Background / History

Natsu originally lived with his parents and older brother, Zeref, four hundred years before the present era. A dragon attack killed his parents and Natsu; unable to accept his brother’s death, Zeref eventually revived him through black magic. The revived Natsu became both human and the demon E.N.D. 259

Zeref entrusted Natsu to Igneel, the Fire Dragon King, so that he could learn Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. Zeref, Igneel, Anna, and four other dragons later used the Eclipse Gate to send Natsu and four other dragon-raised children four hundred years into the future as part of the plan against Acnologia. 212 259

Igneel accidentally caused Natsu’s childhood amnesia while restraining him. In X777, Makarov found the cherry-haired child in a forest searching for Igneel; Natsu later joined Fairy Tail before Erza did. 33 95 259

Natsu learns that Zeref is his older brother on Tenrou Island. Although shaken by his history as a demon from four centuries ago, he ultimately rejects the idea that his past defines him and identifies himself as a Fairy Tail wizard first. 258 260

Igneel remains within Natsu through the Soul Dragon Technique. Atlas Flame, Igneel’s close friend, later joins him as a second dragon consciousness, granting Natsu access to Hellfire. 138 165 172

Natsu is intensely battle-driven and impulsive. He eagerly challenges strong opponents, frequently starts fights with Gray, and has a habit of charging ahead before considering the consequences. Despite his recklessness, Natsu has sharp combat instincts. He adapts quickly when magic is ineffective, switching to close-quarters combat against Boss’s magic-suppressing curse and learning to interrupt opponents while they are casting. 91 147
