Background / History
Died was a university student on Blue Star who lived comfortably with his parents, brothers, friends, and admirers. After falling asleep following a One Piece binge-watch, he awakened in Loguetown’s execution plaza wearing pajamas, unable to understand the local language. 1
To survive, he joined the Barto Family as an outer member and learned the world’s language and writing. Dezaya mockingly named him “Mute” Babaya because he could not speak at first; Died accepted the name because it echoed his old “Big Daddy” nickname. 1
He witnessed Fire Fist Ace clash with Smoker but arrived too late to join the Spade Pirates. Having lost his intended route to the Grand Line and the Dark-Dark Fruit, he committed himself to gaining power within Loguetown instead. 1
Died rose through the Barto Family through intelligence, planning, and ruthless conduct. He won the favor of Bartolomeo’s grandmother, the organization’s true decision-maker, helped expand its influence to more than 160 towns, and received rudimentary instruction in both forms of Haki. 2 He later intercepted the Barrier-Barrier Fruit intended for Bartolomeo, killed its loyal escort Yamashita Chuhide, and consumed the fruit himself. 2
After taking the Barto Family’s Haki training methods and valuables, Died defeated Bartolomeo and abandoned Loguetown to build his own force. Dezaya refused to leave with him after recognizing how far his ambition and cruelty had changed him. 5
Appearance
Died is a tall, muscular young man whose original appearance was compared to Chan Ho-nam. He is often shown training shirtless and carries his swords at his waist. 1 6
- Tall build and gang-leader-like presence. 1
- Muscular physique developed through constant training. 6
- Uses the cursed Sandai Kitetsu and Skillful Grade Yubashiri. 3 5
- Can manifest pale green, transparent barriers and a transparent giant form. 2 39
Personality
Before transmigrating, Died was described as handsome, loyal, and academically diligent. In the pirate world, his struggle to survive and his pursuit of strength made him increasingly calculating, ruthless, and willing to kill or coerce anyone who obstructed him. 1 2
He treats power as the foundation for redefining justice, piracy, and heroism. He aggressively recruits useful people—usually through threats, defeat, or displays of overwhelming force—and expects absolute obedience from his crew. 11 25 31 47
Died is also highly pragmatic. He trains continuously, studies other Devil Fruit users for ideas, retreats when Belo Betty’s power makes victory uncertain, and values specialized crew members such as navigators, cooks, and doctors. 2 20 40 41
His conduct is inconsistent rather than indiscriminately destructive: he ordered defeated Krieg Pirates to clean the harbor rather than execute them, left Cocoyasi’s stolen protection money for the villagers, and protected his crew through Reverse Mountain. 24 32 47
Abilities & Skills

Haki
Died possesses Armament and Observation Haki, which he considers essential for entering the New World. 2 26 46
- Uses Armament Haki to harden his fists and strike Devil Fruit users such as Smoker. 20 39
