Background

Su Yan is a transmigrator from another world who was raised in Holy Soul Village by Village Chief Old Jack as his adoptive grandfather. His unusual eggshell birthmark foreshadows the egg and altar concealed within his Martial Soul Inner World. 3 7

During the village awakening ceremony, Su Yan publicly presents a Fire Wolf Martial Soul and is recorded as having Level 8 Innate Soul Power, while the testing crystal itself produces the radiance associated with Innate Full Soul Power. His talent brings him to Notting City Martial Soul Hall, where Bibi Dong selects him for a private assessment. 2 4

Bibi Dong subjects him to her death-illusion-based Courage Training Method. Su Yan endures the test until soul-power exhaustion knocks him unconscious, earning acceptance as her third disciple along with a storage belt and Martial Soul Hall training suit. 5

While cultivating under Bibi Dong, Su Yan discovers that the Fire Wolf is not his true Martial Soul. His actual Martial Soul is a vast altar-like Inner World containing five lamp stands, an unhatched egg, red five-pointed stars, and gray orbs linked to other Martial Souls. 6 7 8

Personality

Su Yan is observant, analytical, and unusually composed for his age. He identifies Yue Guan and Ci Xue's staged conflict by noticing that Yue Guan's “blood” was still flowing despite the supposed timing of his injury. 12

He is fiercely loyal to Bibi Dong. Upon learning of the prophecy surrounding her disciples, he rejects attempts to separate them and challenges Yu Xiaogang to settle their dispute at the Junior Soul Master Competition six years later. 11

Despite his tactical mindset, Su Yan consistently intervenes for vulnerable people. He defends a bullied classmate, comforts Zhu Zhuqing while both are imprisoned, rescues Ye Tangtang, and later hides Zhu Zhuqing and Xue Ke from the Star Luo princes. 16 18 21 130

Abilities & Skills

Martial Soul Inner World

Su Yan's true Martial Soul is an altar-like Inner World rather than the Fire Wolf he initially manifests. It contains an egg he calls “Egglet,” five lamp stands, colored Martial Soul gems, gray orbs, and Little Red Stars that illuminate as he gains soul rings. 7 8 27

  • By touching another person, he can sometimes obtain a gray orb containing that person's Martial Soul. 15 25
  • A guarded target may prevent orb acquisition. 25
  • Converting an orb into a usable gem consumes Soul Power and can permanently reduce his cultivation capacity. 8 25
  • He can switch between unlocked Martial Souls, with his single soul ring adapting its skill to the active Martial Soul. 25 26
  • Martial Souls acquired by others after their initial awakening cannot be copied; Yin Fang's Ice Ring does not appear among Su Yan's available orbs. 44
  • The egg communicates through movement: one bounce for yes, two for no, and three for uncertainty. It indicates that it can hatch only after all five altar channels are filled. 7

Fire Wolf

The Fire Wolf is Su Yan's original public-facing beast Martial Soul and remains one of his primary combat forms.

  • First Soul Skill: Wolf Fang Wind Wind Fist — launches rapid flame-coated punches capable of breaking a wooden stake into pieces. 26
  • Third Soul Skill: Fire Wolf Three Mystical Transformations — creates flame armor strong enough to block Yu Tianxin's lightning dragon horns before both defenses shatter. 129
  • Its Soul Power consumption is lower than that of Yu Tianxin's Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, helping Su Yan sustain prolonged exchanges. 129

Blazing Spirit Cat

By activating the Hell Spirit Cat gem, Su Yan manifests the incomplete Blazing Spirit Cat form.

  • Gains orange-red cat ears, fiery pupils, enhanced sight and hearing, padded hands, and near-silent movement. 20
  • Uses the form for stealth, infiltration, rapid movement, and evasive combat. 20 23
  • First Soul Skill: Blazing Flash — dashes as a streak of fire and cleanly cleaves a wooden stake. 26

Dragon-Slaying Blade

A weapon Su Yan purchases for five Gold Soul Coins later recognizes his blood and becomes a Martial Soul. 37 38

  • Its durability lets it withstand repeated clashes with Tang Chi's Thunderclap Hammer. 38
  • First Soul Skill: Dragon Clan Bane — doubles damage against dragons. 129
  • Su Yan uses the blade and three purple soul rings to defeat Yu Tianxin's Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, though the manifested blade crumbles afterward. 129
  • His Mirror Left Arm Bone can duplicate the Dragon-Slaying Blade, allowing him to wield two against Xie Yue's Moon Blades. 171

Martial Soul Fusion Skill: Fire God, Descends

Su Yan and Huo Nishang form a Martial Soul Fusion Skill after their hands touch. Their soul powers merge easily when both commit to the fusion. 53 56

  • Su Yan manifests crimson horns, Huo Nishang's giant axe, and powerful flames; Bibi Dong judges the fusion's pressure comparable to a Level 30 Soul Elder. 56
  • The fusion produces the Flame of Life, a pale-green fire capable of causing grass to grow on barren ground. 56
  • It can create an immense inferno that melts much of a Soul Battle Platform, but consumes Soul Power extremely quickly. 101
  • Fire God's Law is prepared as a final large-scale attack, though it is interrupted before completion. 101
  • Huo Nishang can enhance the form with Sky Dying Will Flame, allowing Su Yan to enter a destructive Kakuja state; keeping Huo Nishang irrational for over three minutes risks leaving her permanently unconscious. 166

Ghoul and Spider Forms

Su Yan can manifest unusual forms connected to ghoul and spider power.

  • Uses a Netherflame Spider Emperor form while fighting the Hollow in Jingzhou. 90
  • Enters a Kakuja form enhanced by Huo Nishang's Sky Dying Will Flame, overpowering Tang San and badly damaging the Soul Battle Platform. 166
  • He deliberately refuses to absorb a Shell Core himself, fearing that becoming a ghoul would make ordinary food intolerable. 44

Yi Jin Jing

Bibi Dong teaches Su Yan the Yi Jin Jing energy-circulation method during survival training. 28

  • Reduces fatigue and smooths his meridians after only two cycles. 28
  • Produces condensed, efficient Soul Power that Su Yan can use as a protective aura or shape into hand-to-hand techniques. 101
  • Allows him to refine the Fire Wolf's fixed Wolf Fang Wind Wind Fist into more variable self-created applications. 86

Blue-Eyes White Dragon Card

Su Yan obtains a Blue-Eyes White Dragon card from Lord Xiao's collection. 27

  • The card can summon the Blue-Eyes White Dragon when supplied with all of Su Yan and his companions' Soul Power. 30
  • The dragon defeats the gaunt man and saves Xue Ke. 30
  • Following its first use, the card is left without enough stored Soul Power to answer Su Yan's later attempts to activate it. 35

Fire Spirit Pearl

After Huo Nishang sacrifices herself to subdue the Fire Maiden, Su Yan becomes connected to the Fire Spirit Pearl and its artifact spirit, Wang Hailong. 209 210

  • The pearl floods Su Yan with fire energy, greatly condensing his Soul Power during cultivation. 210
  • Its influence can send him into a frenzied state; in one such episode, he kills a fire-type Soul Ancestor with ease. 209
  • Wang Hailong agrees to teach Su Yan cultivation beyond the limitations of the Soul Master rank. 210

  • Martial Soul Hall training suit — elastic clothing designed not to burst during Martial Soul Possession. 5
