Background / History

Xiao Qing was an orphan in Clear Spring Village. His future changed when he awakened the Prism Ball Martial Soul and Innate Soul Power Level Seven. Village chief Chang Feng initially treated him as a village hope, but intended to sell him to a powerful clan or use him to secure benefits from the Martial Soul Hall 1 2.

After discovering Chang Feng's plan, Xiao Qing deliberately created trouble at Chang Feng's home while waiting for a chance to escape. When Martial Soul Hall inspector Matthew arrived to recruit him, Xiao Qing refused the offer, triggered a soul-beast riot, and fled through a tunnel built by his father into the Star Dou Forest 2 3.

In the forest, the Prism Ball revealed its true nature: it could capture living soul beasts as companions, summon them in battle, and allow them to gain experience and increase the age of Xiao Qing's spirit rings. His first companion was a dying Wind Shadow Wolf, whom he named Xiao Feng 4 5.

Xiao Qing survived in the Star Dou Forest for years by hunting, setting traps, studying poisons, and developing coordinated tactics with his soul beasts. While living there, he became the target of a 100,000 Gold Soul Coin bounty tied to Clear Spring Village and Matthew's wanted notice 4 12 13.

After Flender rescued him from the Shadow Wolf Pack and warned him that bounty hunters were closing in, Xiao Qing accepted enrollment at Shrek Academy. There, he received training from Zhao Wuji, formed connections with the other students, and continued expanding his contracted soul-beast team 16 17 18.

Appearance

Xiao Qing is first described as a young child with a faint scar on his left cheek. Time spent surviving and fighting in the Star Dou Forest gives him a more severe, murderous bearing than his wanted portrait suggests 4 13.

  • Faint scar on his left cheek 4
  • Often carries a cloth bag containing supplies, herbs, tools, and materials 3 9
  • Uses a long blade or short blade in close combat 3 13
  • Usually remains calm and unreadable even under pressure 3 26

Personality

Xiao Qing is cautious, calculating, and strongly independent. Rather than submit to Chang Feng or the Martial Soul Hall, he chooses the far more dangerous path of escaping into the Star Dou Forest and building his own strength 2 3.

He is highly pragmatic in combat and survival. He studies enemy habits, prepares maps, makes traps, uses poison and terrain, and evaluates the value and risk of every opportunity. He does not rely solely on cultivation level, instead treating strategy, information, and coordinated companions as decisive advantages 10 13 14.

Despite his ruthlessness when necessary, Xiao Qing cares deeply for his contracted soul beasts. He treats Xiao Feng and A'Man as companions, tends their injuries, shares food with them, and prioritizes their safety during training 5 10 11 24.

Abilities & Skills

Prism Ball Martial Soul

The Prism Ball allows Xiao Qing to capture living soul beasts, store and summon them, and form spirit rings through their continued growth rather than conventional killing and absorption 4 54.

  • Contracts soul beasts as loyal companions.
  • Re-summons contracted beasts from the Prism Ball.
  • Grants experience points to contracted beasts through combat; opponents do not necessarily need to be killed 6.
  • Increases the age of Xiao Qing's spirit rings as his companions grow 4.
  • Provides Xiao Qing with soul-power feedback when contracted beasts increase their cultivation 10.
  • Allows communication and coordinated orders with contracted soul beasts 5 24.
  • Initially limits summoned beasts to a 1 km radius; this expands to 2 km after Xiao Qing reaches level 23 5 24.

Wind Shadow

A skill borrowed from Xiao Feng after the wolf becomes a century-level soul beast 7.

  • Creates a wind-attribute Phantom Shadow.
  • If the phantom is struck, it explodes and grants Xiao Qing a 50% speed increase for five minutes.
  • Can be used three times in short succession at Xiao Feng's then-current strength.
  • Lets Xiao Qing disguise his unusual fighting style as that of a more conventional spirit master 7.

Rock Armor

A defensive soul skill gained through A'Man 13.

  • Increases Xiao Qing's defense by 70%.
  • Reduces his speed by 30%.
  • Can be combined with Wind Shadow's speed boost to offset its movement penalty 13.
  • Withstands attacks that Zhu Zhuqing's Hell Stab cannot penetrate 37.

Lightning Flash

Xiao Qing's third soul skill, used for sudden movement and battlefield disruption 37.

  • Performs a straight-line dash within 100 meters.
  • Moves at near-teleportation speed.
  • Can rapidly close distance on enemy controllers or support soul masters 37.

Mental Interference

A fourth-ring skill gained from the Phantom Cat 56.

  • Creates illusions that confuse enemies about the true direction and distance of attacks.
  • Supports deception, misdirection, and ambush tactics 56.

Thousand-Body Phantom Domain

A domain-type ability obtained after Xiao Qing subdues the Phantom Cat and expands his spiritual space 57.

  • Manifests after the fourth contracted soul beast is incorporated into his spiritual space.
  • Builds upon his illusion-based fighting style 57.

Wind-Thunder Break

A self-created combined attack involving Xiao Feng and Thunder Feather 68 70.

  • Fuses wind- and lightning-attribute soul power for a rapid combined strike.
  • Used to kill Meng Li and Third Brother in the Soul Fighting Arena 68.
  • Its offensive power is described as comparable to a fifty-thousand-year offensive soul skill 70.

Tactical Command

Xiao Qing commands his companions as a coordinated combat unit rather than using them as independent summons 14 23.

  • Assigns specialized roles: Xiao Feng for offense and scouting; A'Man for defense; Thunder Feather for aerial mobility and lightning attacks 11 31.
  • Uses traps, ropes, poison darts, terrain, and ranged interference to control engagements 14.
  • Directs formations, retreats, and target priorities under pressure 24 51.
  • Can identify tracks through Xiao Feng and Thunder Feather's cross-confirmed senses 42.

Contracted Soul Beasts

  • Xiao Feng — Originally a Wind Shadow Wolf; Xiao Qing's first contracted beast. Evolves into a Storm Wolf King and later reaches the ten-thousand-year level 4 23 53.
    • Gains Wind Shadow, Wind Messenger, Vacuum Jade, and later Wind Controller 7 24 51 53.
  • A'Man — An Iron Armor Bear captured as Xiao Qing's second contracted beast; serves as the team's primary defensive fighter 11.
