History

The crew adopted the name Big Daddy Pirates after Daide Babaya, Zoro, Kuro, El Drago, Gollas, Jango, and the Cat Brothers began operating together. The name was chosen after Daide’s “Big Daddy” nickname; Kuro accepted it reluctantly, while El Drago declared he would rename the crew after defeating Daide. Daide established a monthly system for challenges over internal rankings and used Armament Haki to stop Zoro and El Drago from fighting over status. 20

Before formally naming the crew, its core members had already destroyed four Krieg Pirates patrol fleets in one week, killing more than a thousand pirates and provoking Don Krieg into mobilizing his full force. 14 The Big Daddy Pirates then declared war on the Krieg Pirates and assaulted their Debo Island headquarters despite being vastly outnumbered. 21 They defeated the crew, killed Krieg, claimed the Dreadnaught Sabre, and later accepted Gin and Pearl as subordinates. 23 24 25

The crew next invaded Cocoyasi Village waters and annihilated the Arlong Pirates. Nami joined as navigator during the Krieg campaign and guided the crew toward Arlong’s territory; afterward, the crew helped ensure that the remaining Fish-Men could not threaten Cocoyasi Village. 23 28 31 They subsequently destroyed Captain Nezumi’s Marine warship, an act that helped establish them as the East Blue’s strongest pirate crew. 33 34

At Clockwork Island, the Big Daddy Pirates defeated the Trump Pirates, took control of the island, and compelled its scientists to modify the Dreadnaught Sabre. Bear King, Pin Joker, and Pig Jack were forced into service, while Honey Queen became Daide’s captive. 35 36 37

After returning to Loguetown, the crew raided the Barto Family and clashed with Marines led by Smoker. They withdrew when Belo Betty empowered the town’s civilians against them. 39 40 The crew then headed for Reverse Mountain, crushed the 8th East Blue Marine Branch fleet, and broke the captive Cyclone Eric into joining them. 44 45 47
