Background

Qing Lin was born with both human and snake-person blood. In Shi Mo City, this heritage made her an object of prejudice; she concealed her snake scales beneath thick clothing while working through exhausting domestic labor for abusive employers. She hoped merely to complete three months of work and receive her promised wages. 30

Xiao Lei found her after she was dismissed under false accusations. He hired her as his maid for one hundred gold coins per month and took her from Shi Mo City, protecting her from the hostility surrounding her former life. 31 He introduced her to Xiao Yi Xian, who immediately treated Qing Lin protectively and encouraged her to seek help if Xiao Lei mistreated her. 32

Xiao Lei discovered that Qing Lin possessed the unawakened Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils. Although Qing Lin initially had little cultivation and saw herself chiefly as a maid, he awakened her constitution, supplied her with resources, and arranged for a magical beast companion. 32 37 38
