The terrifying power of the Perfect Susanoo and the near-infinite Chakra and Wood Style defenses of Hashirama Senju created a brief, suffocating stalemate on the battlefield.
Every swing of the blue god of war's blade cleaved through vast swathes of forest, yet more giant trees surged forth, driven by the boundless vitality of Hashirama, frantically growing to fill the gaps. The aftermath of their clash tore the earth apart time and again, completely altering the topography of the entire battlefield.
Uchiha Madara stood tall within the Susanoo, his Eternal Mangekyou burning with cold fury and a desire for destruction. He could feel that while Hashirama's defense appeared passive, it was incredibly resilient, especially bolstered by the will to protect his clan; crushing it in an instant was nearly impossible. Furthermore, maintaining the Perfect Susanoo was a massive drain, even for him. Though his old wounds no longer hindered him thanks to the Eternal Eye, the violent fluctuations in his spirit and the rapid consumption of his Dojutsu Power left him feeling a fatigue that reached deep into his soul.
Hashirama Senju was not having an easy time either. Maintaining the Deep Forest Emergence on such a massive, high-intensity, and self-regenerating scale consumed a colossal amount of his Chakra. More importantly, he clearly sensed the unmasked killing intent and agony radiating from Madara. He knew that if this attrition continued, the final result would likely be mutual destruction, potentially even claiming the lives of countless innocent clansmen. This was not the outcome he wished to see.
After a violent collision, both sides seemed to tacitly withdraw slightly, their fierce offensive slowing, though the atmosphere, stretched to its absolute limit, did not dissipate.
"Madara!" Hashirama's voice carried through the roar of the Wood Style, heavy with unprecedented weight and a trace of imperceptible exhaustion. "Stop this! If we continue, it will only lead to more people losing brothers and loved ones! Is this truly what you want?!"
Madara, within the Perfect Susanoo, let out a cold snort, his voice like ice: "Hashirama, even now, you still speak such naive words! Tobirama killed Izuna! This feud is irreconcilable! Only the blood of the Senju clan can serve as an offering!"
"Hatred only breeds more hatred!" Hashirama roared, his gaze firm. "Look around you, Madara! Look at the land beneath our feet! It has been soaked in blood for far too long! Aside from bringing pain and destruction, what has our clans' conflict ever achieved?!"
His words contained a strange power—not merely Chakra, but a intense, heartfelt conviction that briefly pierced through the defenses of Madara's heart, which had been filled to the brim with hatred.
Madara's gaze subconsciously swept across the scene below. He saw the Uchiha clansmen cheering, yet their eyes held fear and exhaustion; he saw the Senju clansmen defending with difficulty, their faces filled with despair and tenacity; he also saw the corpses of Uchiha and Senju ninjas intertwined upon the earth, no longer distinguishable from one another...
A scene suddenly flashed through his mind uncontrollably—it was many years ago, when he and Hashirama were still youths by the Naka River, setting aside their identities to talk freely about that unreachable dream of peace.
The longing of that moment formed a sharp contrast with the endless slaughter and hatred of the present.
A massive sense of emptiness and bewilderment suddenly washed over him. Revenge... and then what? Wipe out the Senju clan, and then what? Could Izuna return? Could the Uchiha achieve true peace?
The will driving the Susanoo wavered, just for a fraction of a second. The light of the towering blue god of war seemed to dim for an instant.
Hashirama keenly captured this flicker of hesitation. He immediately increased his Chakra output, but not to attack; instead, he made the endless sea of trees slowly recede, forming a massive circular defensive perimeter, signaling a stance of defense and ceasefire.
"Madara!" Hashirama's voice became more earnest, even carrying a hint of pleading. "I understand your pain! I understand the agony of losing a brother better than anyone! But precisely because of that, we cannot allow such a tragedy to cycle endlessly! Give us both, and our clansmen, a chance! A chance to end this endless cycle!"
The battlefield fell into an eerie silence. Only the rustling of slowly moving trees and the humming of flowing Chakra remained.
All survivors held their breath, watching the two figures in confrontation, waiting for Uchiha Madara's decision. His choice would determine whether the two clans would continue to slide into the abyss of destruction or... move toward an unknown, fragile possibility.
Uchiha Sou stood within the Uchiha ranks, his sense of "Internal Seeking" clearly capturing the intense struggle within Madara's heart. Extreme hatred and lingering ideals were wrestling madly, and the resulting "Dissonance" was even more intense and complex than the previous collision of pure power.
He also saw Hashirama's near-pure will to protect and achieve peace; although it carried the undertones of "Forced Seeking," its core was fundamentally different from Madara's will of destruction.
At this moment, the course of history hung by a thread.
Tsang's heart was equally turbulent. He knew the future outcome—peace talks, the founding of a village. But witnessing this process firsthand, feeling the weight of the decision that would shape history, still left him shaken. Individual will and emotion could truly influence the progression of the world so profoundly.
At the same time, he became more determined in his own path. Whether it was Madara's power of destruction or Hashirama's power of creation, they were essentially still gambling on the level of "power," and thus conflicted with the "logic" of the world. Perhaps they could achieve balance in the short term (like the future Konoha), but the underlying Dissonance remained, destined to erupt one day (like the later Uchiha massacre or the Obito incident).
What he wanted was not a peace built on the balance of power or temporary compromise. He craved a path that could truly eradicate that "Dissonance" and achieve "Harmony" from a more fundamental logic. This path of "Weaving Logic" might be long and arduous, but having witnessed today's battle of gods and the Covenant of Ceasefire, he was more convinced than ever that this was the correct direction.
Finally, after a silence that felt like centuries, the light of the Perfect Susanoo completely retracted, then slowly dissipated into the air like a phantom.
Uchiha Madara's figure reappeared before everyone. He stood with his back to the Uchiha clansmen, his expression unreadable. His voice was hoarse and cold, carrying endless fatigue and a hint of indescribable, complex emotion as it echoed across the silent battlefield:
"Hashirama... remember the words you spoke today."
"If your Senju clan dares to play any tricks again... I will surely bring about total destruction."
He did not say he agreed, nor did he say he forgave. Yet, these near-threatening words caused all the Senju clansmen to heave a sigh of relief, for they knew this meant the immediate threat of total annihilation had been lifted for now.
Hashirama let out a heavy breath, his tense body relaxing slightly as the massive wall of trees slowly sank into the ground.
"I swear it in the name of the Senju," Hashirama responded solemnly.
A decisive battle that should have ended in mutual death had, in this seemingly anticlimactic yet infinitely potential-filled way, temporarily drawn to a close.
The Uchiha forces began to slowly retreat, carrying the posture of victors, yet also bearing the bewilderment of those who had survived a catastrophe and the grief of losing friends and family.
Uchiha Sou followed the ranks, casting one last look at the scarred battlefield and the Senju brothers in the distance who were organizing medical aid for the wounded.
The Covenant of Ceasefire had been born, and the sapling of Konoha had buried a tiny, fragile seed within the soil of blood and hatred.
And he, Uchiha Sou, would carry the insights and resolve of this day, continuing to lie in wait, continuing along that path of "Weaving Logic," quietly weaving his own... cause of the future.
