Chapters 1577–1584 Vol. 16 Read

Ch. 1577Only by Swearing Loyalty to the Leader unto Death

Wang Bujian went out to inspect his territory and received the adoration of his subjects. The chapter also described why curing the world’s zombies was unlikely and why Contract Anomalists generally focused on killing them and rebuilding human settlements.

  • The chapter explained that most zombies were long-dead corpses, so a vaccine could not restore them to life.
  • It noted that Contract Anomalists usually killed zombies and gathered survivors to rebuild human civilization rather than cultivate zombies as a new species.
  • Wang Bujian left his villa to inspect his territory after handling official business.
  • The residents saluted and praised Wang Bujian, expressing fervent loyalty to their leader.
  • Wang Bujian accepted a basket of wild strawberries and other wild fruits from one of his subjects.

Ch. 1579Dying in Wang Bujian's Place

Wang Bujian was shot during an attack, and the residents of the Immortal Royal Court rushed to protect him and feared the base would fall if he died. As everyone scrambled to save him, Wang Bujian raised his hand and said he was fine.

  • The patrolmen subdued the attacker, who died after swallowing poison before they could save him.
  • The residents tackled Wang Bujian to shield him after he was shot, then gathered around his wound in fear.
  • People with ill intentions joined the crowd, hoping to obtain blood or genetic material from the first Evolver.
  • Wan Wu heard that Wang Bujian had been attacked and ordered the base locked down, though he realized the sprawling settlement would be difficult to secure.
  • Wang Bujian raised his hand amid the residents’ frantic efforts and told them he was fine.

Ch. 1580He Was Still Too Late

Wang Bujian survived the apparent bullet wound, but the crowd and guards treated him as critically injured and carried him into a villa. Tian Hao arrived too late to help, haunted by the brothers he lost during their escape from the Zombie Tide.

  • Wang Bujian insisted he was fine, but the people around him feared he was about to die and called for a doctor.
  • Tian Hao warned a guard that an assassin had infiltrated the base and urged him to seal off the area.
  • Tian Hao identified himself as a former chief, and the guard ordered the crowd dispersed and nearby people detained.
  • Wang Bujian let the guards carry him away on a stretcher so he could help expose infiltrators in the Immortal Royal Court.
  • Tian Hao watched Wang Bujian being carried into a villa and regretted arriving too late after escaping the Zombie Tide with his surviving brothers.

Ch. 1582A king's achievements befitted a king's station

Han Po and the others rushed back, fearing that Wang Bujian had been killed by an attack. They found him alive and casually eating in bed, leaving them baffled by his apparent recovery from a gunshot to the heart.

  • Han Po and the others hurried back, realizing that Wang Bujian’s human body was vulnerable despite his power to control zombies.
  • Han Po reflected that Wang Bujian wanted to be called king and imagined him leading survivors to defeat the Original Zombies and rebuild civilization.
  • Han Po and the others rushed into the villa and asked how Wang Bujian was doing.
  • Wang Bujian rolled over on a luxurious bed and continued eating, leaving Han Po stunned that he had survived a gunshot to the heart.

Ch. 1583Leader, You're Not Dead!

After an assassin shot Wang Bujian, his followers feared he had died, but he revealed that Ghost Power had protected him and his wound had healed. With the assassin dead and Small Town sealed off, Wan Wu asked whether they should search for whoever had ordered the attack.

  • Han Po, Wei Dong, Wen Kai, Liu Xiangqin, and Captain Chu Xi knelt beside Wang Bujian’s bed and mourned him.

  • Wang Bujian threw a pillow at Wan Wu and glared at him, revealing that he was alive.
  • Wang Bujian explained that Ghost Power had contained the bullet and that his wound had already healed.
  • Wan Wu confirmed that Small Town had been sealed off and asked Wang Bujian whether they should search for the person behind the assassination.

Ch. 1584Someone Who Could Keep Him in Check

Wan Wu worried that ambitious people would try to capture Wang Bujian, and he thought Wang needed someone capable of restraining him when he acted recklessly. After the guards reported that Tian Hao had organized them during the attack, Han Po, Wan Wu, and the others reacted in disbelief.

  • Wan Wu reflected that deathsworn had been ordered to kill Wang Bujian and feared others might exploit or imprison him for his ability.
  • Wan Wu concluded that Wang Bujian needed someone who could stop and persuade him without making decisions for him.
  • Wan Wu asked Wang Bujian who had helped the guards maintain order, but Wang told him to ask Han Po.
  • Han Po admitted he did not know, so Wang summoned a guard to explain what had happened.
  • The guard said the helper was named Tian Hao, prompting Han Po, Wan Wu, and the others to cry out in disbelief.
