Sanshao led Hanyu to a room inside the underground complex. When she opened the door, the faint light revealed masks covering all four walls... Of course, they weren't Uzumaki masks, just Anbu masks.

If someone had to wear a mask to do something, then that task was definitely secretive and best kept out of sight.

"Pick one," Sanshao said.

Hanyu glanced over the wall and reached out to take the mask closest to him, the one easiest to grab... He had no particular need for something beautiful or ugly. A mask was only a disguise, and the Anbu identity mattered far more than that disguise.

Sanshao took the mask and examined it. A comically oversized round eye was painted in the middle of the pure white mask, and it didn't even have eyeholes. She tried holding it over her face, and only then discovered that two single-sided crystals, the same color as the mask, were set where the eyeholes should be. The wearer could see through them, but an enemy couldn't see his eyes.

"Good choice." Sanshao set the mask down, then helped choose an Anbu codename for Hanyu on the profile she had prepared...

"Nametame."

That was what she wrote. The codename itself didn't really matter, but when Hanyu heard Sanshao give him that name, it sounded a lot like "ascending to heaven."

Well, "ascending to heaven" definitely didn't mean soaring freely through the skies. It just meant kicking the bucket... Of course, his codename was Nametame, not "ascending to heaven," so there was nothing unlucky about it.

He just had to keep telling himself that.

"Do you insist on carrying two swords now?" Sanshao asked Hanyu.

"Not necessarily. One of them is just a spare," Hanyu answered honestly. He couldn't even use one sword properly, let alone two.
