Ch. 41Nirvana Successful

Lucky defended the ritual site for hours as desert creatures swarmed the island, while Tina and the examinees watched his strength. Phoenix completed its rebirth at the Oak Tree, restoring the island’s aura and ending the creatures’ assault.

  • Lucky unleashed Vacuum Slashes, cutting down trees and large desert creatures as the examinees abandoned their resistance and moved toward the island.
  • Tina fought until exhaustion forced her to retreat to the island’s center, while Lucky continued attacking without showing signs of fatigue.
  • Lucky held off the creatures for another hour and a half as their corpses filled the lake and Phoenix’s ritual continued.
  • The Oak Tree erupted in flames, Phoenix emerged reborn with golden fire, and its flight spread sparks across the Oasis.
  • The Oak Tree’s aura became visible and restored Tina’s Nen, while Phoenix’s flames burned the corpses and caused the distant desert creatures to return to normal.

Ch. 42A New Ability

Lucky discovered that Phoenix’s interaction with the Oak Tree had created a new ability, Contract, and left the island to study its powers. After the Hunter Association’s airship arrived, Tina returned to the oasis to investigate while the examinees waited with Tommy.

  • Lucky sensed that Phoenix and his Nen had grown stronger, and he gained the Contract ability through Phoenix’s connection with the Oak Tree.
  • Tina ordered the examinees to leave the island, and the Oak Tree gave Lucky a vital Acorn in thanks for helping Lord Oak God.
  • Lucky explained little to Lucy, Wesley, and the other examinees, then studied how Contract could mark people, help them learn Nen, lend them Nen, and let him teleport to them.
  • An airship bearing the Hunter Association’s emblem arrived at dawn, and the bespectacled Tommy asked Tina what had happened at the Oasis of God.
  • Tina refused to explain and returned to the oasis, leaving Tommy with the examinees.

Ch. 43Second Exam

Lucky and the other examinees faced Tommy Soren’s second Hunter Exam, a written test based on the books in Stockton Library. After three days of preparation, the examinees gathered for a six-hour open-book exam, with scholars and other helpers allowed to assist them.

  • Tommy Soren announced that examinees had three days to study the library’s books and would need twenty points out of one hundred to pass.
  • Lucky used his Dreamscape ability to search his memories as he rapidly read through books.
  • Tonpa proposed that the examinees divide up the reading, seek help from library scholars, and explore other ways to obtain answers.
  • Lucky chose not to join the group and planned to rely on his own preparation or copy answers during the test.
  • After three days, Tommy Soren brought the examinees to the library for a six-hour open-book test with one hundred fill-in-the-blank questions.

Ch. 44Tonpa Eliminated

Lucky answered 53 questions and passed Tommy Soren’s library exam in less than half an hour, then stayed to read about an ancient island kingdom and Divine Script. The exam ended with 176 other candidates passing, while Tonpa was eliminated after Lautoka switched their papers.

  • Tommy Soren gave the candidates a timed test that required them to search his library for answers.
  • Lucky rapidly found and answered 53 questions, submitted his paper early, and passed.
  • Lucky stayed in the library and found references to Divine Script in books about an ancient island kingdom.
  • The candidates submitted their papers, and 176 candidates besides Lucky passed the exam.
  • Tonpa discovered that Lautoka had switched their papers, leaving Tonpa with a failing paper while the rest of their group passed.
  • Lautoka told Tonpa that he had targeted him because Tonpa bragged about having taken the Hunter Exam many times.

Ch. 45The Third Exam

After the second exam, Lucky and the other successful examinees reached Bremen Forest for Husum’s third exam: collecting Blood Jade Bee honey within seven days. Lucky entered the forest at an easy pace, considering the honey’s value and letting Phoenix fly off to explore, but found no hives nearby.

  • Tommy took the successful examinees by airship to the wilderness, where Husum greeted them at the edge of Bremen Forest.
  • Husum announced that examinees had seven days to bring him Blood Jade Bee honey and warned them to stay out of the dangerous Bremen Mountains.
  • The examinees rushed into the forest, while Lucky used Dreamscape’s search ability to learn about the valuable honey.
  • Lucky traveled through the trees and released Phoenix, which excitedly flew away to explore.
  • Lucky surveyed the forest and found no Blood Jade Bee hives nearby.

Ch. 46Blood Jade Bees

Lucky found a Blood Jade Bee hive in Bremen Forest and watched a Brown Bear fight the bees as the Queen Bee tried to move the hive. When examinees arrived, the Brown Bear began destroying the hive, forcing them to intervene.

