Background
Hogwarts Castle was built with ancient magic. Its Sorting Hat has existed since the castle’s founding, and the school historically identified wizards able to wield ancient magic only after they reached approximately fifth-year age. Percival Rackham, Isidora Morganach, and Glen Howard were each invited to Hogwarts as fifth-year transfer students under this practice 28 39 43.
In the 1890s, Glen attended Hogwarts as a fifth-year transfer student. His first arrival involved a dragon attack, Ranrok’s forces, and a guardian statue before he reached the Sorting Ceremony 12. He returned in 1991 as an eleven-year-old first-year, choosing to rejoin Slytherin because of his favorable memories of its earlier students, particularly Sebastian Sallow and Ominis Gaunt 13 14.

Major Incidents
Halloween Troll Incident
During the Halloween feast, Professor Quirrell announces that a troll is in the dungeons before collapsing. Glen is in an underground classroom rather than at the feast when the troll reaches him. 27 28
Harry, Ron, and Hermione rush to help him, but find Glen unharmed and the troll already subdued through a combination of spells, including Wingardium Leviosa. The troll is later found dead. 28 30
