"Are you from Shrek Academy?"
Xuan Zi looked indifferently at the young men, with none of his drunken appearance remaining.
"S-So what if we are? My father is a marquis. What can you do to us?"
Just as Huo Yuhao had not recognized Mu En when he was a freshman, this second-year playboy before him did not recognize Xuan Zi either.
"Hmph, a marquis. What an impressive title."
Xuan Zi spoke with a smile that did not reach his eyes.
He no longer had his usual casual air. An indescribable majesty emanated from him, and at this moment, he finally looked like Shrek's second-strongest powerhouse.
"Yan Shaozhe, get your ass over here!"
Xuan Zi's voice rang throughout all of Shrek City. Within Sea God Pavilion, Mu En helplessly shook his head. "That fellow Xuan Zi... Fine. This sort of atmosphere should not exist in the academy. Let him handle it."
The instant Xuan Zi's words fell, a golden figure shot into the sky from within the academy and flew in their direction.
Yan Shaozhe arrived before Xuan Zi at top speed. "Elder Xuan."
Though those playboys did not know Xuan Zi, they recognized Yan Shaozhe, the dean. Seeing the dean treat this old man with such respect, they immediately realized what a disaster they had brought upon themselves.
So what if their father was a marquis? Even the ruler of an empire had to show Shrek Academy's dean some respect, let alone someone whom even Shrek Academy's dean respected.
Xuan Zi said nothing and merely looked silently at the playboys.
Yan Shaozhe immediately understood. Calmly, he said to them, "You are expelled."
Those words struck like a thunderbolt, leaving their minds buzzing.
"Dean, we... we know we were wrong... Please don't expel us!" They hurriedly dropped to their knees and begged for mercy.
Xuan Zi looked at Lin Ming, who was still pretending to be injured, and knocked him on the head. "How about it, brat? Satisfied now? Don't keep ordering this old man around over such trivial matters in the future!"
Before Lin Ming could answer, Xuan Zi vanished from where he stood.
Seeing that he had left, Lin Ming could not be bothered to keep pretending. He lowered the hand clutching his arm and leisurely looked at the playboys.
They were miserable, especially the lackeys who had followed the lead youth surnamed Song. They had clearly done nothing, yet they had been expelled from Shrek Academy just like that.
The leading youth's face was covered in cold sweat. If his marquis father learned that he had been expelled from the academy like this, the consequences were unimaginable.
Yan Shaozhe had no intention of listening to their explanations. After Xuan Zi left, he too flicked his sleeves and departed.
Lin Ming looked down at them with all the swagger of a little tyrant. "I just remembered—my backing is stronger than you can possibly imagine. You think a marquis is impressive? He's only fit to polish my shoes! Why aren't you getting lost yet?"
The playboys were miserable. They could not beat him, and they could not compete with his backing, so they could only flee in disgrace.
Lin Ming returned to looking like the friendly kid next door and walked over to the girl's stall. "Senior sister, can you make lemon water for the two of us now?"
The girl did not show any fear because of their backing. Instead, she looked completely relaxed.
"Thank you, little brothers. Consider these two cups of lemon water a treat from your senior sister."
Lin Ming smiled and did not refuse.
That night, by Sea God Lake.
Lin Ming could not sleep late at night and could not be bothered to meditate, so he ran to Sea God Lake to fish.
"How was it, brat? Did you vent your anger properly today?"
At some point, Xuan Zi had appeared beside Lin Ming.
"Not bad, old man. You were seriously badass today!" Lin Ming was quite satisfied with how the matter had been handled.
"By the way, this old man has brought the things you asked me to get last time."
With a wave of his hand, two enormous legs dropped beside Lin Ming.
"Thousand-year soul beast legs. One cow and one sheep."
Lin Ming set down his fishing rod and examined the beef and mutton legs. "Not bad, not bad. They're both quite fresh!"
As a transmigrator, Lin Ming naturally did not care where Xuan Zi had gotten those legs. Even if Xuan Zi had slaughtered soul beasts indiscriminately, probably no one could do anything about it.
"Since the ingredients are ready, and the moon is so beautiful tonight, let's make something delicious right here!"
Lin Ming dusted off his clothes, stood up, and began preparing the tools he needed.
"Old man, help me set up an iron rack and burn some charcoal underneath. I'll be right back!"
Lin Ming ran off like the wind, leaving Xuan Zi behind to do the labor.
"Sister Lexuan!"
Lin Ming first arrived at Zhang Lexuan's residence. She was meditating and cultivating at the time.
Hearing someone call her name, Zhang Lexuan opened the door and saw Lin Ming.
"What is it, Little Ming? Why are you looking for me so late?"
Because of her exceptional talent, Zhang Lexuan had already entered the Inner Court ahead of schedule and lived not far from Lin Ming's residence.
"Come with me!"
Lin Ming grabbed Zhang Lexuan's hand and ran in another direction.
"Lao Bei, open up!"
Lin Ming pounded hard on Beibei's door.
A minute later, Beibei opened the door while rubbing his sleepy eyes. He was still wearing pajamas with cartoon patterns.
"What is it, Lin Ming? Why are you knocking at my door this late? I want to sleep!"
"No time to explain. Come with me!"
Lin Ming grabbed Beibei with his other hand and pulled him outside.
When they arrived at the lakeside where they had been earlier, Xuan Zi had already set up the iron rack, and the charcoal beneath it was burning red-hot.
He had even caught several fish from Sea God Lake and placed them beside the beef and mutton legs.
"Hurry up, brat! We're waiting for you!"
Once Lin Ming saw that everyone was more or less there, he took a small knife and a large bundle of steel skewers he had prepared beforehand from his storage Soul Tool and got to work.
That was right. What Lin Ming was making this time was a classic delicacy from his hometown in his previous life: grilled skewers!
He had been craving these for a long time. Whenever he had not known what to eat for a late-night snack in his previous life, ordering grilled skewers had never been a wrong choice.
He cut a large piece of meat from each of the beef and mutton legs, sliced them into small chunks, and threaded them onto the prepared steel skewers.
Cumin, chili powder, oil, and everything else had all been prepared.
Now it was time for Lin Ming to show off.
Ten minutes later, a rich aroma drifted across all of Sea God Island.
Beibei stared blankly from the side, drool streaming uncontrollably from his mouth.
"Lin Ming, what is this? It smells way too good!"
Xuan Zi kept drinking from the wine gourd in his hand, swallowing down his drool along with the wine.
Even Zhang Lexuan, who was usually so composed, was staring fixedly with her beautiful eyes at the skewers being turned over and over on the grill.
"Don't rush, everyone. They'll be ready soon!"
Among grilled skewers, the classics were naturally beef skewers and mutton skewers. That was also why Lin Ming had asked Xuan Zi to prepare those two kinds of meat.
A few minutes later, Lin Ming grabbed a large handful of meat skewers in each hand and lifted them from the grill.
"Hahaha, the grilled skewers are here!"
Xuan Zi had already set up a small table nearby, waiting for the skewers to finish grilling.
"Remember to grill those fish this old man caught too!"
Ever since he had eaten the fish Lin Ming grilled last time, Xuan Zi had never been able to forget that flavor.