  • Lucky searched Bremen Forest for Blood Jade Bees, killing a giant python and other attacking beasts along the way.
  • Lucky found a massive hive where Blood Jade Bees were fighting a giant Brown Bear, and he concealed himself with Zetsu to observe.
  • The Queen Bee emerged and organized the swarm, while Lucky sensed that other examinees were approaching.
  • The Blood Jade Bees gathered around the hive and attempted to carry it away, but the Brown Bear charged and shattered part of the hive.
  • Examinee 88 Ivey, Examinee 89 Nante, and Examinee 101 Wesley reached the battlefield and decided they had to stop the Brown Bear.

Ch. 47The Secret of the Blood Jade Bees

Lucky passed the exam in under three hours and learned that the Blood Jade Bees flew into the dangerous Bremen Mountains to reach a vast basin filled with red plants. Through Phoenix's vision, he discovered enormous hives surrounding the basin as the bees fought spiders over the territory.

  • The Blood Jade Bee Queen led its swarm away from Brown Bear and flew toward the Bremen Mountains, while Lucky followed them with Phoenix.
  • Lucky collected honey from a hive and left the forest, becoming the first examinee to pass; he gave his honey reward to Husum.
  • Husum warned Lucky that the Bremen Mountains were dangerous and refused to explain what the Blood Jade Bees gathered there.
  • As the swarm crossed the mountains, birds, chameleons, and spiders attacked it until only the Queen Bee remained near a group of huge spiders.
  • Phoenix flew toward a disturbance and saw Blood Jade Bees fighting spiders beside a hive over ten meters tall on a cliff.
  • Lucky saw that a crimson basin below the cliff was filled with red plants and surrounded by several enormous hives.

Ch. 48Blood Orchid in the Mountains

Lucky controlled the Blood Jade Bee Queen, discovered a Blood Orchid growing inside a hive, and brought one to Examiner Husum to learn about it. Husum recognized the rare flower and returned after processing it with some items, leaving Lucky waiting to learn what he had prepared.

  • Lucky hypnotized the Blood Jade Bee Queen with his Sharingan, stopping the bees from attacking him, while Phoenix used Spatial Teleportation to retrieve a Blood Orchid from the basin.
  • Lucky found another Blood Orchid growing in the center of a hive, then asked Phoenix to investigate the mountain range while he took the flower to Husum.
  • Lucky passed the Brown Bear’s battlefield, where the bear was eating honey beside the corpses of several examinees, and returned to Husum.
  • Husum recognized Lucky’s flower as a Blood Orchid and agreed to explain it in exchange for the flower.
  • Husum took the Blood Orchid away to process it, and Lucky hunted and roasted meat while he waited; Husum later returned with some things.

Ch. 49Husum Explains

Husum explained the Blood Orchid, the Blood Jade Bees, and the dangers of the Bremen Mountains to Lucky. After the seven-day forest test, thirty-seven candidates passed and learned that the next test would be the final exam.

  • Husum told Lucky that the Blood Orchid was believed to extend life, preserve youth, and possibly cause evolution, while the Blood Jade Bees' changes might have come from it.
  • Husum explained that Blood Orchids were difficult to reach, that hive-grown flowers degenerated into Blood Jade Orchids, and that the forest bees generally did not attack humans.
  • Lucky used Phoenix to scout the mountains and found dangerous creatures, beings with Nen, and what appeared to be ancient ruins.
  • Candidates continued passing or withdrawing from the forest test, and by the end of the seventh day only thirty-seven had passed while more than fifty had failed or given up.
  • The Hunter Association's airship prepared to take the successful candidates to the next test, which was announced as the final exam.

Ch. 50Unexpected Turn, Final Exam

After the fourth-round examiner Berudo died from a ruin-related Post-Mortem Nen curse, the Hunter Exam skipped that round and proceeded to the final exam under Netero. Netero set a hotel-based Number Plate test with only three passing slots, and the examinees learned that special plates could alter the competition.

  • Husum asked Tommy why the exam had moved straight to the final round, and Tommy explained that Berudo had died after being attacked by Post-Mortem Nen connected to ruins.
  • Tommy and Husum concluded that Berudo had likely encountered a curse, leaving the Hunter Association with no time to appoint a replacement examiner.
  • Netero arrived at the hotel and announced that the fourth round had been canceled and the final exam would begin.
  • Netero spoke with Lucky, who revealed that he wanted a Hunter License so he could travel and continue developing his martial arts.
  • Netero set the final exam in the hotel: examinees needed seven corresponding Number Plates, but no more than three could pass.
  • Netero explained that examinees could not attack one another or steal plates, and that special plates could enable trading, eliminate an examinee, or protect someone from elimination.

