghost Infant, simultaneously commanding the Ghost Hand to attack it relentlessly.
Almost there!
Just a bit more!
One last push!
Tear it apart! Ghost Hand!
Just as he and the Ghost Infant were about to reach a decisive moment, a scream from behind made him lose focus.
"Ah!"
Sun Chengzhi clutched his stomach, his expression terrified, eyes wide with disbelief. "Save... save me!"
He reached out toward Ji Wu, then his arm fell weakly.
"Giggle giggle! Giggle giggle!"
As he collapsed, a Ghost Infant appeared beside him, letting out a tittering laugh.
This Ghost Infant was somewhat deformed—one of its hands was so small it was nearly invisible, and its head was much larger than its body.
Ji Wu aimed his gun at it. "This is bad. Didn't expect there to be two."
The situation had spiraled far beyond his judgment. Two Weirds—Xu Zhou absolutely couldn't handle that!
Ji Wu took aim at the Ghost Infant and fired.
But the Ghost Infant scurried away at lightning speed, dodging the bullet.
"Giggle giggle giggle~"
The Ghost Infant laughed gleefully. Though it was smaller and had a deformed, incomplete body, its speed far surpassed the other one.
The Ghost Infant scurried toward Ji Wu at breakneck pace.
Ji Wu tried to shoot it back, emptying his magazine. He only landed two hits.
And that was with Ji Wu's excellent marksmanship. Anyone else would have missed every shot.
The Ghost Infant was too fast!
Just tracking its movements was a challenge.
"Xu Zhou, stop attacking the Ghost Infant. Have the Ghost Hand go all out on the Ghost Domain!"
"You hold off the big one."
"Supervisor Ji?" Xu Zhou understood Ji Wu's meaning.
Ji Wu was telling Xu Zhou to abandon him and escape alone.
With the Ghost Hand and the Great Xia Dragon Sparrow Blade, Xu Zhou had a higher survival rate than Ji Wu. He had the best chance of breaking through the Ghost Domain.
If the two of them kept dragging this out, neither would make it out alive.
"Escape. Find Bai Zuo!"
Ji Wu drew a dagger and charged at the Ghost Infant.
