But Ah Yin had barely hugged Tang San before Xiao Qing ended the illusion.
"Little San, my—"
Before Xiao Qing could finish asking how Tang San felt, Tang San seized his shoulders and demanded, eyes wide:
"Xiao Qing, have you met my mother? Where did you see her? Can you tell me where she is?"
The barrage of questions left Xiao Qing bewildered. He had expected Tang San to remember the Tang Sect from his previous life and become trapped in an illusion of that past.
Instead, Tang San had learned of Ah Yin's existence. Had the awakening of his bloodline somehow allowed Ah Yin to sense him?
"What? I only met you when you came to Shrek. How could I have known your mother before I knew you?!"
Xiao Qing knocked Tang San's hands away, plainly baffled by the question.
Tang San never doubted that the Ah Yin in the illusion was real. The blood in his veins told him that woman was his mother.
"Then how could your illusion show me what my mother looks like? I have no memory of her face!"
As he spoke, Tang San's emotions began to slip out of control, swinging between joy and grief.
"Tang San, calm down! If you saw the mother you've never met in the illusion, doesn't that mean she might still be alive?"
Seeing Tang San's state, Xiao Qing slapped him and spoke sternly.
The sharp pain brought Tang San back to his senses. Xiao Qing was right. Perhaps he and his mother shared some connection he knew nothing about.
"Xiao Qing, I want to go back to Holy Soul Village! My instincts tell me I'll find the clues I need there!"
