To the eyes of the Uchiha, that white trail of death was no longer a mere flash of light, but a soul-reaping phantom! Silent, swift, and eerie, it carried the immense life energy unique to the Senju clan and a frigid killing intent, stabbing straight toward Uchiha Madara, who had left his guard wide open to save his father!
Time seemed to freeze in this very moment.
Uchiha Tajima's eyes were bursting with rage, yet due to his severe wounds and the exertion of his earlier outburst, he could not move to intervene. Izuna's cry of alarm was swallowed by the roar of the explosion. The other Uchiha ninja were caught completely off guard by the rapid succession of events unfolding in the blink of an eye.
Only Uchiha Sou, his Double Tomoe Sharingan locked onto that ghostly trail, felt his brain racing at an overclocked speed. He could "see" the trajectory, yet he was utterly unable to keep up with its velocity, forced to watch helplessly as death closed in on the brother he currently revered and feared most.
Just at this critical juncture—
"Ughhh—!!!"
A roar, not of pain, but filled with extreme fury and hatred, erupted from the depths of Uchiha Madara's throat!
The poisoned kunai was still embedded in his shoulder, blood gushing out, yet his aura underwent a cataclysmic transformation in that instant!
The Three-Tomoe Sharingan, trembling violently from the intensity of his emotions, saw its central pupils suddenly contract to the size of needlepoints. The three tomoe surrounding them were pulled and deformed by an invisible force, until finally... they snapped together and fused!
An unprecedented, cold, dark, yet suffocatingly powerful Dojutsu Power erupted from him like a tsunami!
The very air seemed to twist and wail in response!
Those eyes... were no longer in the simple tomoe form; they had morphed into a far more complex, eerie pattern, containing endless hatred and power—like a swirling downpour, or a blooming black mandala!
The Mangekyo Sharingan had awakened in the midst of this desperate plight!
"What?!" Tobirama Senju, who had been closing in as a ghostly shadow, was the first to bear the brunt of this pressure from a completely different dimension! For the first time, his perpetually calm face displayed incredulous shock! His speed faltered for a split second—a primal, instinctive reaction to an unknown danger!
That tiny hesitation was all it took!
With the Mangekyo activated, Madara's dynamic vision and reaction speed had surged by several levels! In his field of vision, Tobirama's movements, previously as fast as a phantom, seemed to slow down!
It was enough!
Madara didn't even look back; his newly awakened Mangekyo, brimming with terrifying power, cast a fierce glance behind him!
Dojutsu activated!
It was not some world-shattering technique, but the most fundamental and direct manifestation of the Mangekyo's power—an intense visual genjutsu interference!
Tobirama Senju felt the scene before him blur; Madara's figure seemed to distort for an instant, and the strike that should have been a guaranteed hit missed by a hair's breadth!
Squelch!
Blood sprayed!
Tobirama's kunai failed to pierce Madara's heart, instead burying itself deep into his flank!
At the same time, enduring the agony of his grievous wounds, Madara threw a backhand punch, fueled by violent Chakra and boiling rage, smashing it toward Tobirama's face!
Tobirama reacted with lightning speed. Failing his initial strike, he used the wound in Madara's side as a pivot to perform a backflip, narrowly evading the furious blow. Even so, the fierce wind of the punch grazed his cheek, leaving it stinging and severing a few strands of his white hair.
He landed lightly on the ground, clutching the cheek grazed by Madara's fist, his eyes darting with suspicion and shock as he looked at the Uchiha Madara who was slowly turning around—looking at those strange, ominous, and powerful eyes he had never seen before.
"Those eyes..." Tobirama's heart shook violently, a profound sense of crisis surging within him.
"Madara!" Izuna finally rushed over, shielding his brother. Seeing the wound in his brother's abdomen, the shocking poisoned kunai in his shoulder, and those alien eyes, he was filled with both anxiety and shock.
