Fang Linyan read the explanation and felt a powerful urge to curse. He was obviously nothing but an ordinary rookie, and this was his very first adventure. How could he possibly be judged strong enough to steamroll everyone else?
Was there any justice in this? Any law?
But people were irrational creatures. Even as Fang Linyan seethed, it never occurred to him to consider how the now-dead Fang felt.
Wasn't the guy aggrieved? Wasn't he heartbroken?
He probably had a whole lot of shit he wanted to say, too. Having his head unexpectedly taken from him, he must have died with his eyes wide open!
While Fang Linyan was distracted, the remaining terrorist began gasping hoarsely. He turned and glared red-eyed at a woman nearby who was screaming, then took a step forward and slammed a heavy punch square into her face!
The woman's scream cut off at once. The blow knocked her to the ground, sending her skidding two or three meters down the aisle before she passed out. Her face quickly swelled, and blood soon spread across the floor.
The cabin descended into even greater chaos. But when people saw that the terrorist was unarmed, a burly man immediately stepped forward. He rushed in and landed a hard uppercut on the terrorist's chin.
In the burly man's mind, his opponent would stagger backward, giving him the perfect chance to charge in with a knee strike and finish him off with a knockout.
But the cruel truth was that the terrorist's head merely tilted back a little when the punch landed. More importantly, the burly man felt as if he hadn't hit a chin at all, but a heavy sandbag. His strength seemed to sink into a sea of mud, accomplishing nothing.
Once the terrorist's head tilted back, his face came into view. Beneath his skin, what looked like earthworms writhed and twisted. His complexion gradually turned pale, and a web of blood vessels appeared beneath it, while faint wisps of black mist seeped from his body.
His rotting mouth let out a demonic roar, revealing ghastly white teeth. The muscles beneath his new suit bulged and swelled until they finally burst through the fabric.
His swollen muscles were crisscrossed with veins, all of them a strange purplish black, as if some kind of drug had been forcibly injected into him. In several places, the muscles broke through his skin, exposing raw, crimson flesh. The sight was grotesque and terrifying.
The terrorist had become a terrifying Mutant. With a single punch, he sent the burly man flying into the cabin wall, leaving blood streaming down his face.
The heavy blow had struck only his cheekbone, yet it had also devastated the man's nose and entire jaw. His cheekbone was crushed and caved in, and his jawbone had shattered cleanly into three or four pieces. Broken, pained groans escaped his mouth, along with a stream of blood.
The people around them were stunned by the terrifying scene. They were all overcome with fear: some screamed and scattered in every direction, some huddled trembling beneath their seats, and others clung to their loved ones and prayed without stopping.
The Mutant strode forward, grabbed the half-conscious burly man, and sank its teeth into his throat. Its Adam's apple bobbed rapidly as it greedily sucked down his blood. The man's eyes were wide open, but he couldn't fight back. At last, his legs kicked once, and he died in agony.
At that moment, Fang Linyan received a notification:
"A passenger has died. 30% completion deducted."
When he saw the notification, Fang Linyan nearly spat up blood. He had racked his brains to raise his completion rate, hoping to achieve something like zero casualties, and yet that dream had shattered after only a few minutes! Seeing that the Mutant was about to attack the other passengers, Fang Linyan gritted his teeth, grabbed the barely alive terrorist beside him, and shouted at the monster:
"Idiot! Over here!"
The Mutant turned its head and saw its companion being dragged around like a dead dog. Then it saw Fang Linyan's face. In that instant, the last shred of its reason drove it to let out a furious roar. It raised its head, stepped over the bloodied corpses on the floor, and strode toward him.
Wherever the monster went, the corpses beneath its feet were crushed, sending flesh and blood flying. It clearly put tremendous weight into every step; the entire plane shuddered and rocked beneath its feet as if it had hit turbulence. The full extent of its strength was plain to see.
The cabin was now filled with the thick stench of blood, along with a strange, rotten smell emanating from the demon. Those odors mixed with the smells of all the drinks spilled across the floor.
The survivors still in the cabin clamped their hands over their mouths, terrified that even the slightest sound might draw the monsters' attention. Some were on the verge of vomiting, yet they fought the reflex, forcing the contents rising in their throats back down.
Seeing this, Fang Linyan didn't hesitate. He raised his crossbow and fired. The modified bolt hit the Mutant squarely in the shoulder, but the creature only shuddered slightly. Worse, the bolt had penetrated only halfway, with a long section still sticking out. The Mutant's muscles contracted, squeezed the bolt, and forced it right out.
Other people might not have known, but Fang Linyan had confidence in the crossbow he had built himself. He had calculated and tested the bolts' power, and they were no weaker than ordinary pistol bullets. In other words, the Mutant's defenses were astonishing. Ordinary pistol rounds would have a hard time penetrating its hide.
In these circumstances, trying to fight such a freak in close combat would be suicide. What was more, Fang Linyan had coated the bolts with poison. Based on tests on several terrorists earlier, the poison worked extremely well. Yet the Mutant remained unmoved, suggesting that even its pain nerves had been completely severed.
As the creature closed in, the distance between them dwindling to only a few meters, Fang Linyan said no more. He simply released the Blood Spider! This time, it finally worked. The pain the Blood Spider inflicted was caused by black magic acting directly on the soul. So even if the Test Subject's pain nerves had been altered, it made no difference.
As soon as the Blood Spider pounced onto the Mutant, its eyes flew wide open and it let out an incredibly hoarse howl. It clutched its head and dropped to its knees in agony, even smashing its head again and again against the steel frame beside it. After only a few blows, its head was a bloody mess, and even the steel frame had warped and twisted.
