Chapter 22: A Confession at Sunset!
Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. The main assembly hall.
On the north side of the hall, facing south, the seat of honor was a large, carved rosewood chair. The back of the chair was inlaid with a massive piece of jade. The jade was a deep, verdant green, radiating a faint, gentle warmth—it was a piece of top-quality warm jade.
Sitting upright in the carved rosewood chair was a man whose face was as smooth as fine jade, with a straight nose and square jaw. He possessed a scholarly, gentle appearance, and his pristine white robes were spotless. He looked to be in his forties, his gaze soft, appearing for all the world like an ordinary man. His smooth black hair draped over his back, and everything about him seemed natural and unpretentious.
At this moment, he was looking down at a young man in white martial attire kneeling on the floor.
"Reporting to the Sect Master, the Young Miss has arrived at Shrek Academy and successfully passed the entrance examination," the young man said respectfully.
The middle-aged man nodded, a trace of helplessness appearing on his face. "It is good for that little ancestor to go out and gain some experience; otherwise, she would have turned the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect upside down. What is the situation at Shrek Academy?"
"Please forgive me, Sect Master. There is at least one Soul Saint and several Soul Emperor-level powerhouses within Shrek Academy. This subordinate is incompetent and could not infiltrate to investigate.
However, I have delivered the letter you entrusted to me to a teacher at Shrek Academy; it will certainly reach their Dean."
"And what of Chen Feng?" Ning Fengzhi asked immediately.
"I saw Young Master Chen Feng leave Shrek Academy with a young woman. It seems... he did not pass," the subordinate replied at once.
"With a young woman?" Ning Fengzhi looked at the subordinate, questioning.
"Yes. I do not know where that woman came from, but she has been following Young Master Chen Feng the entire time," the subordinate answered immediately.
"Hmph, Chen Feng, if you dare to let my daughter down, I will not forgive you," Ning Fengzhi snorted coldly.
Then, Ning Fengzhi sighed again and shook his head.
"Sigh, it is just that Xiao Feng's talent is truly... he is clearly Sword Uncle's descendant, so how could... sigh. If his talent were only a little better, would Rongrong still dislike him?"
"Forget it, as long as Rongrong has entered that academy, it is enough."
A smile appeared on Ning Fengzhi's face. "Flender, oh Flender, you truly are a man with ideals. I would like to see what you can turn my daughter into.
Perhaps only by leaving home will that little demoness learn to be sensible. Very well, you may withdraw."
"Yes, Sect Master." The young man retreated quickly.
A vigorous, resonant voice echoed through the hall, sounding as if it came from all directions, causing the hall to tremble. "Fengzhi, I heard that brat Chen Feng followed Rongrong to that godforsaken academy?"
Following the voice, an old man with white hair and a beard, yet a face as delicate as an infant's, walked out from the back hall and sat down brazenly in the chair next to Sect Master Ning Fengzhi.
Seeing the old man, Ning Fengzhi bowed. "Sword Uncle, my daughter has indeed gone to Shrek Academy with Chen Feng, but..."
Sword Douluo asked with dissatisfaction, "But what?"
Ning Fengzhi said decisively, "It is just that Xiao Feng... seems to have failed the Shrek Academy examination."
Sword Douluo snorted in anger. "What kind of rubbish academy is that? We don't care for it anyway. If Xiao Feng didn't pass, so be it; at worst, he can come back and I will teach him myself."
"And Rongrong, why did you let her go to that godforsaken academy? Are the two Title Douluo of our Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect not enough to teach her?"
Hearing this, Ning Fengzhi looked at Sword Douluo and spoke. "If I let you two elders teach her, I don't know how spoiled she would become. Letting her go out to gain experience and temper her temperament is for the best."
"Fengzhi, it is not that Sword Uncle is criticizing you, but do not place too much importance on that Shrek Academy. In my eyes, that trash academy doesn't have a single capable person."
Sword Douluo spoke indifferently. He was a Title Douluo, and the strongest person at Shrek Academy was merely a Soul Saint; he did not think much of them.
"Very well, Sword Uncle, stop worrying so much. Let the young people gain their own experience!" Ning Fengzhi laughed.
Sword Douluo said calmly, "Regardless, I must go to that Shrek Academy and take a look. Since Xiao Feng didn't pass that godforsaken academy, I will bring him back while I am at it."
"Sword Uncle." Ning Fengzhi seemed to want to say something more, but Sword Douluo turned and walked out, leaving the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect.
Suotuo City.
Chen Feng had already brought Kamisato Ayaka back into the city.
Chen Feng looked at Ayaka and spoke. "Ayaka, thank you."
Kamisato Ayaka was slightly stunned, then looked at Chen Feng and asked, "Traveler, what are you thanking me for?"
Chen Feng said calmly, "At that time, you knew full well that Zhao Wuji was very strong, yet you still stood out resolutely to fight alongside me. Before I met you, I never thought that anyone would risk their life for me. So, thank you."
In his real life, Chen Feng was a very introverted person, and he did not have much social interaction with girls; even the girls he knew were merely friends.
In the Douluo World, his original self was even more of a sycophant.
Therefore, naturally, no girl had ever fought side-by-side with him.
Hearing this, Ayaka's face flushed slightly.
She replied, "I am the Traveler's retainer by nature. Helping the Traveler is only right."
Chen Feng then took Ayaka's hand and said softly, "Regardless, I am very grateful to you. To thank you, let me buy you an ice cream!"
Ayaka nodded immediately. "Okay!"
Chen Feng held Ayaka's hand and began to run.
The two arrived at a small ice cream shop, and Chen Feng bought an ice cream and handed it to Kamisato Ayaka.
Kamisato Ayaka took the ice cream and took a gentle lick.
The light blue, creamy flavor rippled across her tongue, and Ayaka's eyes lit up instantly. She looked up at Chen Feng, who was watching her.
At this moment, Chen Feng said softly, "Wait a moment, Ayaka..."
"What's wrong?" Kamisato Ayaka asked immediately.
Chen Feng reached out his hand and promptly dabbed a bit of cream onto the tip of her nose; a sudden chill spread from the tip of her nose.
"Traveler, you actually ambushed me!"
"Hahaha!" Chen Feng burst into laughter and began running forward.
"Hmph, take this!"
Kamisato Ayaka immediately gave chase, the two of them frolicking one after the other, filling the streets of Suotuo City with bursts of laughter and joy.
Soon, evening arrived.
The sun dipped below the horizon, staining the sky in shades of orange and red, as if it were an artist's palette. The lingering glow of the sunset spilled over the streets of Suotuo City, outlining the silhouettes of the buildings with exquisite beauty.
A gentle breeze blew by, bringing a touch of coolness that felt comfortable and pleasant.
In the distance, layers of mountains were illuminated by the sunset's afterglow, shimmering with golden light like a magnificent painting. In the sky, a few faint clouds drifted, dyed into brilliant shades of pink and orange by the evening glow, resembling a flowing masterpiece.
Kamisato Ayaka suddenly stopped in her tracks, standing amidst the fading rays of the sunset.
"Ayaka, what's wrong?" Chen Feng turned around to look at her.
Kamisato Ayaka tilted her head slightly, parted her small lips, and whispered in a voice only she could hear: "Suki."
Although it was quiet, Chen Feng still heard it, and he froze in place.
Immediately after, Chen Feng also whispered, "Ayaka. I like you too!"
The two stood beneath the setting sun, their shadows gradually lengthening in the twilight.
