In the drizzle, Li Wei returned to 161 Ziguang Street.

After the rain began, there were few pedestrians around. Only expensive luxury cars came and went, ferrying the powerful figures who controlled the city to and from their homes.

From an alley across from No. 161, he watched a black sedan slowly drive into the small estate. In addition to the Police Department guards stationed every hundred meters, more than a dozen suited security guards watched over the estate's several entrances.

Li Wei circled the small estate, surveying it, then chose a spot.

He braced one hand against the iron fence and vaulted over it. Then he found a guard posted in a corner by the servants' entrance, covered his mouth and nose, and drove his dagger hard into the man's neck!

After taking care of the guard, Li Wei changed into his clothes.

He quickly fixed his hair and brushed the specks of blood off his clothes. Then he looked toward the lit-up estate, hid the dagger in his sleeve, and walked inside.

Councilor Wang was entertaining a business partner.

The general manager of Green Bamboo Company, a middle-aged man named Chen Xueming.

He was lean, wore gold-rimmed glasses, and had a pencil mustache. He looked like a shrewd businessman.

But in front of Councilor Wang, he never showed that side of himself.

A black briefcase, presented as a gift for the quarter, sat on the coffee table.

Councilor Wang didn't touch it. His butler opened it for him.

It wasn't filled with money, but with gold bars that gleamed alluringly in the light!

At the current exchange rate between currency and gold, the box was worth well over three million. By Sun City's purchasing power, it was an impressive fortune.

But Councilor Wang merely glanced down at it before taking another drag on his cigarette.

He exhaled a cloud of smoke.

"Why is there even less this time?"

Chen Xueming shook his head with a bitter expression.

"There's no helping it. Yuguang has been in an uproar lately, and Police Department officers have flooded every district. The laborers are all on edge. Business is hard."

Councilor Wang glanced at him. He understood the real meaning behind his words, of course.

"Don't worry. The Council has been putting pressure on Tian nonstop. If he still can't produce results in the next couple of days, he'll soon lose that hat on his head."

"That bio-human is simply too despicable. It's bad enough that he's hurt the company's business, but if he affects your preparations to run for the upper house, sir, he'll deserve to die a thousand deaths!" Chen Xueming said bitterly.

Councilor Wang didn't seem to care. He leaned back against the sofa and casually tapped ash from his cigarette.

"He's done something good, if you ask me. There are only three of us competing for that seat, and Bishop Twilight is taking the same people-friendly approach as I am. Now that he's been killed, I have one fewer rival, which undoubtedly improves my chances."

"Yes, yes. He certainly made a mess of things, but it turned out well for us. What are you planning to give him as a reward, sir?" Chen Xueming smiled.

"That bio-human is quite something. He's become a scientist, and even caught the attention of the bigwigs at Central. Here's what I'll do: when those gentlemen arrive in Sun City, I'll put in a good word for him. Before Central takes him away, I'll let him spend a few days at your club. Maybe he can even leave Sun City with a child on the way."

Laughter rang through the reception room. The mood was light and cheerful.

But just then, the door to this exceptionally private reception room—one of the most secluded in the entire estate, where no one but the councilor's closest confidants was allowed—was gently pushed open from the outside!

Councilor Wang frowned. He tossed his cigarette into the ashtray and was about to signal the butler behind him to find out which servant had broken the rules when—

A tall, slender figure walked in slowly, carrying a round, ball-shaped object in one hand.

Scarlet drops of blood fell onto the immaculate carpet. Muddy soles trampled the marble tiles, so clean they reflected the faces above them.

Covered in blood, Li Wei walked into the silent reception room, carrying a woman's severed head.

"May I ask which of you is Councilor Wang?"

He was quite polite, smiling as he surveyed the four people in the room before asking softly.

The first to react were the bodyguard behind Chen Xueming and Councilor Wang's personal butler!

At the same time, both men reached into their jackets, trying to draw the pistols hidden inside.

But before they could even get their hands all the way in, Li Wei raised the hand that was dripping blood!

The next instant, an almost suffocating force of gravity engulfed the room!

"Thump!"

The two men who had tried to reach for their guns were slammed to the floor, their bodies pinned tightly against it, unable to move an inch!

"Fine. I'll ask one more time. Which one of you is Councilor Wang?"

He raised his voice, looking down at the two men still seated on the sofa.

Chen Xueming felt death looming over him. His palms wouldn't stop sweating, and his face had gone visibly pale. His eyes instinctively turned to the councilor he'd just been praising and flattering.

Councilor Wang was even more nervous than he was!

He recognized the woman's head in Li Wei's hand.

It belonged to his domineering wife!

The woman he had cursed behind her back countless times, wishing she would hurry up and die!

And now she really was dead, staring right at him with wide-open eyes full of terror, despair, and lifelessness!

He also saw the security guard's body outside the door, lying in a pool of blood where he should have been standing watch. Councilor Wang's legs trembled uncontrollably, but he still tried to appear calm as he lit another cigarette.

"An escaped scientist wanted by the Disciplinary Bureau? Tell me, how much funding do you want for your research?"

His words confirmed Li Wei's target at last. Hearing them, Li Wei's smile grew even brighter.

"Sorry, I don't want money."

Councilor Wang's heartbeat seemed to stop for half a beat, and his hand began to shake.

"Th-then what do you want?"

"A friend asked me to come and check on his niece. If she's doing well, I'm to leave everything alone. If she isn't, I'm to bring her away."

Hearing the clear-cut request, Councilor Wang finally relaxed a little. He was just about to ask Li Wei who he was looking for when—

"But his niece is dead." Li Wei stared into Councilor Wang's eyes. "A girl named Su Ya. Do you know her, Councilor?"
