Background / History

Ichigo was born with unusually high spiritual power and the ability to see souls. His inherited powers remained dormant because his Death God, Quincy, and Hollow aspects existed in a delicate balance. His Death God power came from Isshin, while his Quincy and Hollow powers originated through Masaki; while Ichigo was still unborn, Masaki's body transferred much of the Hollow power afflicting her into him. 244

After Masaki was attacked by a Hollow, Ichigo resolved to become strong enough to defeat the creature that hurt her. He accepted Shi Fu as his master despite being warned that the training would be grueling. Shi Fu trained him primarily through his Death God power, using it as the means to integrate rather than merely suppress his Quincy and Hollow aspects. 244
