Sir Patrick was shouting himself hoarse in the noisy conference room over the issues of Germany's surrender and the peace agreement. Unfortunately, the "gentlemen" in the room seemed to have little interest in it. They were still arguing over the division of profits from various arms deals, postwar reconstruction, and the amount of German reparations.

It was not that they did not care about peace. They simply knew that the war was already nearing its end, so they might as well divide the cake first. As for the peace agreement, what did it matter if it came a month earlier or later? At most, a few tens of thousands more would die.

In the eyes of capital, human lives were merely a set of numbers.

Though Sir Patrick wore an expression of regret and helplessness, his eyes concealed deep disdain. In his view, the people before him perfectly embodied humanity's worst nature.

Selfish, cruel, greedy. Humanity truly was the cancer of the world. Wiping them all out would be for the best.

The longer these people argued without end, the less likely the war was to end. Once the German side developed its new poison gas, the expressions on these people's faces would probably become very interesting.

Sir Patrick enjoyed the feeling of looking down from on high, gazing upon these scheming humans with the bearing of a god. But he had not enjoyed it for long before the conference room door opened and a man with a cane walked in.

The man moved slowly and kept a very low profile, as though he did not want to draw anyone's attention. Yet when he reached the spot opposite Sir Patrick, he took off his hat and revealed his face.

Sir Patrick's expression changed the instant he casually glanced at him.