Ch. 51Exam Rules

Lucky began the final Hunter Exam, where examinees had to collect Number Plates until three qualified candidates emerged. He searched the hotel while secretly influencing rivals to delay using elimination plates, and the contest continued with his own qualification uncertain.

  • Netero explained that the exam would continue until three candidates qualified or all special Number Plates were used, and that eliminated examinees would lose every plate they had collected.
  • The examinees decided to cooperate against Lucky, and Wesley urged them to use elimination plates without hesitation while telling them about Lucky's accomplishments.
  • Lucky searched the hotel with En and the Sharingan, recruited hotel staff to help, and found an examinee's Number Plate that was not his own.
  • An examinee found a special elimination Number Plate, but Lucky's planted suggestion made him pause to check the lobby before using it.
  • Other examinees also hesitated to confirm their plate status before acting, while Lucky treated the exam as a game and kept searching.

Ch. 52Passing the Exam

Lucky became the first examinee to pass by collecting and trading Number Plates, then waited for his promised spar with Netero. Wesley and Examinee 12 also passed, received their Hunter Licenses, and heard how they could learn Nen.

  • Lucky passed first by trading Number Plates with other examinees, and Netero hinted that he had noticed something about Lucky.
  • Wesley advanced with help from four companions, while Examinee 12 passed using the Number Plates Lucky had left behind.
  • Beans explained Hunter matters to the new Hunters, but Wesley asked to be taught Nen.
  • Lucky told Wesley and Lucy that registering on the Heavenly Arena’s 200th Floor would lead to Nen instruction, then prepared to meet Netero in the wilderness.

Ch. 53Experiencing the Hundred-Type Guanyin

Lucky challenged Netero to test his Six Styles and Sharingan against the Hundred-Type Guanyin. After Netero repeatedly sent him flying, Lucky retreated and used Paper Art with En to sense the wind and move with it.

  • Netero asked Lucky to demonstrate the swordsmanship Tina had mentioned, and Lucky requested guidance as he prepared to test his new techniques.
  • Lucky revealed his Three-Tomoe Sharingan and launched a Nen-infused Tempest Kick at Netero.
  • Lucky used the Sharingan to anticipate the Hundred-Type Guanyin's early attacks and Soru to keep pace, but Netero knocked him away at the thirty-fifth form.
  • Lucky endured the barrage with Iron Body, used Moonwalk to charge back at Netero, and was struck away again after trying to combine Moonwalk with Paper Art.
  • Lucky retreated from Netero, then landed, entered the Paper Art state, and spread En to sense the wind and move with it.

Ch. 54Each Man's Gains and Luck

Lucky sparred with Netero to improve his Paper Art, then taught him the Six Styles. Netero began exploring how the techniques could expand his martial arts and develop a new approach to training Nen inside the body.

  • Lucky repeatedly faced Netero's Hundred-Type Guanyin and improved his ability to sense the wind and dodge, eventually evading seventeen consecutive forms.
  • Netero asked Lucky about his techniques, and Lucky explained the Six Styles to him.
  • Netero recognized the Six Styles' potential and began practicing them, mastering Moonwalk and considering new uses for the other techniques.
  • Netero experimented with Iron Body and Internal Vision, then circulated aura through his blood vessels while avoiding his internal organs.

Ch. 55Evil Experiments, Returning to Keli City

Lucky trained with Netero, studied the human body, and experimented with Nen on animals and criminals before returning to Keli City for Heavenly Arena duties. He began considering how to develop a teleportation ability that could let him return to the arena quickly.

  • Lucky used Nen to clear blockages and hidden injuries, and Netero praised their training method while warning him not to spread it casually.
  • After Netero left, Lucky studied medicine and the human body in the city’s library and tested whether his Nen could help animals train, but the subjects died.
  • Lucky began targeting criminals in disguise as a hero, conducting Nen experiments on them until a Mafia family’s attention forced him to stop.
  • After staying in the city for over a month, Lucky received a call from the Heavenly Arena and learned that someone had challenged him.
  • Lucky failed to teleport directly to Keli City because he lacked enough Nen, so he took an airship and considered learning the Divine Script technique associated with Greed Island’s travel system.

