It was no wonder Jiang Wang was so surprised.
Cui Zhu had managed to reach the Imperial Ancestral Temple and hurl that spear at the Qi Emperor. No ordinary faction could have pulled that off.
Take Hell's Gate, for example. It was now a renowned assassin organization in the Eastern Domain, but not a single Yama could get anywhere near the Qi Emperor.
Forget assassinating him; they wouldn't even get the chance to approach him.
Only a faction with deep roots in Qi, cultivated over many years, could possibly manage something like this.
Once a faction of this kind made its move, it would surely have planned everything from beginning to end. It wouldn't leave behind any obvious traces that could be caught so quickly—if it were that simple, Cui Zhu would have been thrown into the Northern Office's prison long ago.
"Not that I know of." Chongxuan Sheng shook his head. "Even if there has been progress, the Northern Office won't leak a word until there's a definite breakthrough. This is the kind of matter that can cost people their heads."
Jiang Wang was baffled. "Then what did you want to talk about?"
"Let me ask you something." Chongxuan Sheng's expression turned serious. "Before today, had you ever met Cui Zhu?"
"Where would I have met him?" Jiang Wang shook his head. "I didn't even know his name until I attended the Grand Master Ceremony this time."
Chongxuan Sheng breathed a sigh of relief. "If you're sure of that, then there's no problem. Otherwise, I'd be worried someone might make an issue of Cui Zhu turning back to speak to you before he died."
Jiang Wang didn't ask why anyone would make an issue of it.
Perhaps he had gotten in someone's way, or perhaps it was simply jealousy.