"I am fine." Madara's voice was hoarse and cold, laced with endless killing intent. His Mangekyo Sharingan remained locked onto Tobirama Senju; the gaze felt as if it came from the depths of the underworld, sending a chill down the spine of even the battle-hardened Tobirama.
From the main battlefield came a shrill cry from a Senju ninja: "Lord Patriarch!"
Senju Butsuma lay there, his chest caved in, blood spilling from his nose and mouth; he was already dead, yet even in death, he maintained the posture of pinning Uchiha Tajima down. As for Uchiha Tajima, although he had broken free and killed his attacker and Butsuma, a deep, bone-reaching wound had been carved into his back. Between the poison, his advanced age, and his previous injuries, his face was ashen and his life force was fading rapidly; he was only standing through sheer willpower.
The two patriarchs, who had fought their entire lives, were about to perish together in this battle in such a tragic manner!
"Father!" Madara and Izuna cried out in unison, moving to rush toward him.
"Stay back!" Tajima roared with his final ounce of strength. His gaze swept over Madara's newly awakened Mangekyo, a complex array of emotions flashing in his eyes—shock, relief, and finally, endless exhaustion and a hint of release.
"The future... of the Uchiha... is in your hands..." he finished with difficulty, his body slowly collapsing backward.
"Father!!!" Madara and Izuna let out a wail of inconsolable grief.
The Mangekyo in Madara's eyes spun wildly from the sheer agony, and that cold Dojutsu Power radiated uncontrollably, causing the temperature in the vicinity to drop.
Seeing Butsuma dead, Tobirama failing to finish the job, and Uchiha Madara seemingly awakening a terrifying new power, the Senju's morale plummeted.
"Retreat!" Tobirama Senju made a decisive call. He cast a cold glance at the dying Uchiha Tajima and those Mangekyo Sharingan that made his heart tremble, then gave the order without hesitation.
The Senju ninja immediately hoisted Butsuma's remains and retreated like a receding tide. Tobirama's Body Flicker Technique covered their withdrawal, and within a few blinks, he vanished into the dense forest, leaving behind a scene of carnage and the grief-stricken Uchiha.
No one pursued. The Uchiha had also paid a heavy price.
Patriarch Uchiha Tajima was mortally wounded, Uchiha Madara was poisoned and suffered a deep abdominal wound, and many elites had fallen in battle.
Izuna and several clansmen rushed to Tajima's side, attempting to provide aid, but it was beyond saving.
Uchiha Madara stood where he was, blood pouring from his abdominal wound, the numbness from the poison beginning to spread, yet he seemed not to notice. He merely stared fixedly at the direction of the Senju's retreat, at the spot where Tobirama Senju had disappeared.
In those newly awakened Mangekyo Sharingan, monstrous hatred and the immense grief of losing a loved one churned and rolled, eventually settling into a near-solid, destructive coldness.
The two titans of the old era had played their final movement with their lives.
Yet, the hatred and power of the new era had been thoroughly ignited this night, in a far more cruel and extreme fashion.
Uchiha Sou stood not far away, watching this tragic scene, watching the ominous and powerful new eyes in Madara's sockets, his heart filled with shock and a creeping chill.
Mangekyo Sharingan... are these the eyes that harbor even deeper power? Awakened at the cost of a loved one's death and the impact of extreme emotion...
He looked at the grief-stricken Izuna, looked at Madara who was as cold as a prison, and recalled that Tobirama Senju who came and went as freely as a ghost.
The cruelty of war, the price of power, the confusion of the future... all of this weighed heavily upon his heart.
He knew that from this night on, everything would be different. The future of the Uchiha would be tethered to that pair of Mangekyo Sharingan, which contained endless hatred.
And as for his own power of "Causality," which was as faint as a Fire Fly, how was he to conduct himself in this storm of hatred that swept away everything, and where could it possibly cast its light?
The night grew deeper, and the scent of blood was too thick to disperse. The elegy of the Uchiha rose slowly above the ruins.