Ch. 56Divine Script Study and Application

Lucky returned to Keli City and studied Divine Script while preparing for his promoted match against Dominic. He discussed ways to apply Divine Script to training and the Heavenly Arena, then wondered what would happen if he tattooed it onto his skin.

  • Lucky returned to the Heavenly Arena, where Biscuit had become the Floor Master of the 212th Floor and his match against Dominic was being promoted.
  • Lucky continued Nen training and began learning Divine Script, studying its defensive, enhancement, Zetsu, and communication applications.
  • Lucky learned that the Heavenly Arena used Divine Script to protect battle areas and enhance weapons, and he planned to prepare a weapon for himself.
  • After tickets for Lucky's match sold out, Biscuit asked him for a seat, and Lucky explained that Floor Masters had reserved seats.
  • Lucky demonstrated his Divine Script-enhanced cloth training to Biscuit, discussed the lack of researchers and the need for gravity-based training, then asked about tattooing Divine Script onto his skin.

Ch. 57Match Day

Lucky faced Dominic in his fourth Floor Master challenge, while spectators and Floor Masters discussed Dominic’s preparations and the difficulty of countering Lucky’s abilities. The contestants entered the arena, and the match was about to begin.

  • Master Woz praised Lucky’s talent while explaining Dominic’s earlier losses and claiming his junior brother was now well prepared.
  • Floor Masters discussed Dominic’s Divine Script weapons and debated how different Nen users could counter Lucky’s flying and Sharingan abilities.
  • Biscuit bet on Lucky and planned to spar with him after the match to learn more about his eye-based ability.
  • Lucky and Dominic entered from opposite sides, and Dominic declared that he would defeat Lucky and claim the top-floor title.
  • The referees confirmed that both contestants were ready, and the battle was about to erupt.

Ch. 58Battle Begins, Multiple Abilities

Lucky faced Dominic in a Heavenly Arena battle as Dominic combined Phantom Afterimage Fist with Nen-powered clones. Lucky countered with Phoenix, a flaming Nen whip, and attacks from the ground, but Dominic’s clones surrounded him and unleashed a barrage of Qigong Cannons.

  • Dominic opened with Phantom Afterimage Fist, sending illusions and Air-Splitting Palms toward Lucky.
  • Lucky summoned Phoenix, dodged the attacks, and used a flaming Nen whip to break the afterimages.
  • Dominic turned the afterimages into Nen-powered clones, and Lucky attacked him with Nen strikes from the ground.
  • Lucky’s whip changed into a Nen sword as the Floor Masters discussed his rapidly expanding techniques and Dominic’s improved clones.
  • Dominic’s clones closed in, fired Qigong Cannons, and took positions around Lucky in a formation.

Ch. 59Martial Arts Nen Ability

Lucky battled Dominic’s Nen-powered Phantom Fist clones, using flight, arrows, flames, and a whip to overcome their numbers. Dominic landed a point by exploiting his layered clones, and the Floor Masters realized his ability combined multiple Phantom Fist techniques into coordinated attacks.

  • Dominic sent clones strengthened by Nen bullets to attack Lucky, who recognized that these clones had powerful physical bodies and unusual responses.
  • Lucky took to the air and fired Nen arrows, then used Phoenix’s flames and his Flame Whip to attack the growing group of clones.
  • Dominic’s special Nen slash pierced Lucky’s whips, allowing the real Dominic to strike him and score a point while the clones targeted Phoenix.
  • The Floor Masters explained that Phantom Fist combined multiple animal-based fist techniques, and that Dominic’s Nen ability layered different techniques through overlapping clones.

Ch. 60Why Lucky Was So Powerful

Lucky and Dominic exchanged increasingly elaborate attacks as Dominic tried to capture Phoenix and find an opening in Lucky’s defenses. Lucky burned away Dominic’s clones, but Dominic survived and prepared another attack, leaving the battle unresolved.

  • Dominic shifted his attacks to Phoenix, hoping to disable Lucky’s powerful Nen Beast and expose a weakness.
  • Lucky unleashed Phoenix Sage Fire while Dominic’s clones formed a Nen net around Phoenix.
  • Lucky recalled Phoenix into his body and covered the arena with a Nen-amplified sea of flames, destroying the clones.
  • Lucky identified the remaining figure as Dominic, but his Sharingan’s genjutsu had no effect, and Dominic’s Nen protected him from the fire.
  • Dominic praised Lucky’s enormous Nen reserves, then began another move as three increasingly large afterimages appeared behind him.
