Background / History

The mysterious Forbidden Land appeared as a planetary fragment that drifted into Blue Star's space three years prior to its public descent 627 628. Major powers secretly launched probes and satellites to explore it, losing all contact, until a radio signal reached Blue Star in which an unknown lifeform attempted communication and warned of an impending invasion by interdimensional creatures 627 628. The Lighthouse Nation subsequently proposed the rules governing the Forbidden Land with the goal of reducing overpopulation if necessary 2 628.

When the Forbidden Land officially descended upon the world, one candidate was randomly selected from nations across Blue Star every seven days to explore it 1 381. Resources obtained within its borders manifest in the real world, but a candidate's death results in one million (or ten million, depending on scaling/reports) of their country's population being randomly eliminated 1 14 683. Although framed as a competitive survival test, its true purpose is to serve as a crucible to drive human evolution and temper elites so they can combat otherworldly void and interdimensional threats 349 538.
