"If you were truly as innocent as you claim..."
Ichinose Honami gritted her teeth. "Why would the Black Sphere Space target you? Why even label you an 'Enemy of Humanity'?"
"You have to understand, everything we've faced before this has been a demon, a man-eating Parasite!"
"Well, about that..."
Ayanokoji Kiyotaka spoke up at the perfect moment. "I saw news about it on Sudo Ken's phone earlier."
"To put it simply, it's a self-centered creature."
"It believes it is unique, standing above humanity. That kind of naive arrogance sometimes causes even greater destruction, yet it remains completely oblivious to it."
Su Wei praised him silently.
That was exactly right.
In the original story, this thing's foster mother was a saintly lawyer who valued Charlie's life more than any human's, fighting tooth and nail to secure special privileges for it.
Add in the idiotic female lead, extreme animal rights activists, and a crowd of bystanders whose intelligence had been eroded by the will of the heavens...
It resulted in Charlie being able to spout insane rhetoric while taking down counter-terrorism units; even with clear aggressive tendencies, it never faced a single punishment.
It even felt that it deserved to live, despite having killed its own foster parents.
Isn't that just a pure beast?
Seemingly sensing the subtle shift in the atmosphere, or perhaps recalling its own past "privileges," Charlie, bound on the ground, suddenly looked up.
"Do you... want to kill me?"
"Although I am not human, my guardian is a lawyer! I remember that human law states killing is a crime!"
"As a sentient being, even if I attacked you, it was out of self-defense or instinct! As individuals, you have no right to execute me!"
"Pfft..."
Sakayanagi Arisu, who had just arrived, nearly burst out laughing upon hearing this.
"Truly... it just had to bring up the one thing it shouldn't have."
Ichinose Honami, meanwhile, was successfully amused to the point of anger.
"You enjoy the conveniences of a human identity, yet you comfortably look down upon human life; you want to be protected by human laws, yet you don't want to follow our rules?"
She took one last look at Charlie and said earnestly:
"I'm sorry, Mr. Charlie."
"We humans evolved a modern society and legal system, and we seek to protect the environment and maintain ecological diversity, all to ultimately ensure the safety of our own kind."
"It wasn't meant for freaks like you to enjoy!"
Having said that, she stopped wasting words.
She handed the X-GUN directly to Shiina Hiyori.
"I have nothing more to say. Please, do it quickly, Shiina-san."
Su Wei looked at Shiina Hiyori.
Am I the only one who thinks this is sacred?
This is the reaction a normal person should have, damn it!
Shiina Hiyori, failing to grasp Su Wei's thoughts, sighed.
Although she disliked conflict, she could still distinguish right from wrong.
Aiming the muzzle at Charlie's still-bewildered face, she did not hesitate.
One.
Two.
Three.
"Bang!"
[Target eliminated]
[Mission complete]
Chapter 44: Exam Settlement
Black Sphere Space.
Sudo Ken touched his neck; the skin there was smooth and warm, without a single wound.
Yet, the memory of that sudden, sharp pain was still clear enough to make his entire body tremble.
His legs went weak, and he nearly collapsed to the ground.
"I was... beheaded by a Parasite?"
The fear of death was not the darkness of that single moment, but the overwhelming, tidal wave of lingering terror that washed over him in the aftermath.
His brain was still malfunctioning as several beams of blue light flickered in succession around him.
The first to appear was Kanzaki Ryuji.
He lacked his usual composure, his face deathly pale; his eyes were as vacant as his own, clearly still immersed in the phantom pain.
Next came Ryuen Kakeru.
Although he looked equally ghastly, he was clearly recovering much faster than Kanzaki.
"Damn it... only one last chance left. Tch!"
Hearing this complaint, Sudo Ken, who was still gripped by fear, froze for a moment before a surge of resentment welled up in his heart.
"What do you mean? Are you saying you have more than just the one life the Gantz gave us?"
"How is that fair? We all came here together, so why do you get special privileges!"
Veins bulged on Ryuen Kakeru's forehead.
If he weren't uncertain about whether fighting inside the Black Sphere Room would trigger some penalty mechanism, he would have truly liked to twist this single-celled organism's head off and kick it like a ball.
