Background / History
Chen Pi teaches Lu Yuan the Five Animals Fist at Song Academy after describing it as a true Yellow Grade technique. Lu Yuan initially performs its movements clumsily, but the Ancient Scroll in his mind records the technique and causes his proficiency gains to increase with continued practice. 2
The fist becomes Lu Yuan’s foundational cultivation method. Its cultivation nourishes qi and blood, which can later be tempered to trigger Bright Energy; Chen Pi warns that failed body tempering disperses accumulated qi and blood and may damage a practitioner’s foundation after repeated failures. 2 9
Lu Yuan relies on the completed technique to nourish enough qi and blood for successive breakthroughs through the Bright Energy, Hidden Energy, and Transformation stages. Although it remains effective for tempering qi and blood at Perfection, it cannot by itself carry him beyond the Transformation Realm without breaking its limit or obtaining a higher-level internal cultivation method. 11 25 30 34
After Lu Yuan obtains an incomplete Vajra Technique manual, the Ancient Scroll combines its principles with the Five Animals Fist. The resulting limit break transforms the technique into the Five Elements Vajra Body – Skin Refining Chapter. 42 43
Abilities & Skills
Internal Cultivation
The Five Animals Fist is a Gong: an internal cultivation art that strengthens the practitioner, nourishes and tempers qi and blood, and helps break physical limits. 17
- Its five stances combine physical posture with breathing methods. 2
- Continued practice increases qi and blood, strength, speed, reactions, coordination, and sensory acuity. 4 10
- At Mastery, Lu Yuan’s sharpened hearing allows him to distinguish an insect’s location by sound, while his vision covers everything within ten paces. 10
- Robust qi and blood support both stronger techniques and longer combat endurance. 17
Physical Reinforcement
Though primarily an internal cultivation art rather than a dedicated killing technique, the fist substantially improves the practitioner’s direct combat ability. 9 17
- At Novice level, it allows Lu Yuan to handle ordinary people with ease. 4
- At Minor Accomplishment, Lu Yuan believes he could defeat Black Tiger Gang thugs without relying on lime powder. 9
- At Great Success, Lu Yuan’s blood-qi-enhanced strike shatters a bowl-sized stone and leaves cracks in the ground. 14
- It lacks the specialized lethality of offensive techniques; its effectiveness in combat depends largely on the practitioner’s physical strength and speed. 9
Limit Break and Evolution
At Perfection, the Five Animals Fist reaches a physical ceiling reflected as “Unbroken Limit” or “Limit Not Broken” progress on the Ancient Scroll. 23 42
- The limit represents the body’s inability to contain endlessly increasing qi and blood without advancing to a higher realm. 42
- The Golden Little Man’s simultaneous practice of the fist and Vajra Technique raises the limit-break progress, despite repeatedly exploding and reforming. 42
- The completed limit break produces the Five Elements Vajra Body, beginning with its Skin Refining Chapter. 43
Limitations
- Practice places severe demands on stamina; overtraining can cause severe physical depletion or damage one’s foundation. 8 9
- Greater attainment generates more qi and blood but also requires greater nutritional recovery. 7 11
- Ordinary meat is insufficient to sustain frequent high-level training; medicinal soups, pills, and other resources become necessary. 9 11 29
- Before its limit break, the Yellow Grade technique can support cultivation only as far as the Transformation Realm. 34
Relationships
- Lu Yuan — Primary documented practitioner; his Ancient Scroll tracks the technique’s proficiency and ultimately transforms it through a limit break. 2 23 43
- Chen Pi — First instructor; teaches Lu Yuan the stances, breathing methods, and the relationship between the technique, qi and blood, and Bright Energy. 2
- Song Academy — The martial school where Lu Yuan first learns and repeatedly practices the Five Animals Fist. 2 4
- Vajra Technique — Its incomplete manual provides the additional principles that allow the Five Animals Fist to break its limit and evolve. 42 43
