Background / History

Tang Hao and his elder brother Tang Xiao both fell in love with Ah Yin after meeting her outside the Clear Sky Sect. Ah Yin chose Tang Hao, while Tang Xiao withdrew and returned to the sect to avoid interfering with their relationship. 23 29

Shortly after Tang San’s birth, Tang Hao and Ah Yin were pursued by Martial Soul Hall forces led by Pope Qian Xunji. Tang Hao, then a rank 89 Soul Douluo, used his Clear Sky Hammer and Clear Sky True Body to resist Qian Xunji’s Angel’s Glory, but was badly strained by the exchange. 23 24

The Heavenly Curtain later reveals that the infant Tang San died from the battle’s shockwave, after which an otherworldly soul occupied the child’s body. Tang Hao had noticed Tang San’s unusual behavior while raising him and initially treated him harshly, making the child handle household chores. Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls and Innate Full Soul Power eventually convinced Tang Hao to preserve him as a potential weapon of revenge against Martial Soul Hall. 23 24

Ah Yin subsequently sacrificed herself and became Tang Hao’s Hundred-Thousand-Year ninth soul ring. The Heavenly Curtain alleges that Tang Hao deliberately arranged the circumstances of her sacrifice in pursuit of power, a revelation that destroys his standing with Tang Xiao, Tang Yuehua, and the Clear Sky Sect. Martial Soul Hall’s retaliation against Tang Hao also inflicted severe losses on the sect and forced it into seclusion. 28 29 30

Before the Heavenly Curtain exposed Tang San’s circumstances, Tang Hao secretly monitored his son at Notting College. He followed Tang San and Yu Xiaogang into the Soul Hunting Forest, then secretly supplied a Mandala Snake to prevent Tang San from absorbing the Ten-Year Solitary Bamboo Yu Xiaogang had selected. 4

Personality

Tang Hao is calculating and pragmatic. After realizing Tang San had occupied his biological son’s body, he briefly considers killing him, but abandons the idea because Tang San is destined to become a god and may eventually bring him to the God Realm to reunite him with Ah Yin. 33

He is fiercely protective when Tang San’s safety is threatened, acting quickly after the Heavenly Curtain exposes Tang San and Xiao Wu’s location. However, his protection is inseparable from self-interest: he accepts Tang San as a son because of his future value and takes Xiao Wu with them despite her fear that he intends to use her as a soul ring. 31 33 34

The revelations concerning Ah Yin leave Tang Hao enraged and humiliated. He is particularly disturbed that the Heavenly Curtain knows details he believed had been concealed completely. 30 31

Exposure of Tang San’s Origin

The Heavenly Curtain reveals that the real Tang San died as an infant and that another soul seized his body. Tang Hao is devastated by the revelation but ultimately chooses to retain Tang San as his son because of Tang San’s foretold godhood. 23 24 33