"Are you a fucking idiot?"
Ryuen Kakeru cursed mercilessly: "The extra life I have was exchanged by binding myself to this shitty sphere. Regardless of whether I'm elected by the class, I get forcibly dragged in here every exam to face these monsters!"
"If you want this measly perk so badly, I'd give it to you right now if we could swap positions!"
"If you don't know anything, shut your mouth and stop yapping like a stray dog."
"...You have to face those monsters every time?"
Forget it, then.
Sudo Ken shuddered.
At this moment, as the lights continued to flash, Su Wei, Ichinose Honami, Sakayanagi Arisu, and the others returned to the Black Sphere Space one after another.
Seeing Su Wei completely unscathed, Sudo Ken hurried over, attempting to repeat Ryuen Kakeru's words to verify them.
Before Su Wei could speak.
"Don't be in such a rush," Ichinose interrupted with a cold face, "There are more important things right now."
Seeing this, Su Wei spread his hands toward Sudo:
"You saw it yourself, let's talk about it later."
Ignoring the atmosphere around her, Ichinose walked straight up to the Black Sphere, her voice hoarse:
"GANTZ, begin the tally."
"Hum—"
Light flowed across the surface of the Black Sphere as text emerged:
[As you wish.]
[A total of three friendly units intruded during this trial. Two were eliminated, one survived.]
[Therefore, all members receive +1 point, and -2 points are deducted.]
Immediately following, a detailed leaderboard unfolded—
[1. Ichinose Honami: 10 points (Cumulative 22 points)]
[2. Su Wei: 8 points (Cumulative 12)]
[3. Shiina Hiyori/Sakayanagi Arisu: 2 points (Shiina 0 points/Sakayanagi cumulative 6 points)]
[4. Kamuro Masumi, Katsuragi Kohei, Kanzaki Ryuji, Ryuen Kakeru, Sudo Ken: -1 point (Cumulative: Katsuragi 1 point, others -1 point)]
[Class Rankings and Bonus Points]
[Class A: 1035, remains unchanged.]
[Class B: 832.4 (732.4 + 10*1000%), each student in the class receives a bonus of 10,000 private points.]
[Class C: 510 (505 + 1*500%), each student in the class receives a bonus of 500 private points.]
[Class D: 210 (150 + 8*750%), each student in the class receives a bonus of 6,000 private points.]
[Note: Due to this being the first instance of a 'Qualified One' casualty, the point deduction was not included in this tally. It will be included as normal from now on, please be aware.]
Looking at the note, Sudo Ken, still suffering from psychological trauma, blurted out subconsciously:
"Phew... it's actually not that bad, not deducting more points from us. By the way..."
He scratched his head and looked around: "Isn't someone missing? That girl from Class B who was with Ichinose?"
As soon as these words were spoken, the temperature plummeted to freezing.
Sakayanagi Arisu widened her eyes slightly, unable to comprehend.
How did an idiot of this caliber... even pass the entrance exam? Was he truly worth cultivating?
Shiina Hiyori was also at a loss for words, not knowing what to say.
After a moment of thought, she walked silently to the side of Ichinose Honami, who was reeling and nearly lost her footing, and reached out to gently stroke the girl's slightly heaving back.
Ichinose Honami bit her lip, ultimately choosing not to vent her negative emotions.
Sudo Ken had died too early and truly did not know what happened afterward, so she could understand.
But her magnanimity did not affect the others.
"Bang!"
Sudo Ken, who had been wearing a look of utter bewilderment, staggered back several steps, clutching his cheek as he stared at the person before him in shock.
Kanzaki Ryuji retracted his fist, gritting his teeth as he spoke:
"Shiranami is missing."
"Are you satisfied now?!"
"..."
Missing—did that mean she was dead?
Sudo Ken opened his mouth.
This time, he finally read the room and remained silent.
Su Wei spoke up at the right moment.
"That's enough."
"The dead are gone, and the living must carry on."
He walked over to the Black Sphere:
"It seems I can redeem equipment again. Ichinose, what are your thoughts?"
