Bai Yang did not care what the people in the base thought.

An Zhengxin's guess had been right. Bai Yang did have some thoughts of fishing for them, deliberately luring them in.

He wasn't the type to swallow his pride and endure when dealing with people who coveted his wealth.

Since that was the case, he might as well take care of them all at once and put his plan into action while he was at it.

Not long after leaving the base, he used the military map provided by Mount Hua and took a fork in the road.

Taking the highway as usual, it would normally take two days to reach Magic City and a day and a half to get to Kunshan.

But the route Bai Yang had chosen was much harder to travel. Ordinary warriors would never take it unless they had some other purpose.

The journey would take at least two or three times longer. As for its advantages...

Perhaps the only one was that, since nobody had traveled it for so long, monsters were more densely packed here than along the main roads.

The midday sun beat down on him, but it had no effect whatsoever.

Soon, in a field overgrown with weeds, he spotted a group of monsters lying down to rest.

He took the modified Spirit Energy Meter, a piece of equipment he had acquired from the Spirit World, out of his pocket.

As the little spiritual energy in his body was used up, the compass needle in his hand instantly pointed toward the monsters.

One of the needles trembled slightly. The creatures ahead were several Unicorn Wild Boars at the Advanced Warrior level.

Bai Yang memorized the needle's range of movement so he could use it to gauge the strength of future targets.

These monsters were barely stronger than the Iron-Haired Wild Boars in Monster Town. He couldn't be bothered absorbing the genes of such worthless creatures.

But although he couldn't be bothered with them, the monsters had no intention of letting him go.

Bai Yang had only lingered nearby a little longer to run a test, but that was enough to anger them.

Soon, six large and seventeen small Iron-Haired Wild Boars—twenty-three in all—charged at him, bristling with rage.

A group of this size could already threaten a Junior War General.

Bai Yang frowned slightly. He didn't want to get blood on his blade. He couldn't be bothered cleaning it.

Reaching behind himself with his right hand, he pulled the Mount Hua Sword from its bag and swung it at them, scabbard and all.

He was far faster than the beasts. A fine sword was reduced to a metal cudgel in his hands.

The sword's tip swept out in a half circle, catching all twenty-three monsters within its arc.

With effortless ease, he lightly tapped the horn on each boar's head.

In the space of a second, every Unicorn Wild Boar was dead.

Through the sword, Bai Yang sent a burst of hidden force into their bodies, shattering their brains.

Yet there wasn't a single visible mark on them.

"I've already killed them, so I might as well give it a try."

Bai Yang pressed his hand against the largest boar. A mouth-shaped opening formed in his palm, and he began devouring its flesh.

"These genes really are useless. What a waste of time. Maybe monsters at the Intermediate War General level will be worth something.

"But I can absorb their flesh and blood, at least. That should increase my level of monster transformation a little."

He suddenly unleashed the full force of his ability. In just two minutes, he had devoured the entire boar, which had been at the Advanced Warrior level, leaving behind only its hide.

Bai Yang simply walked a little farther and devoured the other five adult Unicorn Wild Boars, each two to three meters tall.

After absorbing so much flesh and blood, his appearance and weight hadn't changed at all. He had no idea where it had gone.

It really was better to kill big monsters. Eating small ones was too inefficient.

Bai Yang ignored the corpses of the seventeen piglets and continued on his way.

With his spiritual energy, he could use the Spirit Energy Meter about once every half hour.

Its range wasn't very wide, either—only about one or two kilometers.

He tested it repeatedly throughout the afternoon and confirmed its range.

Even so, he was much more efficient at killing monsters than ordinary people.

After the Unicorn Wild Boars, Bai Yang killed and devoured many monsters at or above the Advanced Warrior level.

By dusk, he finally had a breakthrough with their genes.

"The Ghost Shadow Cat's genes are useful!"

The monster was only at the Advanced Warrior level, but its ability to accelerate and change direction in the blink of an eye, almost without being affected by inertia, had left a deep impression on Bai Yang.

The ability came from its bones, which combined exceptional toughness and elasticity with great strength.

Bai Yang naturally welcomed such a useful trait.

He sat down and made a few adjustments. His monster-transformed body underwent a minor skeletal refinement.

Based on his estimates, once he reached the Primary War God level and absorbed enough flesh and blood,

his Monster King body would reach its first stage, standing six meters tall.

From then on, he would be able to switch between his human body and the gigantic body of Monster King Orochi.

Orochi's body had six stages of height: six meters, twelve meters, twenty-seven meters, fifty-six meters, one hundred meters, and three hundred meters.

To protect Earth and earn the system's reward,

he didn't mind having a monster battle with the Golden Horned Behemoth when it attacked Earth.

It would be even better if he could devour some of its flesh while he was at it.

At any rate, he would never stand by and let it kill more than five million people in Huaxia.

After finishing his evolution and rest, Bai Yang took out the Spirit Energy Meter again and began scanning the area.

This time, the compass behaved strangely. One needle kept changing direction, and there were more than thirty targets!

Judging by the needle's movement, a group of Advanced War Generals seemed to be within about a kilometer of him, gradually surrounding him.

"They finally came!" Bai Yang sneered inwardly.

This was the Wilderness Zone, not the center of Magic City!

Where else could so many Advanced War General monsters have come from?

Of course, they were the people who had gone to all this trouble to find him!

One direction in particular, where the Spirit Energy Meter pointed, had a needle whose range of movement was greater than anything he had ever seen!

"Most likely a War God has come looking for me. That's fine. I want to see how much I've improved, too."

Bai Yang put out his torch and cleared away the traces of his rest.

Then he picked a direction and headed toward the group of Advanced War Generals.

His movements were extraordinary—swift and light.

He soon spotted a six-person squad spread out in a fan-shaped formation.

They were slowly approaching the spot where he had been.

After observing them briefly, Bai Yang judged that they were probably four Advanced War Generals and two Intermediate War Generals, though he couldn't be certain.

"It'd be nice to have an Auxiliary Optical Computer to scan enemies at close range. Still, it won't make much difference for now."

He naturally didn't take opponents at this level seriously.

By then, dusk had fallen.

Bai Yang silently leaped several times and landed lightly behind one of them.

He tapped the man's shoulder. Before the man could even turn around, the Mist Shadow Splitting Technique suddenly kicked in!

Bai Yang slammed a fist into the back of his head, knocking him completely unconscious.

Whether they were Intermediate or Advanced War Generals, it made no difference against his fist.

Bai Yang caught the man and slowly lowered him to the ground without making a sound.

Then his palm twisted again, producing a brand-new Monster Cell. He immediately shoved it into the man's mouth.

A moment later, Bai Yang felt his mind grow heavy. It seemed he could access an additional set of memories.
